Random Commanders Thoughts

But it's all connected. I understand the want for a defensive superstar, but right now there is a very distinct window thats opened up with Jayden on rookie deal. The best way to maximize that is first round talent that can walk in a supplement day 1. We're entering a situation with our O-line that doesn't exactly scream stability long term. Biadasz is entering his 2nd year of a 3 year deal. Cosmi is coming off an injury, and Tunsil is going to want new money. There may be a lot of flux along that O-Line over the next 3 years to protect Daniels. Bobby Wagner, Zach Ertz, Austin Ekeler, Terry McLaurin... All right now they're not exactly locked in beyond 2025. Late 1st round talent could be significant to replacing them long term....

Don't get me wrong, I'd love to have Parsons on the roster, but 3 years of 1st round picks? that's too rich for my blood.
No sane GM makes that deal. It's too risky. Parsons can go down with an injury during his first camp with the team and then you are screwed for years and the front office over time likely can't bring in the talent to compete and they are fired.

The NFL more than any other sport is a team game and it's the spread of talent over the 53 man roster that is the key, not the concentration of resources in one or two positions, outside of quarterback.

With Parsons on defense and finishing 12-5 Dallas failed to win a playoff game in 2022 or 2023.

In the latter contest against the Packers they ran right over the Dallas defense and Parsons lack of size at the line was used against him on the ground.

The one difference maker on defense (from recent years) I might have considered trading a lot to acquire in his prime was Aaron Donald.

Donald could snuff out an opposition's game plan by himself and he could take on the double team inside on critical downs and still win the matchup.

He carried the Rams defense to the Super Bowl in 2021 and had 2 sacks and the game ending play on Joe Burrow in the fourth quarter.

We're forgetting about arguably the greatest 'Commander' in history.....

Jon Snow, Lord Commander of the Nights Watch, the center of one of the wildest battle scenes i've ever witnessed.

I spent the week in St. Maarten, my happy place.

I spent a lot of the week waring Washington Football Team t-shirts and an old Redskins hat.

However, I have one black Commanders polo, which I wore to dinner one night.

During that time, in freaking St. Maarten for God's sake, I got 4 comments on my Commander's shirt. Three were from other Commanders fans (two specifically commented they loved JD5, one just said "it's been a long time").

The other comment, which was made while I was at dinner, was somebody commented on the shirt, and we had this conversation:

Him: Hey, you a Commanders fan?
Me: (inside voice, um, yeah, why else would I be wearing a Commander's Polo?) Outside voice: Yes!
Him: I'm a Giants fan.
Me: (Inside voice, yeah, that first question makes sense now.) Outside voice: Well, that's unfortunate. (with a smile. Gentle ribbing between division rivals and all.)
Me: Are you from New York/New Jersey?
Him: No, New England.
Me: (Note, this kid was probably ~18, so grew up during the Brady years) How the hell did you become a Giants fan living through Brady/Belichick in New England?
Him: I really liked OBJ.
Me: Ok, I guess that makes sense. (Said only to be polite. That makes no sense.)

I think that's when I just walked away back to my table.

I don’t see how Chris Moore or Jacoby Jones make the team based on what they have showed.

These guys are journeymen with limited upside.

If there are injuries during the year we can get equal or better players off practice squads or street free agents IMO.

I am in St. Maarten for the week, and was at the airport and I saw a guy wearing #17 jersey. And it was a Redskins’s jersey and I thought, wow, that’s got to be a rookie Terry McLaurin jersey. That’s rare to see out in the wild.

And the turned around. And it was a Jason Campbell #17 jersey

I said something to my wife like “that’s really an odd choice to wear on a flight.”

She commented that jerseys are expensive and I said something like, “if you make a bad life choice by buying a JC17 jersey in 2009, you don’t have to remind the world about it in 2025.”

The most random jersey I've ever seen was during the bobby three sticks era... a Trung Canidate jersey... talk about buyers regret!

I saw somebody wearing a Trung Candidate jersey also! Also during the early 2010’s. It was remarkable.

I have a Pot Roast Jersey in my closet. Actually says pot roast. I don’t even remember the players name. But I loved the nickname.

Anyone remember Jesse Lumsden as a training camp crush ~20 years ago? The CFL RB?

I remember a bunch of liquored up fans who thought he was gonna smash LOL... training camp cut I believe!

That's pretty cool, did you approach that fan? That's the cool thing about being a Red Sox fan. We are everywhere but rare enough that we almost always acknowledge each other, or I will simply say to a guy in a hat "let's go Red Sox" and he knows what that means and gives me a nod or whatever.

I usually can remember players from back then as I was much more into the team then. But this one does not ring a bell.

I was walking in the park a few weeks ago, wearing one of my Redskins hats (I don't own any Commanders gear) and two young men jogged past me and started singing "Hail to the Redskins". I gave them a wave as acknowledgement and they shouted "Go Redskins" as they ran off. They didn't look old enough to be fans but it was really cool.

I did not. Mostly because I couldn't think of anything which wouldn't sound offensive given he was wearing a Jason Campbell jersey. (I wasn't a Campbell hater like some, but it's a very, very odd choice to wear. I DID, however check to make sure it wasn't Jason Campbell himself. Because that might be the only reason to wear a Jason Campbell jersey in 2025.

He threw the absolute worst deep ball. No air under it to give the receivers the ability to adjust and constantly landing 6 yards out of bounds.

I don't disagree, but he was still better than Colt Brennan (RIP), and this was during the time of Cult of Colt.
