Random Commanders Thoughts

Yeah, how crazy that Culpepper's stats fell off after Cris Carter and Randy Moss left.

except Willis McGahee, Revis, Danario Alexander, Jamaal Charles, Carson Palmer, and that one guy up in New England...but, I mean, who is he? Tom something or other.

I have no idea about how many of those guys suffered 2 ACLs. Did they suffer only one, or two each?

Not trying to kick any hornet's nest, I really have no interest in that. Seriously, none.

I'm just trying to compare apples to apples. I know Willis M got absolutely crushed in the bowl game against Ohio State, and he's had a great career. I also remember Carson Palmer getting crushed. I'm not sure if he was ever the same. But again, I don't know if they had two ACLs, or just that one devastating hit.

Meh.

I'm worried about the knee too, but I think McD5 is overstating things. Culpepper looked like crap before he got hurt. And that was ten years ago.

I'm not writing him off, or screaming that the world is over by any means.

I'm just surprised at how often I see people assume that he'll return back at 100%. Like it's some forgone conclusion. Like it would be the norm.

Lord knows that if others have done it, and they have, that he has a great shot due to his work ethic and dedication. He's an amazing athlete.

I also have faith that our current coach would have pulled him in that Seattle game, and that he'll put him in a position to succeed.

I'll add that the brace probably caused some of his inaccurate passing. I hope. :D

Not if his knee affects his throwing motion, causing him to overthrow receivers like last season. Then he would become the next Vince Young.

He might also become the next Tom Brady, who's been a solid :betterwink2: QB that had a serious injury and repair of his knee.

The good news is that he's been working with his old QB coach, and that our new HC is a quarterback specialist. He also has some great weapons surrounding him. He has every single tool he needs to succeed.

Not every single tool. Unproven offensive line.

Peterson's recovery was part of the problem. RG3 felt he could do the same freaky thing as Peterson did. He was wrong. Should have stayed out all of last year.
I want you to be right badly. Very, very badly.

A recovery like Adrian Peterson is almost unheard of in this league--it's why it was so incredible.

I certainly didn't expect him to recover like Peterson did. I don't believe any NFL player has before.

It's always easy to see what's right after it has happened.

Not one person wasn't hoping or excited that he was coming back like a freak.

Terry allen came back from 2 torn acls and a second on the same knee, its just rare.

With Rg3 you have the concern that his startling speed has always been his x factor, without it, he will have to develop mch better pocket habits and he cant throw off his back foot like last year. he might lose a step, hell he could lose 2-3 steps and still be effective if he develops the ability he showed in his first year.

what we need is to have a legit Oline, lick is maybe 5-11 and 285, thats friggin tiny in a conference with some huge Dts. thank god nobody else is running a 3-4 anymore in the east. we could accelerate rg3 development by making sure we put a real oline in front of him, if we stay with what we have, I think hes hurt by week 6

Good point Ryman. Lets not forget that even hobbled, Bob was an effective QB against the Eagles, Cowboys and Seahawks before his knee totally collapsed. Even slowed down, with decent protection and a good running game he'd be ok.

McGahee had the trifecta all at once, IIRC, in the Fiesta Bowl. That same ACL was torn in High School, so that was twice before he even got to the NFL... not including all three ligaments going in the Fiesta Bowl. Tore his MCL and had a fracture a year or two ago, but he had been in the league ten seasons by that point.

I think Shanahan mishandled the situation. He should have had him practice some before throwing him out there. From practice he could determine if he was ready to start. To me you could quickly see that he was not ready last year. I am not talking about hindsight being 20/20, I am talking about carefully examining in practice before putting him into game situations.

Yep. In retrospect, this is one of the things I was least impressed with Shanahan about. Either he lacked the acumen to correctly judge Robert's health and throwing ability during practices, training camp, preseason, etc, or he was too ball-less to do anything about it. Either way, pretty shoddy coaching.

I'm sure he did to the extent it was possible. I agree with you, but also remember that Griffin did the TV special on his epic effort to come back. I would be curious to know if he talked to any of the coaches or front office before doing that - as that alone put a tremendous amount of pressure on the organization to let him come back early.

It's hard to make judgments without knowing exactly how it all went down.

That's exactly my point. He had this television show that showed him breaking workout records, he had come thru the surgery so great, Dr Andrews cleared him, etc, etc, etc. He looked for all intents and purposes like he was ready to get back on the field and play.

I think the brace got to him just as much as coming back too early. I think it messed with his mind and that it caused him to second guess if he could do things he normally does just as much as still healing.

Training camp is almost here people - holy cow - starting to get excited for a new season and the start of the Gruden era!
