Random Commanders Thoughts

Well, again, if his trajectory continues downward, this will all be seen as part of the problem. But if he rises from the ashes, in the end, it will be seen as a strength.

I don't expect any upward ticks.

Even the most critical outlets of RGIII (like 106.7) have said that he technically is not in the wrong here, but needs to learn to not let this stuff get under his skin.

Nick
Agreed. But if it's in every post (which it is) you are bound to snap one day. It was a song and he was just trying to talk to his fans when it happened. I'm sure it finally got to him like it does on here at times as well.

It says enough is enough. Why are you following him if you hate him so much? Is he just supposed to let random couch quarterbacks who have never done a thing professionally just take any random shot at him whenever they want?

He doesn't respond to 90% of it and that's the opposite of soft. He's a good man who loves his family and tries to put put a positive message. That's not soft.

Kid has a fragile ego...he's soft like the bitch you claim his troll to be.

The kid takes more abuse from random people than you and I combined ever have. He's not soft no matter how much you hate him or say it over and over.

Look, I have said it for years that there is only one thing on earth I hate...that ****ing Blue Star and everything it represents...so don't attach the "hate" label on me.

No, I do not like Robert Griffin III, fact. I think he is a little whiny bitch and needs to grow the **** up, but I do not hate him. I follow him because he is the projected starter of my favorite football team.

You keep defending him and all he continues to do is make himself look bad. He needs to shut up, and prove himself outside of a gimmick offense. If he was serious about his play on the field, he would do what other greats and other young, up and comers are doing and lay off social media and concentrate on football. Andrew Luck just took his team to the AFC Championship, Russell Wilson just went to his 2nd super bowl...you see either of them use social media to fix a need?

He's insecure, plain and simple. If this were ann isoated incident, it'd be easy to write off. But it isn't. The kid constantly feels the need to defend himself against the haters, which is indicative of someone who is insecure.

It's just one more of a long line of signs that tells me thos kid's emotions and confidence were damaged, quite possibly irreparably, along with his knee. It's a shame. As others have said, this franchise ruined a shony new toy, yet again.

Where El and I differ (probably) is that I think the franchise through leadership void bears a great deal of fault. El might still believe it was an inherrant fault in the young man coming out of college.

Did see some chinks in the armor of Wilson after losing the SB. Seems he's not universally liked in the locker room either.

Shocking!

Robert definitely has taken a different path. But, yet again, if he turns it around, he'll be a called a trend setting trailblazer all over again.

If being liked in a locker room had anything to do with success on the field, the league would have a different history.

Think Theismann was popular? Brady? Aikman? Those guys played great and won games, so being elitist douchebags really didn't matter.

Rex Grossman, now--there was a popular locker room guy.

I couldn't agree more.

Having said that, I am now doubting whether or not he can do it. This social media fixation, when combined with his incessant need to defend himself, paints a poor picture of the student inside the man. As El has said, he should be studying up, working hard to perfect his craft.

(as a side note, I could not care less how much he is on social media. Whatever, it's irrelevant to me. What does matter, however...)

But the responses on social media tell me that he has an incessant need to defend himself. Generally, when people get defensive, they are hard to teach, hard to coach. It's a significant problem, a personality flaw that can be incredibly difficult to overcome. Can he overcome it? Of course he can. But the odds are against him.

He was on his way to the gym to work out and get stronger. How do you know he even has the play book to study up on? He watches film and works out. but no matter how many times he posts it people go back to the same ol argument.

Are you talking to me? I'm confused. My entire point was simply that people who are defensive (often because of their own insecurities) are manytimes difficult to coach or advise because they get defensive when their faults are pointed out, even if it is constructive. I won't be surprised at all if he is studying the playbook religiously, and doing everything he "should" be doing. I just am beginning to wonder if he can be coached, because of his defensiveness.

What is the ratio on attacks to responses? There have been very few back and forth between him and fans on a personal level thru social media. But the attacks are STILL happening and that troll kid was just on sports center!!

I'd say he's pretty cool compared to how most of us would handle it.

The CBA is a roadblock to improvement. Even if he wanted to be out on the practice field, all day, everyday, with the coaches, he can't.

Take out 8hrs for sleeping, and that leaves 16hrs. plenty of time to work overtime at his craft, and still have another life. NOBODY trains 16hrs a day.

And Goal, I have zero doubt that he can improve his game. But none of us know if he will.

Though I believe he will.

I apologize, I'm not explaining myself well. I couldn't care less how much time the kid spends on the practice field vs. on social media. As long as he does what needs to be done to prepare, it's all good. It's a generational thing, this emphasis on twitter and everything else, and that's how he wants to spend his time. Cool. I also do not honestly believe at this point the amount of time he has spent on social media has impacted his preparation or effectiveness even a little bit. Not one iota.

What I'm frustrated with is his REACTION to be criticized, fairly or not, politely or not, constructively or not. He gets defensive. I don't think too many would disagree with that. Defensive people have a hard time accepting coaching when their (literal, in this case) coach tells them they're doing something wrong and they need to make adjustments. Ironically, it usually means they are insecure, but that they spend all day everyday telling themselves they are the best, they are great, etc., building up a façade to protect against the harsh reality that perhaps they could use some improvement here and there, as we all can.

Generally, defensive people are hard to work with, which could possibly explain some of the reported friction between Robert and his teammates. Again, Ax (and Mike) you are correct. If we (he) wins games, none of this matters. At all. Not even a little. Go on a playoff push next year, and we're all talking about upgrading at Nose Tackle this time next year. But given the preponderance of evidence that suggests his narcissism, insecurity and defensiveness, I'm sure he CAN make the adjustments necessary to win those games. No, I take that back. He certainly can make the adjustments, but I'm not sure he is willing to listen.

The good news is that the last two years have to be extraordinarily humbling for the young man, which is what it often takes. If he will not listen to coaching now, I doubt he ever will. If he doesn't, he will be one of those people who goes through life always blaming someone else for their failings. I hope he can turn it around, but the evidence is beginning to suggest otherwise to me.

Slightly delayed in this response, but, you know work...

I keep seeing how "the other QBs aren't doing this stuff, stupid social media needy guy". Well, here's Russell Wilson over the past couple days:

How dare that bastard not focus on football. Doesn't he know he lost the Super Bowl? Doesn't he care? Some leader he is, talking about other things! That's why this chump lost the Super Bowl, is because he isn't working hard enough! Why does he need these motivational things? He needs to get off that thing and study. He posted multiple times today, told us he won't be discouraged. Tell you what, Russell, stop telling us and go win, dammit. You shouldn't need to be telling us how you aren't discouraged, you lost the game![/sarcasm]

Seriously, it's the name of the game. Andrew Luck is the exception, not the rule. None of us have to like the way things are, but to infer horrid things about a guy because he chooses to play the game nearly everybody does, instead of doing things the way we think is "correct", then we are being that crotchety old guy telling the kids to get off our lawn.

Griffin needs to do a better job. No argument. But to blame it on social media is...disingenuous.

I have come to the conclusion that Griffin is somewhat of a mental lightweight. To me, anyone successful in life learns how to manage perception. Perception of who you are, what you're about, what matters to you, what kind of individual you are - it matters. Smart, capable leaders learn how to manage perception. He seems to have zero awareness either of how he is perceived or how to influence others around him in terms of garnering support, even how to avoid being 'misunderstood'.That's a skill leaders have. He isn't a leader IMHO. The biggest problem is that in addition to not demonstrating how to manage the perceptions around him, he hasn't been a good player. Couple not being a natural leader off the field and not leading by example on it with poor play, and I think he's gone in a year (barring a monumental turnaround this season). I don't think he's the rock solid tough guy we thought he was. Maybe if he'd taped himself singing Eye of the Tiger instead of pedophile pop it would've gone better for him :)

Yeah, the only thing I'll add is the handling of the injury was catastrophic for a guy with the lack of intestinal (and mental) fortitude that Griff apparently has. Disastrous, really.

Well, I am not sure if my comments were perceived to "Blame social media", but if you've followed my arguments about RG3 since before we made the trade to draft him, you would see I think he had bust written all over him from the beginning...over rated. This just adds salt to the wound he has become in this town.

The local media will look for anything to jump on, why give it to them? He had a poorly thought out interaction with a fan who said the same thing to him I said a few days ago on Twitter...just stop with the self aggrandizing behavior on social media and focus on more important things. The guy he actually chose to confront seemed rather respectful yet Robert kept coming back at him. He showed the same immaturity, I myself have displayed on this very site. Problem is, I am not supposed to be the leader of a pro football team.

And I don't see Russell Wilson fighting with his "fans" on Twitter. I see a lot of praise to God in those posts. Oh...and he has been to back to back Super Bowls...he puts his money where his mouth is, so to speak.

Since I'm so active on social media perhaps I will take on these trolls. Nothing better than exposing people who just want attention and who hate people they don't even know
