Random Commanders Thoughts

It looks more and more that Rak will never be more than a decent OLB. We've been waiting for "another move" to add to his "straight at you" speed rush, since we drafted him. he has missed significant playing time the passed two years, and his first year was in a different system. But if someone were to make a decent offer before the trade deadline, we should consider it.

Ideally, he'll catch fire and we'll all be hoping we sign him long term. But the evidence suggesting such a scenario seems thin right about now.

who do you replace him with?

Getting rid of Rak would make this terrible defense even worse.
They are playing as bad as at any time last year. No Rak, and won the division.

After the bye, LB by Committee. Just like last year.

Before we go any further with this, please note that trading Rak is not my preferred desire. But he is getting elite pay, for average play.

I hope he sets the league on fire from here out. But I would suspect Vegas would bet the under.

agree that he is one dimensional in many respects. on flip side, I don't think the Skins can afford to tube a first round pick. they need to keep pressing for greater value/production from Rak.

Agreed. I hope he plays All-Pro ball from here on out. But, if he doesn't, I see it heading toward him wanting another elite contract, anyway. Based on his first three games, he doesn't deserve it. I suspect he will walk, after the season, if he doesn't get it. It's a calculated risk, for sure. but we may want to entertain getting something now, verses nothing later. He can put all this talk to rest with a repeat of his last performance against the Raiders, this time around.

Wasn't that a 3 sack game for him?

Hard to argue with this...I want to, but its very hard. :(
I know. I hate even thinking it.

Come on Rak, SACKS UP!!!

I think Rak brings a lot to the table, but you're absolutely right. They did it without him last year. If they can ship him off for a RT or OG/OC, I think they have to take the deal.

We should have shopped him in the off-season! I know he was coming off injury, but we could have gotten at least a 2nd round pick for him and I would have taken it. Brian Orakpo is done in DC. Damn shame too! Had we stayed in a 4-3 he probably could have been a far better player and our defense would have probably been better. By default our offense would have been better because we wouldn't have had to completely tear down the defense and rebuild it...just partially to replace older players! My name is Ryman and I support this message!!

I don't think we could have gotten a 2nd for him last year. We'd be lucky to get a 4th right now.

Plenty of us believed the switch to the 3-4 was wrong, and said so. rak still would have been a one trick pony, but that one trick tends to do better out of the 4-3.

Regardless, it's spilled milk.

I was about to ask if Ryman had hacked your account...

Drew Brees has been sacked 10 times this season, Jay Cutler has only been sacked 3 times. The difference? Aaron Kromer, OL coach. He was with New Orleans last year, he's with the Bears this year.

Dear Danny, fire up the dump truck full of money!

I don't think Rak brings doodley squat to the D. He doesn't draw a double often, and is gassed far too often and has to be spelled. He's missed as many tackles as Rambo thus far, and flat out sucks in coverage.

He's peaked, and should be shipped out to the highest bidder running the 43. If he makes it through the season, I'd give him nothing more than a 1 year extension that's incentive based.

His production will not increase. Ya, he'll likely make some plays against the worst teams, but he just doesn't cut it against the better O lines out there.

He's a wasted roster spot IMO. The media hype is amazing being he makes a difference from time to time, not on a regular basis.

I'll take economy over the name brand.....

No idea if this is true: listening to SPorts Junkies this morning and they were playing excerpts from Smoot's comments yesterday in which he basically stated that Shanny should be gone after the season ends. As part of the discussion someone passed that there are people who claim to have Redskins sources who pass that Griff had told the coaches he wants to be a Manning-like drop back/pocket passer. no idea if this is true - but, if so, it certainly has big implications for the coaching staff, scheme, etc.

It been in the press more then once that his father has made a big push in that direction. Robert himself, I don't see it. He knows what it will take to win right now, and a pocket passer isn't the answer with our line.

If things don't change drastically soon, our game against Peyton is going to be a horror movie

Ya never know... he's blamed us for his injury, so maybe we can knock him out of the game early, and give him more to bitch about.

But, to knock him out of the game, that would mean our defense would then have to learn how to apply pressure, tackle, and sack - which is the whole reason that game looks so scary against someone like PM
