Just found this tid-bit of info, that I and many of others, have been looking for answer to...

Tanard Jackson filed for reinstatement on Saturday (August 31st) – the first possible day – but the NFL didn’t act immediately, and isn’t expected to for a while. The last time Jackson was suspended for a year, the league didn’t reinstate him until four weeks after he was eligible to do so.

Mixed feelings on Orakpo.

It's true that he's not shown much development in his young career; his level of effectiveness today is pretty much what it was his rookie year. If he was going to become a monster--the dominant, Pro Bowl level impact player many thought he could be, logic suggests he would have done so already. Or at least be well along the road there. It's reminiscent of LaVar, a little. All the physical gifts one can ask for, but something missing as a football player.

On the other hand ... he's miscast. Plus he's playing for a DCoordinator who seems unable to raise the level of either individuals OR the unit. There remains a level of curiousity about what kind of impact player Orakpo could become as a classic DE in a 4-3 ... or perhaps even as a 3-4 OLB in a unit crafted and coordinated by a top flight proven DC--someone who could max out the skills he does possess. Because I just don't think he's ever been put in position to excel based on his skill set, or had the benefit of a teacher who might have gotten him to the next level.

As of today my guess is the Redskins will have a new DC in 2014. Whether or not that individual and Brian Orakpo have a chance to take the measure of one another, and find out just what the player really is capable of, will be something worth watching closely this coming off season.
 
I can't say I disagree with any of that Om...other than I don't really want to take the chance...even if he slips through the season w/out any major injury. We will have plenty of money to sign a young DE stud who has proven more in the 3-4 scheme. Is Clay Matthews available? :laugh: Just kidding people!
 
He's also coming off a major injury and long layoff. We're willing to cut Griffin slack for just about any growing pains secondary to injury, but with Orakpo it's not even mentioned. Not saying their circumstances are identical, but it is something we should keep in mind.
 
It will be interesting to see if Shanahan checks his ego at the door this offseason, and scraps the 3-4 and brings in a 4-3 defensive mind. Maybe Gus Bradley will get fired after one, miserable season in Jacksonville (they've scored what, 13 points this year?) and we can bring him in.

That's a great point. Although Rak had a much longer recovery time, and also played in all four preseason games (I believe). But yeah, he should get at least a little bit of a pass through 3 games...but if he doesn't light up the damn Raiders, we're gonna have a problem. :)
 
I can't help but think that Rak is partially the victim of bad coaching and I don't mean Haz. Bob Slowick has never impressed me. I have wonder if he isn't the owner of the worlds only working Shanahan voodoo doll or maybe photos of Mike getting spray tanned by a clown. The guy has next to nothing on his resume to impress anyone. His defenses in Denver are the reason Shanahan is now coaching here in Washington and his time as our DB coach is why Morris now has a job.

Our 'backers have taken a large step backward since Spanos left for UCLA.
 
wow I'm driving into San Francisco listening to Steve young hon AM radio and he's basically saying the pistol offense is over defense is have caught up to spend their whole offseason trying to figure out the pistol offense.

It's a great listen if anybody can find Steve Young audio archives for AM radio Cisco today it's a great great listen he's very concerned about the Forty Niners says that they're having the exact same problem Robert Griffin is having

That NFL Philosophy guy on twitter is saying the same, and using a bunch of stats to back it up. I'm trying to understand how they are defending it differently.
 
Nothing like analysing a trade like that 3 games into a franchise qb's second year.

I woke up this morning in a panic because of the nightmare I had last night! I dreamed that Griffin broke his leg early in the Raiders game, and Cousins came in and could not complete a pass...... Hopefully tomorrow Griffin is going to light it up so I can forget about that. What a horrible way to start the day
