Taking safeties in the first round (Taylor, then Landry) so close together was a mistake. They had a much better option with Ryan Clark. The massive influence Clark had on Taylor was huge and very positive. Typical Vinny and Dan moves.
Since that time the safety position has been negatively affected all the way to the present. If Clark had stayed, even with the Taylor tragedy, the safety situation still would've been affected far less. With Clark around, and this could be far fetched, it's possible the tragedy is avoided.
Landry was a bust. Many figured he was roiding and it was just a matter of time until he was caught.
I put some of the blame on Coach Gibbs as well. Instead of Landry, that sixth overall pick could've been Adrian Peterson, Patrick Willis, Jamaal Anderson, etc.
I never liked the pick, but we can't change history. Another example of having poor football choices in the Snyder era. An era we hope is over with the exception of just ownership.
