Jay Gruden sets record straight on blocking sled, DeSean Jackson

Washington Redskins head coach Jay Gruden went through the entire injury list on Thursday afternoon. He had better news for DeSean Jackson and DeAngelo Hall.

Gruden reported more injuries on the roster, however.

“DeSean Jackson has an AC sprain (shoulder), he’s one to two weeks,” said Gruden. “D. Hall has a groin. He’ll be day to day. Jeron Johnson has a hamstring, he hurt that yesterday, he’ll be out about a week.

“Trevardo Williams has a hamstring, he’ll probably be two weeks. Chris Culliver has a groin, he’s day to day. Akeem Davis had thumb surgery this morning. We’re hoping to get it casted up. He might be able to go tomorrow, if he gets here on time.”

Gruden made it clear that the reports of DeSean Jackson being injured by a collision with a blocking sled are false.

The injury was caused by the impact with the ground.

“No, DeSean Jackson did not hit the sled. He landed on his shoulder. Sorry to squash that rumor. I’m sure nobody will write that.

“He landed on his shoulder and the momentum took him late into the sled but that did not cause the injury.”

Linebacker Keenan Robinson was poked in the eye during practice but did return to action.

all that drama for nothing. Hall is day to day and Jackson is just most likely doing what most vets do...sit out the rest of camp.

Trey Wolfe snagged an interception during 11-on-11 drills, playing perfect coverage and reading Texans quarterback Tom Savage all the way through the play. With the cornerback depth already being tested by the injury bug just a week into training camp, plays like these could go a big way for a the young guys.

so, the injury that Jax got hurt on....was a touchdown.

Jackson was the first player to go down. On the very first play of the team’s 1-on-1 session against the Houston Texans’ cornerbacks, Jackson went deep to catch a well-placed pass from quarterback Robert Griffin III.

Upon making the catch, Jackson’s momentum carried him out of bounds, where he landed on his right shoulder near a tackling sled on the sideline.

The prognosis was an AC sprain.

“He just landed on it,” Redskins head coach Jay Gruden said. “It might be one, two weeks.”

After going inside the facility at the Bon Secours Washington Redskins Training Center for further evaluation, Jackson returned to the Redskins’ sideline and did not participate in practice the rest of the day.

1-2 weeks sure sounds better than what people are trying to push. And, wheres the "tackling sled" that stopped him. video shows him landing on his shoulder and sliding.

Yesterday Cooley basically said this was an injury he had an hurt like hell, but wouldn't structurally get any worse and wouldn't keep someone out of a regular season game.

Yeah, not worried about his missing game time in September. Hopefully he won't miss too much camp and preseason time though ... the more reps the offense gets with all its parts in place before opening day, the better.

Here's to us getting through a day without yet another list of bumps and bruises, though. Sheesh.

Jackson is small...and he isn't fragile but he isn't built like a Megatron or Andre Johnson either so falls like that are going to hurt him. He's aight though...you know if we were playing he'd lace em up!!

he Indianapolis Colts claimed a player off waivers Thursday who will not see the field in 2015.
So, why did this acquisition result in elation inside the organization? Because acquiring cornerback Tevin Mitchel was a move that was a long time in the making. The sixth-round pick of the Washington Redskins was waived-injured Wednesday after suffering a shoulder injury that will require surgery. He won't play this season.

But, according to an NFL source, Mitchel was a late-round target of the Colts in the NFL draft earlier this year – until the Redskins grabbed him.

I'm confused.
I thought he counted against their roster, and that's the reason why some were shocked.
But guys on that forum are agreeing that they can IR him this year.
If that's the case, then
1) Why is this shocking what the Colts did, if he's not taking up a roster spot ?
2) Why didn't we just IR him, ourselves ?

1) I'm not shocked--it's a guy they apparently wanted, and they grabbed him when the opportunity arose. Guarantee we have a list of guys we'd grab from other teams under the same circumstances.

2) Hopefully, because Scot M believes we had and have better options. We may well have hoped to slide him through waivers and then IR him, but that's the risk every team has to take.

Washington Redskins rookie Quinton Dunbar signed with the team as an undrafted free agent to play wide receiver. However, the 6-foot-2, 195-pound former Florida Gators standout also worked out at cornerback in recent practices. Friday, it appears the switch to the defensive side of the ball is complete with multiple reports stating that Dunbar arrived in a burgundy jersey, which designated for defensive players for the Redskins...

Gotta say, this looks like a miscalculation - it's a shame to lose a guy for good 3 months after drafting him based on an injury he will likely fully recover from (and at a position of great need). I think we outsmarted ourselves on this one.
