39 rushing attempts?!!??!

WTF happened there, did someone hijack the headset from Gruden or what? That's à beautiful stat line seeing 39 attempts for 229 yards....yes please!

Okay for those who watched the game I have a few questions.

Was Kirk off or a combination of that and more dropsies by the wr's?
How did our o-line look in pass pro? Saw we let 2 sacks happen
Was our front 7 just missing Geoff with pressure or Manusky playing more coverage today?

Kirk Cousins being 'protected' by a more conservative, ball-control gameplan may be the key to successful outcomes in early games this season, but when you are considering paying a guy franchise level money for the next 5-6 years, you have to ask yourself the question, do we need to pay $25M plus for a guy to operate off play action and play the percentages?

Chris Thompson is the best player on this offense right now and he needs to see the field more as a three down player.

Yeah, plenty more season to play but I agree he's nowhere near the $24M/yr worth. I wouldn't mind having him as the qb for 4 or so more yrs but for like $20M/yr max...maybe

I stayed out of chat to change things up to help us win. I will stay out of chat for as long as we win

Crowder is the best player. Thompson did some good things, but also cost us on two big plays with a lack of focus.

Cousins had some good drives and some 'huh?' ones. WRs played better than game 1, but they'd pretty much have to - right? Thompson dropped a certain TD pass that was thrown perfectly. Cousins will never throw a successful fade pass, but we'll still keep trying it to the shortest WRs we can find in key situations. Cousins is using his feet more which I like seeing. He even 'slid' successfully once today :) Best play for him was the one when it counted most, the TD throw at the end to Ryan Grant. We ran the ball so well, Kirk didn't have to carry the team.

Pass pro was pretty good. The Rams are no slouches on the DL. By comparison the Skins pass rush harassed Goff all day long - sometimes even when only rushing 4.

Loved seeing the commitment to the run today!

My one quibble: We ran the ball all the way down to about the 6-7 yd line. Then got pass happy with two fades.

Should've just kept pounding. At the time, they were getting 5-6 yds a pop. Had to settle for 3 and it seemed like the momentum changed.

Hope that this isn't just a one game thing and Jay stays committed to it!

Great win today! Joy in Mudville tonight!

Good game last night.

Here's my potted overview of what I saw.

Came out strong in the running game, Kelley was a beast. I haven't checked the stats but he was pushing 7 yards per at one point I think. Thompson was obvious in it too and Perine started to look really good too when he settled down.

After dominating early we stumbled and let them back into the game. For me it started the moment we lost Kelley, and then spent a few minutes losing players left right and centre. Every other play seemed to have one Redskin or the other needing treatment and limping off the field. Kelley was the big blow, Thompson was a beast but only had 3 rushes (albeit one went for 61yards and a score) but we struggled with Perine. He looked hesitant... but then int he 4th he started to find his groove. He finished with 67 yards on 21 carries despite the fact I think the Rams were keying on the run at that point. I'd be interested to see what his break down by Qtr was. He looked like he was gaining 5 or 6 a pop in the 4th. Of course this might have something to do with the Defense wearing down too. Who knows! But I don't think it was a surprise to see us start to play much better again as soon as the running game got back on track.

The passing game was still not where it needs to be but was at least serivceable. Towards the end I thought it looked much better, maybe it's taken a while to shake off rust and get us game ready in that phase. We'll see next week.

Our D looks MUCH better to my eye. There were some silly mistakes, a couple of long third downs converted that shouldn't have been, Breeland had an ordinary game after I thought he played well last week (including am embarrassing hurdling moment!). I like what I'm seeing though and am optimistic that they'll grow more cohesive as a unit as the year goes on. Interested to see if Cravens comes back what a difference he'll make.

The only thing I'd say about the D is that they need to get home more often somehow. Love the pressure we bring, just need to see it get to the QB a little bit more. Wanted more than just 2 sacks.

Crowder is Garcon.
Pryor is not Jackson.
Grant is surprising me.

I hope Kelley is ok, he was really our driver early. Reed still worries me, when he went off I was like "Oh here we go again" but then he came back in and played. Here's hoping he's good for next week.

Our O-Line played significantly better this week against their front. I think they did as well as could be expected. Donalds name came up frequently but he wasn't a huge factor I didn't think. Kirk's protection was much better and the run blocking was really strong.

Kirk played better. Not great, but better. Those fades were awful and they really should retire them or at least throw them to the targets that have the height to get them. I assume the concept is that we catch a defense by surprise, they think the fade will go to the tallest WR's well SURPRISE we've thrown to the shortest. It's a low percentage catch though, so we should stop trying it. Just stop. Especially when it's first and goal and they can't stop our ground game??!?! Pound it in!!!! Again, I assume they were trying for the element of surprise, just failed miserably.

Few drops again from the decievers, but at least Kirk was more on target this week. Last week he was glaringly high in his throws, this week they were much more on target. Crowder made a spectacular catch on one throw, but Pryor really needs to use some moisturiser on them stone hands of his. Oil of Ulay might help. Talked about this a little in chat. He was a 55% catcher last year, caught 55% in game 1 and this week was 2 of 4... 50%. Not the breakout game I was hoping for lol.

Still we got the win, tough game against a confident team with a coach who had some inside knowledge of how our team operates and especially how Kirk conducts himself. I still feel like we're a team finding an identity and we're still fragile, it felt to me like those injuries in the middle of the game knocked us off our equilibrium and put the Rams back into the game till we settled again. We need to establish a confidence to be able to shake that stuff off straight away and I'm hoping that with a confidence growing in Thompson and Perine and if Kirk can find some rhythm with Reed, Crowder and *gulp* Grant then we can keep rolling when adversity hits. At that point getting Pryor on the same page will be like the icing on the cake.

Happy we're tied in the division now.... but a tough couple of weeks coming up though.

I'll stop rambling now. :D

Thought this was interesting. We may not have a superstar Running Back but...

—Robert Kelley rushed for 79 yards, Chris Thompson gained 77 on the ground and Samaje Perine got 67. The Redskins have not had three backs gain 65 yards or more in a game since December 1, 1957, when Ed Sutton (72), Jim Podoley (71) and Don Bosseler (68) did it.

Hey Knight.. ramble all you want.. I enjoy reading your rambling... I had to leave chat (well, I don't think I actually left the room.. but the fall my sister had earlier ended up being a little more than initially thought and we ended up taking her to ER)... in any event.. your rambling brought me "back" into the game and gave me the excitement people must have felt when CT scored his second TD... and if I read it right.. one TD drive had NO passes? Wow. {Note to self... check with Boone re: updating App on phone}

Hopefully next week I'll be in chat for the entire game but as my sister's condition goes down, my obligations there go up. Frustrating but nevertheless necessary. (Don't take that the wrong way.. of course my sister's needs come first, just her "timing" could be "better". But we do get the game since it's the Sunday night game, and then the next week is Monday night (and I'll be joining you from the shores of Wilmington, North Carolina while watching that one...perhaps I'll share a few photos....while sitting on the balcony of my room, football on screen

However my coming home to a Dallas loss and Eagles loss (knew we had won) was a really pleasant thing to see... so the worst thing that can happen is the Giants win tonight

To be fair Doc, I stayed up till about 4:30am watching the Packers get beaten by Atlanta to show support for the Wife. So when I got up for work I'd had about 3 hours sleep. Hence the rambling, bad grammar and spelling etc. I was a little punch drunk this morning. LOL

Sorry to hear about your sister. :( Hope she's ok, hugs and good wishes winging their way across the Atlantic :D

What I saw:

-Terrell Pryor needs to learn to switch ball hands. On his second catch he caught the ball and broke free with one man to beat, but he kept the ball in his inside arm and the defender was able to tackle him. If he had switched the ball to his outside arm he could have used the inside to help shed the tackle and maybe find a little more daylight.

-DJ Swearinger, while not wow'ing anyone with his play, is spiritually a pretty big influence on the D.

-Preston Smith is our most untalked about treasure. The guy had another good game. Quietly.

-Kendall Fuller is developing quite well. He's been a pleasant surprise.

-Kirk Cousins made a big clutch play when we needed him to. Kudos to him. Still not sold on him, but I can't say much here.

-We ran the ball down the field and thew a fade and corner route to an injured receiver and Chris Thompson. If we INSIST on throwing there, it needs to be to Reed. If he's covered look to other options. If they're not wide open tuck and run or throw it away. Even better option: Run the ball.

-Samaje Perine has a little burst to him and has pretty good vision. Once he got the nerves out of the way he looked like a NFL caliber RB.

-Rob Kelley looked the best I've ever seen him look before the injury.

-Crowder needs to be a priority for the offense.

You can't underestimate the importance of hiring Gray to coach the DB's. He was Fuller's coach in college and we now see his improved play.

I wish someone would burn the page in our playbook with the fade routes. Gruden needs be more creative. Or maybe try someone like Pryor with his leaping ability.

At least we are seeing signs of weekly improvement from the team.

The season isn't a sprint. It's important where you finish and not how you start.

Not sure we don't have the receivers for the fade. Pretty sure we don't have the qb for it. Wilt Chamberlin couldn't have caught the first one.

Curious. If Cravens comes back or we bring up someone from practice squad, who is next in line to be cut from the 53?

Schefter reporting that Rob Kelley has a fractured rib. Looks like Mack Brown will be active this week.
