Random Commanders Thoughts

Cooley is backing off Polumbus now, expects Compton sometime soon if the TE situation gets straight, Moses is not ready yet in his opinion.

Has there been any reference to Long maybe jumping in at RT...or is he an interior only guy?

This Jameis Winston is incredible. I know some question his maturity. They were wrong on Kelvin Benjamin too.
But I don't see how we're going to be in a position to get him.

'Some question his maturity...'???? Are you kidding me - the kid is a disaster. I don't give a shit how good an athlete he is, NFL teams are going to be very wary of this guy. And Kelvin Benjamin was never considered a 'problem player', was he? Only questions on him were lack of elite speed, lots of drops, and shaky route running, 2 of the 3 being correctable.

No one has ever questioned Winston's physical skills, it's everything else that's concerning. If the Redskins draft that turd, I'm moving on and good luck with this site :)

Haven't heard anything on Long, Cooley has been down on Lauvao for a while and predicted he would be benched for performance before he was injured, the next man up.. "leRib" needs to step up, he feels leRib did OK aside from that one play when he was planted on his butt. He also thinks Chester has been OK so far, similar to 2012.

Cooley does a weekly film study grading performances using his own scale. He started backing off Polumbus after the Philly game, couldn't get his normal good run blocks going and was a wreck on pass pro.

Cooley hasn't done his review of the Giants tape yet but from the booth he saw the same problems again with Polumbus.

I'm not downing Cooley or anything, but does a career at TE really qualify a player as some kind of offensive line expert? I'm not saying he doesn't have insight, certainly more than the average fan, but I'd probably take the assessment of a long-time HS O-line coach over a players...

Maybe I'm wrong on that, dunno...

There's a decent chance that he'll be in our future. If RG3 gets hurt again this season, and Kirk doesn't look like a sure thing, I'd grab him in a second.

That is, if he avoids any more stupid incidents the rest of the year.

Are you talking about Jameis? I would follow John out the door. Kid is incredibly gifted, but a complete dumbass. Someone will take a shot on him, and then have to feign shock when he does something stupid. I hope to God it's not the Skins. He's a complete knucklehead.

Yer right Boone, Cooley is just another talking head now but he does take the time to look at actual game tape and offers up his take based on his knowledge of the game.

He also does a show with Gruden where he breaks down a play or two and Gruden critiques Cooley's break down.....Cooley's been pretty much spot on each time.

Cooley is a self proclaimed 'homer' but I feel some of the stuff he comes up with is a lot more on point than most other 'insider info' that I've experienced.

There's a ton of time left this season and so much can still happen.

As far as people leaving? It will never happen. We're all here. I heard similar comments at the beginning of last year when some wanted to retain the Shanahans.

I'd just keep an open mind.

We draft any QB in the next draft, with the shambles the OL ,DL and secondary are in, then Bruce is no better than Vinny and this club is truly sunk.

That's dependent upon what could still unfold.

If RG3 god forbid, blows out a knee again and Kirk doesn't appear to be the answer, then without question you draft him immediately.

But there's still so much time left and I'm not counting out either of our QBs.

Thanks Tom, appreciate all the local tidbits you guys provide.

As far as TyPo goes I'd bet his own family is yelling "bench him" during the game.

No. You don't. Do you watch the news Mike? Winston has red flags all over him - at a time when the NFL is going through it's worst player behavior PR disaster ever. He'll be lucky if he's drafted at the rate he's going. And whoever does draft him, they better hope to God he gets some sense knocked into that thick skull of his.

The guy is a complete and utter knucklehead. Period.

I like Cooley - I'm not discounting his take. He's a very smart guy for an NFL player. I just genuinely wonder if he really knows what he's looking at in terms of OL play. His 'Polumbus is better than you think' argument really raises an eyebrow...

And that is where this team has screwed it up the last twenty years.

We have the skill positions covered. We may even have the Qb if he can get back on the field.

None of that matters because we have nothing upfront that allows them to operate.

Mark Rypien and Doug Williams make Logan Paulsen look like Carl Lewis when it comes to running but yet they both lead us to glory.

The one constant that allowed Gibbs to work his offensive magic and remain a perennial contender was his Oline.

We can keep changing coaches,QBs,RBs and wideouts all we want. until we commit to building a stout line, we are going no where.

For twenty years plus, this team has ran away from that philosophy. That needs to change if Snyder and Co. ever want to get serious about winning.

I absolutely agree with you DP. That's why I advocated for the ALL OL draft this year :)

Winston is no dummy. He got into Stanford.

He also has a 3.8 GPA with an actual schedule of classes.

Is he a stupid kid with poor behavior? Yes.

A lot will depend on how clean he can stay the rest of the year. But barring another incident, I'd expect him to be the first QB taken.

2 out of 3 ESPN Sportsnation voters think Cousins will have a better career than RG3?

Until Kirk wins a division title, you really can't say that.

You can't. But until RG3 can play an entire season, you really can't say the opposite either.

I wouldn't rule Winston out if we have a top three pick - and that could happen. He is a pocket passer and plays in a pro-style offense. Yeah, some things bother me, but none of it is on the football field.

Let's not forget about the other QBs in this upcoming draft...

Marcus Mariota
Sean Mannion
Brett Hundley

But you can't overlook what Winston is at this juncture.
