Random Commanders Thoughts

It's FRIDAY, the end of the work week, AND it's Gameday for the Skins !
That's enough to make even Ax and Goal both smile !
:)
We are always smiling, my friend. Whether it's for the same reason or not isn't always a certainty.

But, we're always smiling. :)

Matt Jones has a long way to go. If we didn't trade down in the 3rd with Seattle in 2015 we could have drafted uber stud David Johnson instead or took the guy the Seahawks took (Tyler Lockett). I know everybody is real high on GMSM and I can't deny I am enjoying the optimism; howeva, other than Crowder, have any of his picks made a big impact? Not counting punters. I don't think he's done a bad job, he's made some solid picks. That brings me to my point, solid doesn't win it all. We need great.

Perhaps I need more patience...

Oh, I think Scherff and Smith have also made big impacts on this team. I'm a bit bummed about our RB situation but overall I do think there is cause for optimism.

GM Beans. 2015 may turn out to be our best draft in a decade.

Scherff--likely the best OL in the draft.
Preston Smith--Led all rookies in sacks. Remember that first round was trying to find the best pass rusher. We got him in the 2nd.
Jamison Crowder--2nd in receptions for all rookies. Broke Art Monk's record for most receptions by a rookie in Redskins history.
Martrell Spaight--He's a stud we found in the 5th.
Jarrett--He was great as a rookie before the injury. 6th rounder.

That's hard to criticize.

2016 draft looks like it could easily be far better, even.

And did you intentionally leave out Matt Jones from your 2015 Draft grading ?
Not to mention, the jury's still out on Kouandijo and Reiter.

I did. I only listed the ones that everyone would easily agree on. But Jones and Kwanjo may be great picks too. Huge draft.

Especially when one remembers what was going on in each round.

Remember the first round? Was Donte Fowler the one? Shane Ray? Randy Gregory? Hello Preston Smith.

Remember the WRs teams were taking? Hello Crowder.

Here's some good news, and a great follow on twitter for anyone interested.

If reports of slight separation are accurate, not anticipating a significant problem for #MattJones.

This guy was a head NFL team Doc on the sidelines for 17 years. During the season, he'll sit on twitter and diagnose injuries in real-time by reviewing the film over and over. He usually nails down the correct diagnosis before the commentators or team report it.

Generally, we're terrific on paper before a season starts. Let's see how this plays out.
The 2015 season was an actual season of play. Not paper. To this point, I think its fair to say the 2015 draft was a pretty good one.

I think the most likely addition between now and the regular season is at running back. The question is - just what would be availlable out there at this point in the season?

There are several if we go that direction, and more will become available.

First shocking preseason cut: Buffalo Bills planning to release RB Karlos Williams, per league source.

@adamschefter

Reports to camp totally out of shape after a 4 game suspension for substance abuse? Mmmmm.... no thanks.

Williams is 23 years old. He was drafted in 2015 in the fifth round.

He averaged 5.6 YPC last season, with 7 TDs and 11 more receptions.

That's a good start....and much younger than someone like a 31 year old Pierre Thomas.

Now we just have to see why he was cut? Is there a PED suspension coming?

It will just come down to what McLovin wants.

Give up a draft pick in a trade for a potential great RB? But then what about Jones?

Just grab a potential filler for a few weeks until Jones is back?

Wait for someone to be cut and put in a waiver claim?

Grab someone like Pierre Thomas again?

I doubt that he'll do much. As in, he won't trade for a RB. I think he believes in the young backs he drafted. Maybe we'll pick up a Pierre Thomas type after the season begins.

I just told you why he was cut. He's a knucklehead.

Yep.....I typed that before I saw your response.

We'll have plenty of options as time passes.
