Honestly - I get the real feeling that as bad as it is, idiot fans are going to make it even more of an embarassing struggle bus to stay on.

1) They'll want to awkwardly rewrite HTTR with cringe-worthy new words
2) They'll clamor for a mascot - and it's going to be some kind of stupid Hog iteration, because you know - history
3) They'll call them 'Mandos' and Fed Ex will be Central Command

You already see the idiot hordes working 'Commander' into their Twitter handles and suggesting this kind of shit.

Please. Just. Don't.
 
To each his own. I am on Hog overload. Between listening to 'Red Hogs' (wtf IS that?!) advocates for 6 months and groups that self-promote and want to be fan celebrities that go by Hog-whatever, I am porked out. If we never have a 'mascot' it'll be good news to me.
 
I am digging on your avatar though. Maybe Captain Danny can be the mascot?
 
People keep trying to pimp Hogs as a way to keep the last vestiges of a dead team.

In a way,I can relate but it's pretty obvious that the Front Office of Washington's new expansion team wants no part of that.
 
I think it will be infinitely 'calmer' now that the name issue is settled. We can get back to usual level of non-name-related drama. Today's topics?

1. Can the NFL ever force Daniel Snyder out as owner or are fans ****ed forever?
2. Will we ever have an above average QB for an extended period, and exactly how does the team manage to find that guy?

1) No and yes
2)The only way the club gets that is if they draft one. Picking up someone else's aging franchise Qb that's either started down the slope of decline or is in the twilight of their career, will not be the answer.

I think Russell Wilson would be an exception. He's still got 5 or 6 years of elite play in him (I believe) and his leadership style would be a perfect fit for a Ron Rivera team. I'd give up two 1st rounders and a star player to get him. I think Derek Carr is another one I'd be willing to give up some capital for. Unfortunately, I don't think there's any chance their teams let them go.

I wish I was as bullish on Wilson. Watching him play this past season, I think even right now he's at best 75-80% of what he was in his prime ... which yes, would make him the best QB we've had around here in a very long time. But I'm having a hard time projecting that to last over more than another 2-3 seasons.

That said, IF we could get him aboard for less than a deity's ransom, AND draft a guy (and maybe again next year) to sit and learn behind him, I'd probably run out spend way too much on a top shelf bourbon to celebrate.
 
My only questions about Wilson relate to the injury to his throwing hand. (Kind of important, I know)

How much did it affect his play upon his return and is it perfectly healed & healthy now.

Did you guys see Wilson at the Pro Bowl QB competition. He looked like... prime Russell Wison :) I know it's just drills and not real action, but he looked 100% his normal self. I wouldn't read too much into what you saw with him coming back way too soon from hand surgery. I was worried about that as well - until I saw him throwing at the Pro Bowl where he absolutely lit it up.

Ok, for the sake of argument I'll raise my estimate of where he'll be at 34 (come November) compared to where he was five years ago to 85-90%. I'd still be fervently hoping the price to get him wouldn't be crippling, since I'm not real confident that as a mobile QB's he's likely to play at that level much more than 2-3 more years.

Be fun to watch though.
 
I don't want to give up 'the farm'. The question is, how do you define 'the farm'? If we aren't willing to offer at least our next two 1st rounders, it's a pointless conversation - because a) he's worth at least that, and b) it likely would be the absolute minimum to even be seriously considered (and it would likely take that in addition to another pick or a starting-caliber player to make it happen).

I don't necessarily agree with this argument, but I also won't say it's wrong that being afraid to give up a bunch of picks is silly because:
- We'd likely blow those picks or at best, pick guys who do not end up being franchise-changing players. We have a recent history of Dwayne Haskins and even Chase Young (who was supposedly the 'can't miss' as close to 100% guaranteed superstar as there's been in the NFL in the past decade, and even that pick has already come into question.
- Unless we finally get a franchise-changing QB, it won't matter who we use those picks on, we'll continue to lose more than we win.

I don't necessarily buy all that, but I get the sentiment. I've said elsewhere, I think that the draft capital we gave up for RG3 hurt us in ways we could never fully realize. On top of spending all that to get a guy who ultimately was not an NFL starter, you could argue it set us back another 5 years in being able to recover from that blown selection.

Yeah, as to where the choke point is on "how much is too much," it's gonna be different for different people.

Honestly I'm not sure where mine is sitting here today ... but then it's only Feb. 6.
 
I don't think Rivera/Hurney/Mayhew are going to give up multiple #1's no matter who we are talking about. Since none of the teams with top tier QBs have any incentive to give their guys away for anything short of a king's ransom, I don't see any of these fantasy trades happening.

I could be wrong of course. But it would go against everything we've seen and know about these guys. That's probably a good thing.

I'll tell you exactly how bad that RG3 trade set us back. Now obviously we can't expect our front office (especially the one in place at the time) to hit on EVERY pick but here are players that were available when we WOULD have been on the clock

And that's just in the draft...

Selling the farm is worth it, if the return is worth it. You better damn well be right. Especially when you see what minor moves other teams make within the draft and come away with their guy. Mahomes, Josh Allen, Lamar Jackson.... all traded for on draft day. Matt Stafford... traded for. NONE of them sold the farm, all of them have been in the conversation for MVP, 3 played on championship weekend, and 1 is going to play for a ring in a week. If he's your guy, get him... it's the most important position in sports, but if he's not the next Tom Brady, Peyton Manning, or Aaron Rodgers, make sure you keep in mind the fact that he cant do it alone, and even those guys have had some serious talent around them.

I think one of the most important factors as Brother Om referenced, whether guys are 100% healthy or not, you have to factor age into the mix. Huge difference between trading the farm for a talented QB who is coming off his first contract or is 27 or 28 vs. someone approaching mid-30's.

It haunts me lol


QBs are playing longer and longer, but I don't think they are ageless. People forget very quickly that Brady, Rodgers, and Brees are the overwhelming exception. More often than not, QBs end up closer to Peyton Manning and Phillip Rivers in their final couple of seasons. Struggling to find a balance within themselves that they've been able to make a throw for 12 seasons but they just simply can't make that same throw anymore.

I think Wilson has a few more years left, but trading multiple first round picks basically says we're playing for a SB in the next 2 seasons. It's not just draft compensation, but trading for Wilson with the contract he would receive, likely means a handful of players on their current salaries aren't in the long term plans of the team. Can't pay them all. Montez Sweat, Chase Young, Terry McLaurin, Sam Cosmi, Logan Thomas.... All players that likely have their contracts expire prior to Wilson's cost coming off the books. Very likely we're going to have to have difficult conversations regarding a couple of those players. If you also don't have multiple draft picks to get top end talent at a low cost in here to offset that cost, it can be difficult.
