I think an interesting idea was put up on another forum, sign suh and sign wilfork, move rak to end resign cofield and Bowen (if they are amenable to much cheaper contracts) use cofield as a rotational guy with Bowen playing base end on run downs, with rak at base end on passing downs and kerrigan moving to rush end on passingdowns. we would tie up some money but we would also immediately have a very good defence against the run and the pass rush would also be improved, our issue right now is lack of resources but it seems like everyone is ditching high cap cost guys, we just have to sell them on our team, something danny has been good at. if we could shore up the defence with no draft picks or even if williams falls to us and we take him then go rest of draft on Oline, I would be happy with these moves, I have always believed that you build up front first. I would be ok with grabbing a pile of solid dlinemen.
 
So Big Splash, Has Been and Chronic Injury....along with Broken Down 1 & 2 is your solution to building the Dline?

If we really want to compete, this has to be our mantra. It's high time we stop patching holes with duct tape and just re pave the road.
 
I agree. The goal can't be to have a greatly improved line this year - it has to be to have a greatly improved line for years to come. I think bringing in 'bridge' guys, no matter who they are, is a mistake.
 
I don't want anything to do with Suh, or the huge contract that will come along with him. We have been down this road before.....

depends......we already have a full batch of picks this year, and if we trade down, maybe we end up with about 10 picks. And if we make all of those quality picks, and quality FA signings, anything is possible. We've seen 3-13 teams and similar records, make drastic turnarounds in one year.
And even the best teams are not super-dominant in every single position - just the important positions.
 
I don't want another 2000 season where we get all these big names hoping they teach younger players and end up costing us while we still lose.
 
Every once in a while tho the Skins actually get decent production out of a big-name, aged FA vet, like the 1994 version of 33-year-old Henry Ellard, who had 74 catches, 1397 yards, 18.9 average, a long of 73 yards, and 6 TD's, and actually had 4 very productive seasons with us

you're not following the thought: too many holes = can't fix in one or more years = bridge guys not unreasonable part of rebuild strategy.
 
Niles Paul re-signed for 3 years. Can earn as much as a little less than $10 million.

Smart move, and reasonable contract.
 
He's nothing special. But until we're ready to find our future blocking TE in the draft, he's a relatively cheap placeholder.
