though the league is trying to make winning the division irrelevant by adjusting seeding based on record.

because too many people cried that the 7-9 seahawks got to host a playoff game and beat the saints.

i personally think that's lame and they should keep it the way it is - otherwise winning the division does literally become meaningless :|
 
Folks - I have been watching the Capitals win their division 5 of the past 6 years. If you don't win the championship at some point it doesn't mean a whole lot.

It still means plenty. And you're comparing apples and oranges; winning a division consistently over 82 games is much easier than over 16, as each game is much less important.

Collins got 5 years, $30M with $15M guaranteed from the Bucs. Seems very reasonable to me, I'm surprised we were not more competitive in signing him.

We forget players have a choice in which team they accept an offer from :) We could have offered any number if free agents bigger cash and they decided this wasn't where they wanted to play. It could even be due to things like their wife not wanting to live in a certain area. It's not always about our front office's ineptitude or no one wanting to be a Redskin (not that you said it was - just saying).

True. Maybe Gruden doesn't like him, maybe they didn't even make him an offer? Who knows.

I'd be interested to see how many times a player has chosen location over money. Probably an impossible task, though. Maybe I'm just skeptical, but nobody had a problem signing here when we were 4-12 but throwing huge contracts around. :)

The Bucs seem to have an inexhaustible amount of cap room.

I can't help it but after the backlash towards DC for signing free agents several years ago, I hope Tampa and Denver fall flat on their faces.
 
Vince Wilfork has asked for his release from New England. I know he's old, but he's still a monster, and NT is definitely a need position. If it's not a ridiculous contact, I'd bring him in. Would instantly make our entire D better.

22.25 UN-SIGNING! Brandon Browner’s agent reports that Browner is not even close to a deal and is in negotiations with four teams. Earlier today it looked like there was interest from both Washington and New Orleans to go along with the Patriots. We will keep you posted when we hear more.
22.20 SIGNING! Cornerback Brandon Browner has struck a two year deal with the New England Patriots per Ian Rapoport. He was one of very few players to have more passes defended than games played during the 2013 season. Once he serves his four game suspension, he will need to compete for playing time with Logan Ryan, Alfonzo Dennard and Kyle Arrington for playing time opposite Darrelle Revis.

Right, but I mean how that money is spread out, how much of it's guaranteed ... that sort of thing. I'm curious to see if we backloaded it with a big signing bonus, at least I hope we didn't.

That said, I think we can plainly see that three straight 8-8 seasons have taken their toll and Jerry's 'we-are-one-player-away' window has slammed shut. They have no cap room down there to sign anyone, so resigning their own guys to middling contracts seems like some crazy notion from another planet. I remember the Redskins being there, and hopefulyl we'll never do that again.
