I wouldn't mind giving a player like him a 2nd chance, I saw too much good from the kid at FSU. He could be a very solid backup at the least. If it weren't 1st offense, I'd say no, but he deserves another shot...Rex Ryan probably isn't the character to help a knucklehead.

Scherff--likely the best OL in the draft.
Preston Smith--Led all rookies in sacks. Remember that first round was trying to find the best pass rusher. We got him in the 2nd.
Jamison Crowder--2nd in receptions for all rookies. Broke Art Monk's record for most receptions by a rookie in Redskins history.
Martrell Spaight--He's a stud we found in the 5th.
Jarrett--He was great as a rookie before the injury. 6th rounder.

That's hard to criticize.

Scherff still has questions about pass blocking, not good for a top 5 pick at guard.
I'll give you Smith, he's trending in the right direction; howeva, nothing is a lock.
Crowder performed which I mentioned in my post.
Spaights is trending and seemingly fast becoming a fan favorite due to his big hitting ability. That's all that can be said about that.
The Jarrett situation was unfortunate, but hardly a success.

3 years from now we'll know how GMSM did.
 
Well, let's put things in perspective.

Before McCloughan got here we were drafting guys like LeRibeus (3rd round) and Jarvis Jenkins (2nd round), players that trended to be clear backups almost from the get go.

You may be cautious in giving the front office any credit for recent picks, but the point is they are coming in and contributing in their first years. They are not sitting on the roster being made inactive for 16 games as an after-thought.

Keyshoen Jarrett may not have an NFL future (hopefully this is not the case) because of the severe injury he suffered in what was unfortunately a meaningless season-ending game at Dallas, but that doesn't mean it was not a steal pick in Round 6.

Coming in and playing the slot corner role for the better half of the season, I don't think the Redskins win the division and make the playoffs without Jarrett and the midseason acquisitions of Mason Foster and Will Blackmon.

Don't get me wrong, I feel things have improved. Slow and steady wins the race. I'd love for the Skins to become annual playoff contenders. Just be solid, not world beaters. Just give me the feeling they always have a chance. "Any Given Sunday" is not a phrase that's been applicable to the Skins except for maybe RG3's rookie year.

Wasn't in love with the Scherff pick (wanted Leonard Williams). Liked the Doctson pick. One reason I am cautiously optimistic and don't put much credence in draft picks contributing is due to the state of the roster. The Shanahan's came in a wrecking ball. They didn't just ruin RG3, the roster was garbage.
 
Good article. Some comments on our RB situation and Josh Doctson.

People familiar with the situation said over the weekend that Washington wouldn’t likely bring in additional help at running back, whether by trade or through free agency. With every team in the league fielding 90-man rosters this time of year, very few quality running backs remain available. And Redskins officials aren’t desperate enough at this time to part with a player or future draft pick to obtain another back.

The Redskins remain hopeful that Doctson could begin practicing shortly, possibly seeing some action in the final preseason game. But it remains possible that he will open the regular season on the physically unable to perform list, which would prevent him from playing in the first six games, at a minimum.

I interpret that WaPo piece as meaning the Skins aren't likely to bring anyone in at RB now, but will likely wait for NFL-wide cuts as the season nears when the pool of available guys who are not currently sitting at home expands dramatically. I'd be willing to be we have a War Room chart of every single RB in the NFL, Canadian and any other pro league out there who are likely or even remotely-likely to be released, all color-coded and complete with current email and cell numbers of player and respective agents, ready to hit speed dial. Hard for me to envision we head into 2016 without at least one RB not already on the roster.
 
I wonder if Darren McFadden gets cut in Dallas that the Redskins bring him in as a backup to Jones.

He's 30 years old but adds that element of speed the team is lacking in the backfield.

Also, it appears Ronnie Hillman in Denver may not make the final roster and at 27 could be another guy to look at.
 
Those are two good candidates if we do sign another RB.

Another, probably less-likely candidate is James Starks from Green Bay.

With Eddie Lacy eating himself out of the starting job last year, he performed admirably. This year, GB seems to be committed to Lacy once again.

Stevan Ridley is also an outside possibility.

I'd bet Thomas is still the favorite, with Hillman being second.

First and foremost the team could use a tall target in the red zone to go along with Jordan Reed and prevent defenses from collapsing on him.
 
Karlos Williams got cut in Buffalo and cleared waivers...just a thought.

Remember that when vertical jump, arm length and height are added together, Docston can catch a ball 4 inches higher than AJ Green, and I believe 6 inches higher than Calvin Johnson.

Doctson, Reed and Garcon into the end zone.

Good luck stopping that.

On the surface, he looks like a no-brainer. 9 TDs in 11 games as a rookie. And I loved him in college.

But here's the issue. He's suspended the first four games this season for substance abuse. He won't even be able to see the field before MJ comes back.

He came into camp obscenely overweight. 260 pounds. I know you are familiar with what Eddie Lacy did last season.

31 teams just passed on him in waivers, including us.

Pick him up right now and cut one of the young guys? Let the young guys have another ps game to prove themselves? Or does KW need eight games out of the league to realize what he's throwing away?
