Right, but I mean how that money is spread out, how much of it's guaranteed ... that sort of thing. I'm curious to see if we backloaded it with a big signing bonus, at least I hope we didn't.

That said, I think we can plainly see that three straight 8-8 seasons have taken their toll and Jerry's 'we-are-one-player-away' window has slammed shut. They have no cap room down there to sign anyone, so resigning their own guys to middling contracts seems like some crazy notion from another planet. I remember the Redskins being there, and hopefulyl we'll never do that again.

I know this is a sidebar...but the Iggles and Broncos have been on spending sprees over the last few years...how is it they haven't been strapped like the Girls? what are they doing different in their contracts?

I know this is a sidebar...but the Iggles and Broncos have been on spending sprees over the last few years...how is it they haven't been strapped like the Girls? what are they doing different in their contracts?

Well, both are paying relatively cheap contracts to their QBs. Manning's cap hit is the 7th highest in the league, which for the best QB in the league is a pretty good deal. Also, his dead money drops dramatically next year so I don't think they have to plan for years down the road with him. They are definitely in 'win now' mode.

Nick Foles's cap hit is 46th amongst QBs, and it won't be any higher next year.

That, and the Cowboys are one of the most fiscally irresponsible teams in the history of professional sports ...

good points. so you're saying that flexibility is driven by QB salaries. Denver benefits by an unusual circumstance (Manning's injury) and Philly benefits because their QB is inside his first 4 years. Not tangling with ya...but by this reasoning (which is good) the Skins should also have a great deal of flexibility. I ask the question cuz the Iggles have recovered very quickly from their huge dream team expenses just a few years back. I like what you are implying:

- the Iggles did pay a price with their bad season

- the Iggles turned it around fast largely because they weren't strapped with a big QB salary

those seem like a good foundation though I would add in the Iggles also turned it around fast because Reid et al left them with a core of top tier talent to work with...especially on offense. in short, our problem is more daunting because we didn't/don't have that core.

I truly believe its a generational thing. I am up for a little smack talk (shocker, I know) but these guys beat their chests so much I am shocked they don't go in to cardiac arrest!

At least they were respectful enough to shut up when DG came on and stopped them. But I am not even sure why they brought him up to begin with.

He may not have been a smack-talker, but Green certainly wasn't/isn't short on ego.

yeah there's a really interesting issue going on in the league with QB contracts and how they impact the team, especially over the long term.

barring another serious injury, Griffin's going to demand top dollar and he's going to get it from us. It'll probably be the biggest contract ever given. By that time I'm assuming it'll be in the 120+ mil range. His whole contract will almost be the equivalent of one year's salary cap.

And we'll all want to keep him, and we'll say he's worth it, but our team will suffer when it comes to talent acquisition potential because we'll have this enormous contract on our books.

That said, Sherman has to be the most insecure athlete on the planet. The guy is talented and successful and he can't seem to just be happy with that. Unless everyone kisses his feet all the time he whines like a little *****.

I know some of you have had bad personal experience with Green, but man, those two really need to take notes from the Hall of Famer. If you've got nothing to prove, stop trying so hard to prove it. Good grief.
