Random Commanders Thoughts

I think he'd be fine starting the first half most games, just let him hit the showers at halftime though. Who knows maybe McCoy is good in the 2nd half.

He'll be great in a 4-3 scheme.
Disagree.

If you've got great talent, it shows on the field,no matter where you are.

Take Joe Montana.

Everyone called him a "system" Qb and when he got traded to KC, well....we'll never hear from him again...especially since he'd have Marty as his coach.

But he excelled. Raised the level of everyone on offense there in KC.

Rak raises very little except his hand to get the officials attention so he can complain about not getting a flag.

Please don't make me defend Rak, but he'd be very effective as hand in the dirt pass rusher rather than a guy who has defend passes.

Just saying.
It's late,so I'll just say this:

The guy has only one pass rush move. Tells me all I need to know about his "passion" to be great/ improve his game.

I respectfully disagree.

I don't know. I think to point at one guy who is supposed to be a gamebreaker of sorts & say there's a problem with him in the midst of all the issues that are going on on this team is missing the point. When I see top ranked players like Larry Fitzgerald & Marshawn Lynch running free in the secondary with not a single man covering him until AFTER he's caught a 15 yard pass & starts running down the field, I find it difficult to point at a DL or LB & say, "he's not doing his job."

The announcer for our game this week with Stockton (can't remember his name-former crap QB) was saying that Haslett said they were trying to get help to the secondary by getting pressure on the QB. However, he is failing to help the secondary by also putting CBs at the LOS to disrupt the timing of the plays that they are getting pressure. Haslett has this defense lost most of the time & unable to get off the field at crucial times.

So, forgive me if I'm ignorant to Rak's shortcomings, but it seems to me that it's probably less the player & more the DC.

As for Kerrigan, he is our JJ Watt & no scheme, good or bad, is going to keep him from performing at the highest level. And personally (again, about the DC), I don't think he should ever be covering a RB/WR/TE in space. He's a pass rusher. He should stay a pass rusher. That's just my opinion.

The major problem I've seen with rak was blatantly evident during the game against Seattle where rak crashed down on the play action every single time, allowing wilson to have the whole field to run with. Kerrigan and Murphy adjusted and both made plays as the game went on to contain wilson. Orakpo did not. That doesn't fall on Haslett, that has to be on the player

Hypothetical here...

It's been an assumption that Rak is not coming back this offseason. I don't think he gets the money he wants. Should Allen start (or has he already) making phone calls to try to move him now? Could we potentially eat his contract for the remainder of the year, and turn him into a 1st or 2nd round pick? According to what I've heard, Rak was a sought after commodity to other NFL execs. If I'm Allen, I'm not sure I'm comfortable with him walking possibly to another NFCE team, and us getting nothing in return. Am I completely off-base here?

I think that's a swell idea, ST. I'm just not sure the NFL works that way. If this were the NBA, then heck yeah. But the NFL doesn't seem to like trades that much. If Allen can pull it off though, go for it.

I like the larger idea in play of getting value in return - i.e., whether here or elsewhere Rak is viewed as an upper tier player. You're not off-base IMO. Would you spend that 1st or 2nd on another d-line pass rusher?

DP...I'm with ya on 90+ of your posts recently. and I agree that Rak should be more dominant at this point. but somewhere along the line I also think this is about coaching and surrounding talent. I'm also thinking who do you replace him with? color me biased, but most of the time I watch Murphy I'm not seeing a difference maker. and if that is the case.....why replace one problem with basically the same problem?

Where do you see the parallel between Murphy and Rak? I watcha guy like Murphy push his defender and stay at home while I also watch Rak get carried outside (and held, i understand) as well as watching him crash down on Lynch who's wrapped up, while Russell Wilson has the ball 20 yards downfield. IF Murphy is part of the future plans of this team, or they want to at least give him a shot. Do it sooner rather then later. Murphy is making a heck of a lot less then Rak. If we dont bring Rak back, that's $11+ mil more we have next year then we did this year, with essentially a comparable player in the same position. It's not nearly an $11 mil a year dropoff in execution.

I Rak leaves and we don't "replace" him outside the organization, you better believe Kerrigan gets shifted to that side and Murphy fills Kerrigan's role. Murphy would not be replacing Rak...he'd be replacing Kerrigan. Kerrigan is Rak's replacement.

As for Murphy getting the push you want to see from him, fansince...he is actually getting a lot of push from the edge. He is consistently upfield and like ST has stated, he contains the edge. He pays attention. It is when they line him up at DE on second or third and long that he isn't getting the push. He is under-sized to be trying to rush up the middle, yet we keep putting him in that scheme next to Hatcher and/or Baker. I have even seen him line up next to Hatcher with Rak and Kerrigan on the edges in a 4-3 base. He is wayyyyy too small for that package, especially when he gets double teamed in that scenario.

thats an interesting thought...I never thought of Kerrigan replacing him and Murphy taking the other side. Good take.

Yeah, that's what they did when Rak was out for a few plays.

Edit: Also, to the earlier hypo question. I believe the CBA prevents trading a franchised player during the season. But I'm not really sure.

What about a sign and trade type deal? Is that possible during the season, or am I remembering that a deal cant be cut at this point... If that's the case, Rak might walk, and the NYG would love to have him.

Yeah, that's kind of my unspoken nightmare situation that's been toying around in my head. If he walks for free, I think the GMen make a big push for him. And they tend to know how to get the most from DLine.

Sigh.

I would be less surprised to see him return to Texas.

If they cant afford Ware, they sure as hell aint gonna pay Rak the money he wants. I feared that too, I would just be amazed if they found a way to make that money work. Especially since Jerry is so wrapped up in Johnny Manziel.

I doubt he is that wrapped up anymore after seeing the success his team has had this year. They are winning because he didn't draft Manziel and spent it on OL. I have had this feeling for a year now that Rak ends up in Dallas after the tag is removed. Who knows? Maybe he gets tagged again in the off-season...we've done worse.

add a nice second and 3rd round pick sounds appealing. Raiders perhaps. I would love to see that.
