Meh. Pierre Garçon had 950 receiving yards with guys named Painter and Orlovsky throwing him the ball.

Until proven otherwise, this guy Quick is a warm body. Like Roberts a few years ago, he'll fill a spot and put up pedestrian numbers until we can get someone better. Let's hope Doctson can play. And can play. Otherwise our WR corps won't scare anyone.

Quick is being brought in IMO to challenge for the #4-5 receiver spots.

Nothing wrong with that.

We needed to get bigger and more athletic at WR with the departures of Garcon and Jackson and that's what we are doing.

I look at 2017 as a GREAT opportunity to rebuild that position and perhaps get stocked for the foreseeable future.

Pryor is a 1,000 yard receiver off of a poor team where he was the only offensive threat and he still has considerable upside given how short a period of time he has worked at the position.

Doctson is a top draft pick that McCloughan thought was the best receiver in the draft. He wasn't alone in that assessment, although at the time I thought we needed more help elsewhere and there were still candidates on the board at some of those spots.

Crowder has proven to be an upper echelon slot receiver and he's only 25.

After that you throw Brian Quick at 6'4 and Maurice Harris at 6'3 into the mix.

Ryan Grant quite frankly hasn't shown me ANYTHING in almost 3 years with the team.

He's not especially athletic in terms of size and/or speed, he's OK as a pass-catcher although for a guy Gruden really seemed to like he was NEVER put out on the field at the end of the game when a win or loss was on the line.

And if Garcon or Jackson did go down, the potential slip down to Grant having to play extended reps was considerable.

Hopefully with some of these other younger guys with better upside getting a chance to come in and secure a role, we will have enough depth to make it through if a starter misses a couple of games.
 
Quick will have 1200 yards, 10 td's and a punt return for rd. BOOK IT!!!
 
Once again, interesting that McVay didn't want to give Quick a look see as a first year coach.
 
It could be that Quick was a wink and nod agreement with McVay.

Quick > Grant. Grant is as good as gone.

The team seems to be very high on Maurice Harris. He's been working with the other receivers this week - along with the QBs (Cousins included). Jon Gruden is running that effort.

Some people on twitter seem to think Jon Gruden could be the next GM. I don't see it.

Doctson said that he is at 100% now - the best he has felt since the injury at TCU.

I've been saying it all along, Harris is going to be an impact player ths year.
 
I don't buy into the idea that we have Doctson coming back, Gallette coming back etc etc. I go into this year and the draft as if we DON"T have them. I don't count them until they prove themselves on the field. We should then draft accordingly, as if we don't have them. That is the safest play, if we get BPA at WR and DL, then we pick them. Until then, both those guys have been a waste. make the roster first, then contribute on the field, then talk to me about how good they are and fit in with the team. I don't want to waste time with injury busts, it has killed us, so we need a new approach.
 
Not sure how I'd feel about John being the GM, leaning more against it. I still like the idea of Mayock actually. Dude is serious about scouting every season and his analysis is pretty in depth. Just imagine if he could bring that focus & research for just us.
 
We still aren't getting enough out of the draft.

Hopefully that will change in 2017 with 10 picks, we will see.

Out of 10 picks, we need to pull 6 or 7 guys that can make the team to replenish depth and at least 3-4 that go on to become starters here over time.

Former high picks in Preston Smith, Kendall Fuller, Matt Jones have looked anything but the consistent contributors and 'core' guys we need going forward.

We have hit on guys like Jamison Crowder and got what we should have out of the #5 pick in pro bowler Brandon Scherff.

But one expects the #5 overall pick to be an immediate impact player for your team.

Going back to 2014, a draft many of us criticized at the time, Bruce Allen and Co. did a reasonably effective job.

At least as good of a draft as the two under McCloughan and arguably could turn out to be better.

Morgan Moses looks like a 10 year fixture at RT, Spencer Long is the starter at OC and Trent Murphy improved to 9 sacks in 2016 without Junior Galette or a real athletic pass rush option on the edge available in the front seven.

I don't necessarily trust everything Bruce Allen does here. But McCloughan being gone doesn't necessarily mean the draft will be a bust.

I could not agree more with this. Two of Yoda's biggest picks were spent on Matt Jones and Josh Doctson. I desperately hope not on the latter, but it's possible they could both be busts. I have not personally been dazzled by our drafts during the McLovin era - I think he gets way too much blind love and faith from fans - more than any GM I've ever seen.
