i've heard reports where they'd actually make one of the opening round games a Monday Night Football game.

I tell you one thing. If the Redskins went 13-3 and lost an opening round playoff game to a 7-9 team because of a bad call or a once in a lifetime performance by a scrub on the other team my first comment would be that they didn't earn being in the game at all.

I highly doubt the first round would consist of a 1 seed playing an 8. In an 8 team per conference format I would imagine seeding something like 3-8, 4-7, 5-6. That would give them 3 marquee games for each conference... it would be tough to schedule them though, given the fact that they would be hard pressed to find a schedule that has no games overlapping. I guess they could do 2 games Saturday, 3 games Sunday, 1 game Monday... since college games would be finished.

The other (more logical) option is to only add 1 more team per conference, meaning 7 teams per conference. Then you could have 'wildcard weekend' where in each conference the 6 plays the 7 to see who advances on to play the 1 seed the following week OR you could seed them out 2-7, 3-6, 4-5.

That's probably what they'll do, except the 1 seed would end up with two bye weeks (unless as tshile suggested, they do a Monday night play-in before wild card weekend). Winner of 6 vs 7 would play 3, 4 vs 5 would still happen also.

how so? no. 1 seed has a bye, 2-7, 3-6, 4-5 play on the first week, winner of 2-7 vs winner of 3-6 and 1 seed vs winner of 4-5 or whichever variation you choose

So you'd take away a bye from the 2 seed? That would work, but would piss teams off.

2 different scenarios... hence the "OR"

the first scenario being 'less logical' because it would essentially give 1-5 a first round bye

the FO's thoughts/agenda/plan is starting to become a little clearer to us fans.

the moves to acquire guys noted not only for their performance on defense/offense, but also for the special teams contributions, tells us they think special teams contributed significantly to the 3-13 season. hard to argue with that, we had either the worst or close to the worst average starting field position in league history. hard to be successful when you can't win the field position battle.

haslett getting to run the defense the way he wants... griffin healthy, with no brace, in a new offensive scheme... a couple of key acquisitions to compete for spots on the defense and offense... beefed up special teams...

many people have said this, i think it's worth repeating. this 3-13 team may not be quite like majority of 3-13 teams (or similar) and there might be a significantly better team in Washington than many are giving credit for.

This team has a core of younger players who have shown they can be effective. Most have simply not been consistent enough.

Morris, Garçon, Young, and Trent for the most part have been.

Griffin has not been in large part due to injury.

Perry Riley, Orakpo, Baker, Amerson, Reed, Forbath and Helu are guys that have talent but need to come in and put up a solid 16 game season in 2014.

Other younger guys like Jenkins, Rambo, Compton, Gettis, Hankerson, Robinson and Philip Thomas need to show they belong.

I agree that in 2013 the mismanagement of the special teams was disastrous. Washington held onto Rocca too long at age 39. A number of players on teams didn't take their roles seriously enough and Cooley showed on the film breakdown that guys simply didn't play fundamental coverages well.

Burns takes heat for this but so does Mike.

If Josh Morgan or Nick Barnett was dogging it on special teams because they were sulking about not getting regular reps they should have been cut.

These guys produced close to zero for the team in 2013 otherwise.

So, why have them around?

I'm really excited to see Griffin play behind a better Oline and a full off season to develop. I'm very pleased to see Griffin is keeping a low profile unlike some athletes in a similar predicament....I still believe he's one of those special kind of players.

I heard Moss say he was going to be there, and a radio show up here mentioned Garcon/Robinson I believe. I have to imagine that Roberts will be there, especially if he hasn't made his way this direction yet.

A media head over here mentioned he shouldn't have said "i'm not wearing the brace" and that it's the same chatter that started last year. I however agree with you that what he said is not a boisterous statement and that he's been keeping low this offseason, hopefully working.

I had no issue about Griffin saying he doesn't plan to wear the brace. That was my understanding that he would wear it all last season and that was part of the conditioning plan. So that was a non story.
