Compton has really been a great replacement and has cemented himself as a starter, even since Robinson has been back up and healthy. Mason Foster has also been solid at the other inside LB spot - Kudos to Scot for finding him! They have been part of the locker room culture change and the team unity stuff we have been hearing about. Here's a write-up about Compton and Foster:

I'm livid over here. I just had dinner with a state champ Fla coach, the guy knows football. But no respect for the Redskins--zero.

He's not stupid. He puts Jay Gruden only behind Shula and Jimmy Johnson as the best coach to ever come out of Florida.

He obviously knows football. But my God, he gives us no chance. "Your owner is a joke. He'll kill the team."

Needless to say, I've just bet a large amount of money on our team. Most of it on us progressing to the second round of the playoffs.

Lol nah watching our rookies contribute this year I'm completely okay with Mcluvs working some magic.

As I said in the Chip thread the ONLY thing I'm concerned about is losing Callahan to an OC or head coaching job. Our guys with another year of his Jedi training combined with some promising picks is enough to smile about imho.

True though all the shitty teams in the league like tenn & clev will be looking at us for a how to guide. Our line play is a mile better than it was this time last season.

Now that we have a dominate O-line coach I just wanna be stingy with him for say 5-7 years.
 
it's a combination, though. Callahan knows how to coach the talent, but we do now have actual talent to coach :)

Scherff, Moses, etc. greatly upgrade the physical strength and athleticism of our OL over what we have had here in recent years.

With Long, Nsekhe (who I thought was a throw away acquisition), and Kouandjio we actually have some younger depth as well to work with.

Finally, it is about fit.

A stubborn coach could have kept Scherff at RT to legitimize the selection of Brandon at #5. Callahan and Gruden saw him and thought he could end up being a dominating player inside, so they moved him.

Ditto for giving Morgan Moses a chance to start when he showed improvement over the offseason.

The previous regime was VERY slow in promoting younger players to the starting lineup.

McCloughan brings in better players and the coaches know better how to use them.

What does Dan Snyder have to do with us winning a playoff game? I hate the guy as much as anyone, but I don't see a correlation here?
 
I don't normally go to SI, but randomly fell into the power rankings trap for a look see, we're at #9 for now if anyone really cares.
The comments going into the thought process were not bad

The argument against the Redskins right now is that they haven't beaten any “good” teams—all of their eight wins are against sub-.500 teams. OK, and ... so? They don't give the Vince Lombardi Trophy to the team with the toughest strength of schedule. Washington is playing its best football as the playoffs approach, a method many underdogs have parlayed into deep runs.

Callahan can't leave yet though.
His work here is not yet complete.
He still hasn't gotten around to teaching our guys how to run-block.

I'm not sure we're going to see too many more "great" teams anymore, definitely not great on both sides of the ball. You might get the Legion of Boom or the 00 Ravens, or the Greatest Show on Turf or the '07 Pats (who didn't win it all anyway) but I don't think we'll ever see the Rypien-led Skins again. The league is set up against that now.

I think our best bet is to allow McL to keep stocking the cupboard and just hope we get hot in the playoffs. Worked well for the Giants over the last decade.

(and for all those who want us to pick a WR in the first round, consider the Giants won two SB's by concentrating on the Lines, D and O. I'm not saying you can't win picking a WR in the first, but if you compare Detroit with the Giants...)
 
We were running the ball fairly well when Lava was still the G. I agree with Goal, we keep addressing both lines we'll continuously push for playoffs. Combined with a division that appears to be ripped apart with staff changes and we're sitting pretty.

A lot of the 'great' regular season teams in recent years including the 2007 Patriots, the 2013 Broncos, the 2009 Colts, etc. didn't end up winning the Super Bowl.

This isn't the 1970's or 1980's where you could often tell the likely Super Bowl winner by mid-season.
