Agreed. I'd love to take a flyer on a QB in the latter part of the draft if there's some raw player with high potential out there, but in the first two rounds I think we go for BPA with a side of need which may mean safety, linebacker, wide receiver, corner, and possibly DT depending on what they think about Payne, the loss of Settle and Ion, plus the upcoming contracts for Sweat and Young.
Sheesh... that's a lot of needs.
See I dont see the as "needs" as much as I see them as areas with room to improve, and those are 2 very different things.
If we go into the season with Curl / McCain, i think we're all 'ok' with that, but if Hamilton happens to fall to 11, we'd all be happy to take him and upgrade the position.
If we go into the season with the current WR group, I think there's enough there to be a decent group (if Samuel can stay healthy), but if we were to add a top tier WR in the draft, we're excited about the future.
If we were to go into the season with the current CB group (Fuller / Jackson / St Juste / Johnson) I think we all see that unit as one that CAN be good, but if we added Gardner or Stingly, man it could take that next step
AT DT we seem thin but Wise played meaningful minutes and since he's been here Smith-Williams has proven to be versatile playing both inside AND out.
LB is about the biggest 'need' imho, but I also don't think the prudent pick would be at 11. Trade back, or wait until the 2nd round because from what i've seen 11 is overdrafting.
That leaves BPA as the best option where we don't have to 'reach' to fill a 'need' but we've got plenty of places that don't necessarily have a position group thats incapable of being improved upon.
NO team has ALL PRO talent at every position, so every team would classify of having 'needs' that simply cannot be addressed by personnel. It comes down to whats around them to compensate for the 'lesser' unit.
