Random Commanders Thoughts

Yeah Brian, that's kind of where I am. I realize I'm pretty emotional right now, and VERY angry and probably incapable of an impartial judgment, but I'm not sure I want to sit through another two years of this shit to see if maybe Gruden can develop into what we need him to. The procedural penalties are a bad sign, his handling of Griffin over the past two weeks has been a disaster, and I'm not seeing the offensive genius we were promised.

We've been targeting someone on the offensive side of the ball, when what we really need is someone who can bring a culture change to DC. We need a leader more than a coach. Bruce is, by all accounts, a really nice guy, and is swell at PR and everything else, but is not a good talent evaluator and clearly doesn't inspire through leadership. First and foremost, we need a leader. The more I think about it, the more I think it doesn't matter what level of the organization it comes from: player, owner, GM or coach. But we have a noticeable, enormous lack of leadership right now and we're adrift.

Bring in Tony Robbins for crying out loud, give him carte blanch to hire and fire and let him go to work. If they want to keep Bruce on a cap genius, great. If they think under the right tuteledge Gruden can blossom as a head coach, great. We need someone with vision who can impact the organization as a whole, without that we're back to wash, rinse, repeat.

I like Coughlin, and he would probably be a stabilizing influence on this train wreck of a franchise, but he's 68 years old. Unless Gruden flat out quits, we're stuck with him. Snyder's not going to keep paying head coaches NOT to coach the Redskins.

I pretty much feel like we're doomed. Sorry - I'd love to feel differently, but I just don't see any hope on the horizon.

I would be fine with Gruden as the head coach, but it would have to be under the assumption that the front office would have someone like Bobby Beathard to get him the talent he needs. He's shown me enough to suggest he can coach, but we need to have him bring in the crew he needs to coach this team. How many coaches from the previous "failed" regime transfer to his staff? That just isn't how things are supposed to operate...is it?

I was pretty much numb and emotionless watching the game today. I just laughed when we went for it on 4th and half a yard and gave up a sack fumble touchdown, what else could you do? The quarterback position is not the problem, it is the whole ****ing organization, and every one in it.

On that particular play, I have to wonder who is at fault. I watched that play pretty much frame by frame. Both Trent Williams & Paulsen are looking at the last guy on the line, but neither see the guy on the edge. When the ball is snapped, Paulsen attacks the guy on the line & Trent Williams is standing there...just standing there, looking for someone to block. Then, as the guy on the edge (don't know his name) gets past the line & is ready to hit Colt, it's then that Williams looks back at the QB & sees the missed assignment. I don't know if that was an execution problem or a coaching problem, but that kind of thing happens way too often. There is no excuse for our offense to be that lost on blocking.

What, exactly, has he shown you in terms of coaching? He 'talks' like a coach, he 'looks' like a coach, but this team is pretty much a disaster. Turnovers, breakdowns, errors at crucial moments, poor playcalling...I mean what's a coach got to do to qualify as 'bad'? :)

Look - I get all over fans for lacking patience, and ultimately, I'll give Gruden his 3 or 4 seasons to prove me and all the critics wrong. And I'll hope he does. But so far, I'm not impressed. I don't see how anyone can argue he's done even a serviceable job.

Replacing Griffin with colt did nothing. He was sacked 7 times, fumbled 2, for all intents and purposes threw a pick, hesitated, and dumped the ball off. The 358 is a bloated stat that means nothing.

Now, why did both qbs have the same issue? Line? They sucked. Receivers? We saw them lagging. Play calling? Very suspect.

I can sit back and say that Griffin had issues but he was not the problem here. It's deeper than that.

You're right that QB is not nearly our only problem. But Mike - even in a performance that was far from perfect, Colt threw for almost 400 yards and 3 touchdowns. That is night and day from what Griffin has been able to put up recently. It just is. I shudder to think how bad it might have been today if Griffin had been under center.

The difference is San Fran and indy

The defenses are totally different.

I can't help but feel the same way. Everyone has an idea on how to fix this team & turn it around & we seem to go through this every few years. But at this point, there doesn't really seem to be a real, solid, or consistent answer. There are SO MANY problems. It's hard to be hopeful for the future of our favorite team when they look like they do.

Because I have seen breakdown of several games with plenty of evidence that shows his scheme can work. He lacks the talent, plain and simple. The players cannot execute.

If you believe that Griffin would've put up Colt's numbers or even showed 1/10th of the poise Colt displayed out there today, then I want to know :

1: What bar are you at?

2: What are you drinking?

Cause I want a double shot.

At least when he had time, Colt cut it loose. RG3? Not so much......

I'm not even going to respond to you, DP. But I'm sure you can guess what I would say

I don't know, Boone. I think Mike is right here. RG3 wouldn't have had an different a game than Colt, I don't think. The truth is, we can speculate all we want, but none of us have a widow that separates this universe from another where we can gaze in & see just what "might have been".

Either way, the line sucks. Big donkey balls. Big ones. Hairy ones. With dimples. The O-Line sucks. They suck the sweat off of a dead man's balls. They suck balls. Period.

No matter who is under center, we aren't sustaining wins until they fix that. Period.

Sorry for all the "balls" reference, but I can't think of anything that would be worse then sucking balls. And the O-Line does.

This team is disheartening. There are no signs of improvement. I am willing to give Gruden a free pass this year. Mainly due to the mess he inherited.

Bruce Allen and Shanahan are to blame for the mess this roster is in. At least Cowboys are turning things around after drafting 3 good OL. With Shanahan and Allen we got Trent Williams. After that we brought in smaller OL for Shanahan's scheme. Now we are paying the price.

It is getting harder and harder to get over the losses each week.

There's no doubt that RG3 holds the ball too long. If there is anything I have said all along is his biggest issue right now, it's that. But watching other games (Packers/Patriots), I watched Aaron Rodgers standing in the pocket for what seemed like 10 solid seconds, just...holding the ball before he finally threw it away. He would step forward, then backward, then forward, then backward again, but holding onto the ball the whole time. RG3 is not the only one that does it. He just doesn't have the time Aaron Rodgers does that allows him to sit in the pocket & try to make his reads. Our QBs have guys in their face almost right away on every play.

I don't play QB, never really have, but I can only imagine that when you have people trying to take you out every play & the guys who are supposed to be protecting you seemingly can't, that is going to affect how you play. Colt & RG3 are different people so they are going to handle things differently. The protection didn't change at all (which has been one of the arguments that I have read recently that the O-Line blocked better for Colt than they did for RG3-clearly not the case). Protection is something they have ignored for far too long & in order for it to get right will take longer than 1 off-season to fix.

You act like Colt put up astronomical numbers, bottom line is we got the loss. I dare to say that if Colt hadn't look like complete shit when we had the 3 turnovers this would have been a different game. When you are down by 2-3 touchdowns constantly the defense is gonna play softer than normal. Not saying that accounts for everything, but when came out like shit that put us in a huge hole.

Not to even mention what a back breaker the sack fumble touchdown was.

Does anyone else notice how much better Morris was with Griffin, that threat of him running, helps open that up some I think.

He did put up astronomical #'s. He could've played a lot better, but if this was his worst game, it was a hell of a lot better than anything Griffin has done in a long time. Griffin's highest passing yard total this season is 267 yards. He hasn't thrown more than 1 TD in a game this season. He has only had one, that's ONE 300+ yard passing game in the past 18 games guys.

That's not just bad - it's really bad for someone with his physical talents. Something is majorly wrong with Griffin. McCoy didn't play his best, but compared to what Griffin has done in the past year and a half, he was a dynamo. And yeah, we were playing from behind. Just like in every game started by Griffin for the past year and a half.

It was a career game for him, not his worst by any means. He had to put up the best numbers he ever did just to lose, fumble twice, get sacked 7 times, and check down a lot.

He owes Jordan Reed all the credit and should apologize to Jackson for under throwing him yet again and causing an injury. Colt has no strength.

Truth is..they played like the same guy. Both had good plays and both looked Ike shit. But both had the same issues..seems like 358 is confusing people as if it's something worth bragging on.

30-48 427yards, 3 TD's 1 int.

Those are Cousins numbers from the Philly game this year, 1 turnover just like McCoy. We know how that story ended....

Bottom line, we need to actually stick with a QB through the growing pains. Not necessarily Griffin, but someone....

The move to Griffin had to be made. I honestly in my heart want to believe Gruden wanted to put the QB out there that he thought gave us the best chance to win the football game. If he was wrong. So be it... wrong decisions are made. I'm not going to come after Gruden with pitchforks and torches yet. I said in chat that he deserves 3 years, or taking a WR with our 1st round pick. McCoy was able to execute a few things that might give them a better idea of the execution from the other 10 guys on the field. Griffin COULD have put up 300 / 3 / 0 this game but he wasn't in there, so in reality we'll never know. What we DO know is not that much different then what we knew 2 weeks ago and that is that the O-line needs help, the DC needs to be changes, and we need leadership to spark this team. There was lazy play today where WR were literally giving up on the route while the QB was buying himself time. A big part of that falls on Gruden and needs to be addressed.

I do feel like we are seeing a lot of the impact from losing a guy like Fletcher in the locker room. The guy who is going to stand up and get the team motivated. This is where Gruden is going to need to really show me something. Guys got up for the game vs Dallas but that's the extent of it. Flashes of brilliance followed by moments of incompetence. It's infuriating to endure but it's fixable... I thing Gruden has the ability to turn it around over the next year but time will tell.
