Yeah, Forsett has never impressed me. If Spiller is available and cheap, I wouldn't think twice.
 
If cheap, how about Demarco Murrey? I'm sure he'd love to beast out against the turds twice a year.
 
I think we have a pretty good 1 / 2 with Alfred and Roy, and hope we can hang on to Roy. We know what we have, and know what we need. We don't need world beaters, we need a good line for them to run behind. I also like what I saw of Redd in his limited action, so even if Roy doesn't sign with us, we don't really have to jump at any of the FA's that have been cut loose from other teams. With all the holes we have, RB is not high on my list, and the draft is loaded this year if the brain trust really feels we need another back.

Until he was hit with that double helmet to helmet he was definitely on his way up. he didn't do anything after coming back from that but there was a glimmer.

That seemed to be a turning point in his upward performance progression.
I wonder it it was a coincidence, or he became helmet-shy, or the coaches held him back as a precaution

I wonder that as well. Guess we will find out this year since we signed him again =)
 
If we can get our Oline play up this season to a reasonable level I would agree. None mentioned are past their prime.

We need every RB we have, or don't have yet, to be better at pass protection. Right now, every one we have sucks at it.

Yeah, it's not their primary duty, but it's a damn important one. At this point, seeing one of them get run over would be an improvement on the constant whiffing, or just being completely confused and out of position.
 
Amen Ax, piss poor blocking has cost us a few play breakdowns. While we're on the RB theme I personally wanna see D. Young's carries go the hell up. If Roy or Redman falter I'd be perfectly fine giving DY the rock 10-20 times a game.

I think we need to move on from Helu. He's the worst pass blocking back we have and has trouble holding onto the ball.

We can do better in a change of pace back either in the draft or in free agency.

I liked the idea of continuing to develop Roy when he was on his rookie deal and cheap under the cap, but I have no interest in bringing him back at $2-$2.5M a year.
 
Terrible at holding on to the ball? You mean morris and not helu, right?

Helu just averaged 13 yards per catch as a running back and stepped up every time morris stumbled.
 
Helu has had 6 fumbles in his 4 year career. Morris has had 11, but obviously has about 4 x the touches Helu has had. Helu does put the ball on the ground more often than he should, but he's one of those guys who when the ball is in his hands, good things tend to happen. Darrel Young is another guy like that. I would like to keep him. Bulldog is right though, he is awful as a blocker.
 
we were spoiled with Portis as a blocker. I dont know of many running backs or tight ends anymore who block like people want them to.

Wasn't the FB the blocking back, at least in old school football ?
Or maybe that was just on running plays.

If a FB is no longer a blocking back, then how do they differentiate the designations between the 2 positions, task-wise, other than the obvious size difference ?
If a guy is considered a short-yardage rushing specialist, is that what determines him being designated a FB ?

Without a doubt, tho DY gets those tough yards running mofo's over. A little Riggins-esque/power ball we're about to revisit.

This aspect about our O is what I'm most excited about.

Edit: I think it's all because of where he lines up, but not 100%. My only reasoning would be for when there's a FB dive called. The "halfback" position always confused me a little.

Guys like Clinton Portis and Darren Sproles have been excellent pass protectors. It's not size, but technique and the willingness to stick your head in there and make a play.

Roy Helu has been here since 2011. He is not a better pass protector than he is because he chose not to work on that aspect of his game adequately, believing his ability as a pass receiver would alibi him.

What he doesn't realize is that finding a well-rounded back that can play multiple roles and be effective is what keeps you around the NFL.

We had a guy in here last summer in Lache Sistrunk that the Redskins took in the sixth round largely on the recommendation of Robert Griffin.

He had straight line speed and elusiveness in the open field. But he couldn't block, couldn't hold onto the football, and ultimately wasn't a consistent enough pass catcher to stick with the club.

Roy is better than that of course. But he is a guy that needs to be on a team where he is perhaps the #3 back.

Counting on him as the #2 rusher and #1 change of pace back on third downs is a mistake.

That's why I don't think he will be back on a second contract for more money.

Your stats about a 6th round pick that nobody thought would materialize is insignificant. Griffin has as much influence as we do when it comes to who's drafted according to Shanahan when he was here.

Roy is a perfectly capable back who needs the ball more, not to be buried in the chart for silly reasons.
 
I like Roy. He's been a good Redskin. But I think he's easily replaceable. His blocking is awful. Just awful.

Won't be mad if we re-sign him.
Won't be sad if we don't.
