Random Commanders Thoughts

With the McVay promo, we've got a very young team. The players have gotten younger, Gruden is 46, McVay is 27.... 27!!!! We wanted to get younger and we did... very quickly. Cooley as talking about McVay today on the radio and said that all of the coaches/coordinators he used to challenge with technicals, McVay was the only one who stood up to it. Cooley would have fun with guys talking x's and o's and he said McVay at his young age was one of the most intense and knowledgeable football minds he had ever been around.

In addition to that we are supposedly bringing Earnest Byner in on Friday to interview for the RB coach position.

I like it... A LOT. Both of these guys are first timers so there might be some growing pains, but now we are going to have a young core growing with a young staff... I dont know if this is the same as before, but this feels good. Labeled GM, Young up and coming HC, and OC who players believe in, and potentially an RB coach with experience, as well as hometown ties.

I guess I'm drinkin the Kool-Aid :)
 
I wonder if London Fletcher will hang around to be some sort of coach? Any info on that? That is an upstanding role model for younger players without a doubt.

No way the coaching fraternity would every let him be more than some sort of assistant.

Well I hope not...a good player does not necessarily make a good coach. He's got zero experience. But starting off as an assistant here wouldn't be bad for anyone.
 
He kind of shit all over the idea of keeping Haslett when those rumors started coming out, didn't he?

Not sure how well that would work out. Though Haslett may be an assistant and not DC anymore, so maybe it doesn't even matter...

Yeah, he made it clear that his opinion was Haslett was the primary reason the D struggled last year. However if Shanahan was micro-managing, London may not have been fully aware as to how much so. Maybe he was, and thinks Haz was a vageeen for not standing up to him? Who knows.


EDIT: In any case, not a good omen for working with him on the same staff.

I'm beginning to believe Allen as GM are allowing input from Coach Gruden on the hiring and firing of the remaining staff. They might have someone in mind to replace Haz, but his team is still alive in the playoffs and can't make a move...it's possible?

It's not a terrible idea. I think alot of their previous problems were the GM. Ryan obviously knows how to coach defense. The Jets D has never been the issue. They blew it on Sanchez and now have to hope Geno is the answer. I don't know if he is, but they need to get more around him.

I was hoping the Jets would be bad so then Ryan would be fired and he could come here and be our DC, but that didn't work out.
 
Byner coming here I think is evidence of a shift at least in part in the run game to more of a power attack.
 
Well, the 49ers bought Harbaugh to fill a need. No one seems to have a problem with that move.
