Probably true - but that makes the NFL’s actions more despicable, not less.
 
That's what we call the 'ugly' face of business.

The NFL doesn't do anything that costs money until it is forced to do so by threat of lawsuits or other.

Agreed.
Especially when you consider all the talk we hear about "cornerstone franchise" or one of the "crown jewels" of the NFL.
To then turn around and blatantly erase that out of the record books and then the beat say nothing?

Yeah, that's gutless.
 
Media used to ask provocative questions. Now, because news organizations within networks act as part of the for-profit business structure, they seek to avoid ANY controversies that do not result in the re-affirmation of current politically correct viewpoints.

I remember back in the 1980's the Post news division acted quite independently of the paper's Board. Only Graham could really 'reign them in' when covering a story.

Today, no one and ESPECIALLY no one in the sports pyramid of the ESPNs is going to raise these types of issues.

Criticizing the NFL has consequences which Goodell's office through contacts is VERY GOOD at communicating to media.

Snyder was unpopular with the NFL and owners wanted him out and so media had a free shot on Snyder and the Washington organization.

But if the sports media started criticizing the organization of the Steelers or Chiefs or Giants for 'Reason X', it would be quietly shut down behind the scenes.

That said, there was a pretty good article on Native Americans protesting the Chiefs and the tomahawk chop in the Washington Post the day before the Super Bowl. It dealt with the presence of decades of protests against the Chiefs for their name, fan actions, etc. so that goes against your narrative. What supports your narrative is that I was pretty unaware of any serious or prolonged anti-Chiefs movement. It certainly hasn't become a national story as it did for the Redskins even though the people this journalist interviewed claimed that the objectification of a people through any mascot was harmful and so the "damage" done by both names in their view was the same.

Jim Trotter is a cautionary tale for any reporter that wants to question ‘the shield’ or hold it responsible for it’s actions or inactions.
 
Yeah, I think it is important to note that our team would still have its original monicker if not for the former owner. Had he chosen to go quietly when it was clearly made apparent to him that he was no longer wanted in the Club of the NFL, the league would have continued to protect the team as regards to the name.

However, when all diplomatic back-channels were ineffective and exhausted, the league moved on to more drastic measures in an attempt to avoid the nuclear option of an open vote to force a sale. In an effort to avoid that, any and all options were on the table to achieve the league's goals.

Sadly, once that door was opened, it appears it has become something of a Pandora's Box and I'm sure we have not seen the end of the ripple effect. It seems that any reference to the old name in NFL history could now be a casualty of that action. It also seems possible that more teams could pay the price for the league's willingness to let it happen once.
 
It’s one thing to have a hard time preventing fans tomahawk chopping. It’s quite another to allow the associated music to blare throughout the stadium.

FSU has the approval ($$$) of the Seminole tribe to carry on with their traditions. Does KC have any such arrangements?
 
Not really upset that Chase didn't get a ring yesterday. He actually played well enough to rate one and would have been a contributor to that win (though he did disappear in the second half), but his half-assing it in Washington and milking his injuries left a bad taste.

Feel slightly petty about expressing this out loud.
 
There were protests at the Super Bowl in Minneapolis I recall by Native Americans in regards to the 'Redskins' name.

But it was a small group and their activity was not a focus of or really mentioned by any of the major media organizations covering the game.

Definitely viewed as a 'fringe' issue at the time.

BTW, I went to the game and was there for Super Bowl week. Fans had all kinds of paraphernalia identified with Native Americans from plastic tomahawks to face paint and headdresses, etc.

I had the same feeling. My nephew is a big Chiefs fan as he is a KC native and now in the military, so I was sort of rooting for KC anyway but wouldn't have been upset with Trent getting a ring from a SF win.

BUT, the idea of Chase Young getting a ring and the going on social media to stick it to Washington and all of the fans here made me really root more for Mahomes come the fourth quarter and overtime.
 
Jerry Jones still needs to give Mike Zimmer and Jeff some interior DL help.

National media talking heads were criticizing Dan Quinn for the porous run defense up the middle towards the end of the season and in the playoffs. Marcus Spears talked about getting tougher at the point of attack under Zimmer.

Evidently, he doesn't watch his own former teams' games or knows their personnel issues.

Jones and the front office DID recognize the need to give Quinn help inside at DL and resigned Johnathan Hankins the 32 year old veteran DT who came over from the Raiders in 2022 and drafted Mazi Smith with their #1 draft pick in 2023.

The trouble?

Hankins was injured earlier in the season and missed half of the season until being activated before the playoffs.

Meanwhile, Mazi Smith was poor at the point of attack and looked to be a bust. He was made a healthy inactive for a number of games and never showed the promise he was drafted with.

So, Quinn was forced to move Dorrance Armstrong inside on early downs from DE to DT and he was clearly playing out of position.

Of course Jones could have helped his defense by making a trade at the deadline to pick up a veteran DT on an expiring contract but Dallas didn't make any moves to address a clear area of weakness. Nor did Dallas address linebacker where the team's best run defender Leighton Vander Esch missed most of the season as well.

Watch Dallas make moves in the offseason to get a couple of bigger DTs with a history of plugging up the middle and all of a sudden Zimmer will be called a genius.

Sometimes it DOES just come down to the talent ;)
 
No matter what Dallas does or does not do in the offseason, like death and taxes, they will be hailed by the national media as a Super Bowl favorite in the coming season.

'X' is mostly a platform for barking dogs that are sitting in their parents' basement mad at the world and not having the friends to express any of their frustrations to in person :rotflmao: :rotflmao:
