I honestly think, after the run on OTs last night, we will see some guys hit the street in cost-cutting measures between now and training camp.

That is sort of how we got Leno and I'd take a guy the quality of Charles (when he got here) for the next year or two while we work on finding a quality, longterm answer at the position.

The only comment I’ll make about trading up, is you need someone who is willing to trade down. My impression from last night is that these teams that took tackles, they wanted those guys. So they weren’t going to trade down. Most everyone else seemed content to stick and pick. The Vikings moving from 23 to 17 cost them a good bit. So those teams had guys they liked and were demanding a high cost to get their pick.

* I'll admit it. I have weak character. I was irritated when they trotted out a dead serviceman's family to make the draft announcement and gave us a solemn public service moment at pick number 10 of Round 1.

I find all of the NFL's posturing - as if they are UNICEF or some charitable group promoting world peace - disgusting. I love pro football as entertainment, but keeping it real, it's a violent, cutthroat, exploitative, and hypocritical big business with little to no real redeeming value.

The ridiculous promotion of 'the shield' and all of the 'good' it represents is hard to stomach.

In his press conference, Peters insinuated they did try to get back into the first round, but that the cost was higher than they were willing to spend. In some respects, I appreciate that. The trade you don't make is sometimes better than the trade you do. We've got a treasure trove of valuable picks and we don't want to give them away for cheap.

If we can get four starters (long term) out of these first three rounds that would go a long way into making this team's future.

(And now, back to my usual whining about wanting a left tackle)

On this topic, I appreciate the work the NFL does. I like they have a Make A Wish kid announce a draft pick. I like when they involve a family who experienced tragedy, to give them a short time to lift their spirits.

What I don’t like, is how Goodell or an NFL rep spends so much time talking about what the NFL is doing in these situations. The focus is less on the kid fighting the disease, the veteran serving overseas, or the family struggling with tragedy. It’s more about “look at how good we are in the NFL that we are doing these things.”

My father in law is a WWII vet and still going in his 90's. He was curious to see the national anthem and military parade dress honor guard opening the NFL draft? He said that was no place for the military.

Well, hopefully as Peters and Newmark get nested in their roles the visibility of ownership can be lessened a bit.

I notice that the ownership of the Devils has stepped back and the new GM named last year has become the de facto face of the team.

Now Peters comes out and admits Washington had Daniels as the tentative pick for some time.

No way did I believe that after months of research and review of the scouting data from 2022-23 that the team still was up in the air about who to select coming down to the final week.

I want to not discuss the last owner ever again, but this guy in Charlotte makes me so thankful we got rid of our terrible owner. This guy should be the new whipping boy of the NFL media.

Summary: Charlotte Restaurant puts out a sign saying to let the GM and coach make the pick. Tepper stops by 2 hours before the draft to confront the manager. There is video and it seems peaceful, but it’s at best cringy as the kids say.

Not sure if this belongs here. Some of you old time ESers might remember Gbear. I just got word from his wife that he's in ICU and very ill. Pneumonia. He's one of the very good ones. Not just as a Redskins' fan, but as someone who's taken into his home many severely disabled foster children.

I'm going to see him when he's well enough. If you have a good thought to spare for him it won't hurt.

We are all paying attention to left tackle and it’s a good discussion but left guard is also a question.

Nick Allegretti was signed and penciled in as a starter by many but he really has never held down a starting job before despite being 26.

I am leery of offensive linemen the Chiefs cycle through - Wylie, Donovan Smith and now Nick.

Other than Orlando Brown Jr. Reid doesn’t let quality starters walk away and that was only due to the salary cap.

Chiefs fans I talked to about Allegretti say he is a backup and spot starter but not strong and athletic enough to be a plus grade starter.

I think they might try out Ricky Stromberg at left guard. He played mostly center in college with some time at right guard. If they are going to keep him on the roster, they will have to find a spot where he can contribute. On the other hand, maybe he'll just be one more Rivera draftee cast aside because he can't live up to expectations. Remains to be seen.
