I feel sorry for a number of the younger fans that only have Snyder as a guidepost to judge an organization and look at Baltimore or Kansas City as the type of an organization that is impossible for us to build without divine intervention :eek:

That leads a lot of them to propose massive trades and free agent signings to change the fortunes without understanding it is doing 1,000 little things correctly in the offseason that lead to a better result in 2024.

Bill Parcells took a team from 1-15 to 9-7 in New York, Dick Vermeil took a 5-11 team in St. Louis to 13-3 and a Super Bowl win.

The best front office people and coaches don't complain about what they don't have, they go out and get them :)
 
I have lost count to the amount of times I have had parents or players come to us coaches with their ideas about the team, plays and players where when you start to talk to them about how they came up with the idea, you realize its from Madden and what they heard on X about how a team should function. So, our response is the same each time.....we offer them a position on the staff. We still have not had one accept, FYI.
 
What I have found over the years is it's a lot easier to spot what is going WRONG on a team than in coming up with the right solutions.

In basketball, I look at rebounding comps, three point percentages and points in the paint.

When you look at those you can see easily WHY the Wizards have won 9 of 54 games.

At the same time it's much harder to imagine exactly HOW the front office brings in Coach X to implement a scheme and then acquire the right players to construct the turnaround.

For that you need to be in this 24 hours a day much as I am with my own business.

Fans don't realize the hours that Peters and Newmark put in to turn this around.

Ditto for the coaches.

They read the 'easy' statistics just like we do and realize we have to protect better, run the ball more effectively, pass rush better and defend against chunk plays on defense :LOL:

Hearing that from fans must be galling to the professionals, much as someone coming along and saying to me 'well, if you made better gross margin on this deal you would have been more successful'................

Sad to hear. Doesn't the NFLPA provide long term health care to modern era players? My biggest memory of Mike is personal. Once, when visiting as a reporter he snuck up behind me and strangled me. I think he thought it funnier than I did, but it was cool once he let go.
 
I think we would be shocked to hear just how little the NFL and the NFLPA care about former players.
 
Don't NFL benefits start with guys who qualify for the pension after 10 years in the NFL?

I don't think players with less than 10 years service walk away with more than a minimum set of referrals for wellness and care.
 
NFL players must play for three seasons before they can be eligible to receive a pension. That's when they’ll be considered vested. (Meaning they’re eligible to receive benefits negotiated under the CBA.)

Medical Insurance on the NFL Plan after the 5 years provided post retirement can cost up to $35,000 annually just in premiums.

The NFL Dedicated Hospital Network Program grants players $25,000 annually for medical care and another $25,000 for mental health services.

Much higher dollar benefit levels are provided to retired players who suffer from Dementia, ALS, or Parkinsons.
 
OK, it must be that they are fully vested after 10 years. I remember Brian Mitchell talking about hitting that 10 year marker and how important it was for veterans to play that 10th season in the NFL.
 
The amount of income a retired NFL player receives is based on his number of seasons played. Each season represents a credit towards the amount of pension money he can receive.

Also, NFL players must be at least 55 years old to receive their full pension money. If a player wants the money earlier, he can receive a lesser amount plus penalties for taking the pension early. For a player that can wait until 65 to take the pension, the benefit greatly increases.

On average, retired NFL players earn about $43,000 annually from their pension.
 
Well it's nice to see so many former players and teammates donating. And of course Joe Gibbs is at the top with the $10000 donation.
 
Effective Cap Space: the cap space a team will have after signing at least 51 players and its projected rookie class to its roster.

I think that I have shared this book before, but one of my sons gave me this book at Christmas. Fantastic read and found very interesting.

He may have been offered a reduced role by Quinn.

I think the timing of the news about Kingsbury makes it unlikely that EB was offered the OC job but that doesn't mean he wasn't offered something.

EB's account seems to jive with Quinn's as well, since all Quinn said was "we won't be working together here".
 
I imagine that would mean he would have been stripped of his Asst HC title.
