Looks like our aging vet brigade will get thinned quite a bit come off season.
Pick the side of the ball to see where most are.
Mock drafts will lean toward that area.
Hope some of our current young OL develop, don't think it's going to have high priority again unless there is one guy available who can play three positions concurrently at an elite level.

But all I've heard is how much better we are now then 2 years ago as far as the cap is concerned? This makes no sense to me...

I heard today while at work that the FCC announced that they ruled in favor of the Redskins, stating that even though they recognize that "some" people were offended, they themselves found nothing wrong with the name & would continue to allow the use of the name over the airwaves. In a quick overview of the front page, I saw nothing about this. So, is this true? If so, this is a huge win for us.

It is a big win in this current climate. But correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't this expected? Didn't the Skins say this would be overturned because the FCC ruled in their favor in the late 90s on the exact same question.

I believe you're thinking about the Trademark Commission, which, as far as I know, the appeal hasn't happened yet on that. I could be wrong, but I don't remember anything about the FCC in the 90's ruling on this.

So, Colt has a herniated disk in his neck and not a nerve issue. Yet he was allowed to play.

RG III had a very badly injured knee and was allowed to play when he shouldn't have been allowed.

Is this Dr Andrews not doing his job well and just getting a check? Or is something else going on here?

This team has always been in cap trouble, when it looked good following 'the manipulation' is when Mara and the boys stomped on it.

The current group of high priced vets are losing their window of production, mostly to injury. The timing of the cap hit screwed the pooch, might have been able to sign a decent group to fill gaps here and there and field something competitive over the 3-4 year life expectancy of this group of vets and given the young guys a chance to develop.

So now we have a riddled group of declining cap killers, mixed in with group of younger guys looking for their second contract, a handful of youngin's with unknown potential and guys brought in to mitigate injuries. All of them are getting a chunk of the cap.

I don't get how between $9m & $20m we'll be at a disadvantage in FA. Seems like plenty to me. Like Tom said "The Purge" is about to go down on the D-line.

I sure as hell hope Bruce is already thinking about trading down. Multiple 2nds & 3rds would do wonders to both our lines.

I don't see a bad guy here. The doctor cleared him to play and then they took him out. It made a difficult decision easier for Gruden to go back to Griffin and no one can say Colt didn't get a shot to claim the starting spot.

Right, but for some reason I want to remember multiple analysts saying that we're in good shape as far as the cap goes this coming offseason with 'money to spend.' Maybe my mentality is all goofy when it comes to 'money to spend' but $9mil at this very moment doesn't blow my doors off.

the Dr should never have cleared a guy with a herniated disk in his neck....

they also did not take him out. he was injured and had to come out.

There is something weird going on with our medical staff. I'd imagine Andrews had nothing to do with McCoy's decision because that (at least in my case) is evaluated by a neck/spinal specialist, and not an Ortho. I had a herniated disc 2 summers ago and the symptoms are very easily identified. An MRI would show the breakdown of the disc itself. Obviously each case is different depending on factors, but I cant imagine that they didn't see the disc issue LAST week.

Trent Williams needs to be put on the shelf for the rest of the year.

I do NOT think he is done, old, or used up. But his injuries are not healing and he is not helping at LT right now. Rest him up, let him heal up during the offseason, and get back to your spot. Even the great Samuels had injuries.

I agree with your stance on the herniated disc, but did they say when it was herniated? It may have been weakened from the week before and became herniated from the Giants game.

Either way, as I recall the intent was to send McCoy back in if something happened to Griffin, so....

Ahhhh, come on Mike, it's pretty common knowledge a herniated disc can put pressure on nerve. You're reading way, way, way too much into this.

I think it's less about reading into a single situation and more about watching a med staff allow players on the field in compromising situations... i want to say it's not the first time, or just recent incidences that are a little red flag worthy.

I agree, and actually misread Mikes post.... Sorry Mike.

To me, the med staff or Dr Andrews can say no, but it ultimately comes down to the coach to make the call. With Robert, it's been told many times that Robert insisted he was able to go, and talked Shanny into it. With Colt, odds are that the initial injury wasn't a herniated disc in his neck, but a sprain as they said, but weakening it. The hit the following week finished him off, allowing the disc to bulge. Gruden has to go on what he sees in practice, and what the med staff tells him, and make a decision. You just can't simulate the hits in a game on the practice field, so it's a crap shoot. Me, any player with a neck injury gets at least an extra week out just to make sure after cleared to play. Maybe Gruden, out of desperation says what the hell, he's been cleared, and he says he's good to go.

So, is the problem two different coaches just making dumb ass calls with injured players, or is it a product of the organization itself ?
