And I'm going to ask you to stop posting your Wentz diatribe/Heinicke love-fest posts in this thread, the game thread, and the Blind Pig thread. If you want to start your own thread on the topic, do it.

Fine. I'm not saying anything that terrible. I'm simply pointing out that Wentz is finished as a starting QB in the NFL. It's plain as day.

This team can win 8 or 9 games with Heinicke as QB. He has a quicker release, better accuracy, and, most importantly, he has the ability to extend plays and make good things happen. Like he did many times last season, especially against the Falcons and Panthers.

Washington would have been 2 - 15 last season with Wentz as QB. They would have lost all of those close games to the Giants, Falcons, Bucs, and Panthers, at a minimum.

Overall, this team's roster is better than last season.

What is happening right now is an absolute tragedy. The locker room knows Wentz is not the answer and they know they can win with Heinicke. They did it last year, before covid and injuries doomed this team. Every player on this team must hate Rivera by now. Except Wentz, of course.

But I'll go away now.

Just shake off the frustration, just like Heinicke would shake off a slow defensive lineman, and keep on runnin forward !

If the team decides to bench Wentz I’d suggest putting Howell in and seeing what he can do. Heinicke is a solid backup but he’s not the future. If the season is done give The Kid some reps.

I disagree with this statement. Neither line is better at this point than it was at this time last season.

I guess you could argue the skill positions on offense are better this year but that is it and I don't think it makes up for the situations on the lines.

The defensive line is definitely better. They made Tannehill's life a living hell yesterday. Same thing with Lawrence in week 1. The defense this year is significantly better than the first 5 games last year.

The offensive line is not healthy, so it's hard to evaluate right now. I would argue that the offensive line is not as good as last year, but the skill positions at WR and RB have improved.

DL starters are better, but our depth is bad. And history says that will be a big deal before the season is over.

Right now, my feeling is if we lose at Chicago, then we bench Wentz and start Howell to see if he could be the future. That would give him a week and a half to prep and build a game plan around his skills. The only reason not to do that is if you think the line will get him killed and he will become Ramseyed.

It's not that I blame Wentz for 1-4. Hell, we can't even be trusted to snap the ball, But if we're out then I'd rather give Indy a third than a second and start looking to the future. At 1-5 the season is all but dead anyway which is a shame because I do think we have some dynamic elements that could have made this season exciting.

Say what you want about Heinicke, he was good enough to win 7 games last year on a team with a terrible defense.

As a 5th round draft pick, there is no guarantee that Howell will win 7 games during his entire career.

Unless you think that Heinike can be the franchise qb for the next five years, I see no benefit in starting him. Sure, you'd probably win more games with him this year than Sam, but so what? Is 6-11 going to make you happy? Now, if you could tell me you believe he could make a 1-5 team into a 10-7 team then sure, but unless you see this team completely flipping the script with Hienike then better to see what you have. Heinike is a known quantity more or less (at least this coaching staff thinks they know what they can do with him.)

My feeling with Hienike is that he is an NFL starter, but that he's probably a bottom third NFL starter. Frankly, if we don't have the QB on the team I'd rather go 3-14 then 7-10. 7-10 only lets you lie to yourself.

Mind you, the first step may be getting the Dems to win the House so that the NFL will feel pressured to give Snyder the boot. Pretty sure the R's will take the House, but since the R's are pro-Snyder (at least as far as the committee goes) the R's taking over helps Snyder.

I think it depends. If we are still mathematically in it when/if a QB change is made, have to go with Heinicke. But as soon as we are mathematically out, makes sense to see what Howell looks like with and against starters.

Yes, I personally believe that Heinicke is good enough to make a 1 - 5 team a 9 - 8 or 10 - 7 team. Especially on a team with a better defense than last year.

And I point to my previous post regarding Heinicke's play-action effectiveness as evidence.

I think it's ludicrous for anyone to pretend that Howell is the "future" of this franchise, as a 5th round draft pick. If you want to make Heinicke compete with Howell for the starting job next season, that's fine with me. But I'm confident that Heinicke will win that battle.

The one thing that I don't like about Heinicke is that he is a Republican. Maybe he'll wise up as he gets older.

I don't think anyone HAS argued Howell is the future, have they? But the truth is, he showed some serious potential in preseason and if you may be one of the teams at the top of the draft board, it would behoove you to have some idea what you have in Howell before using a high pick. This is well on it's way to being yet another lost season, so there's little risk in doing so.
