Have you guys seen the female referees terrible call on the Duke Johnson fumble? You can clearly see Johnson holds the ball in the air, but the female referee rules the Redskins recovered it. The NFL "Finds no fault" in the play? WTF? That ref threw too many flags, she was horrible.

That was a terrible call. Overdefended by the NFL as well. Amazing it was in our favor though, usually it seems as if they aren't.

Was that the ref throwing the flags for lining up in the neutral zone all the time? I can't remember the last time I heard a penalty called for offsides on the offense, but it seemed like it happened twice that game.

Green Bay won, 28-14, in Week 8 of the 2004 season. The victory was the Packers' third in a row and it evened their record at 4-4. Washington had a go-ahead touchdown by Clinton Portis taken away because wide receiver James Thrash was called for illegal motion with 2:35 left. Al Harris intercepted Mark Brunell on the Redskins' next play and the Packers drove for an insurance touchdown.

You would think, that Johnson would have gone crazy protesting, if it was that clear that he recovered the ball. But he doesn't protest in the slightest. Just casually walks away, after just lifting the ball up.
Makes me wonder if he stole the ball away, AFTER all of the following occurred : a Redskin grabbed the ball, and it was confirmed by the official, and the Redskins was then ruled down.

Can't think of specific games or teams but I know that I've seen several called fumbles stick even after someone outside the scrum was holding the ball...... never could figure those out either.


At this juncture, don't really care, the call was made and had it gone against us, I'd have groused some about it but ultimately it's the nature of the game, want perfection in football stick with Madden, at least some of the 'bugs' can get cleaned up in that one.

Watched that sequence again last night, and while it sure looks like we got away with one--or at least that it appeared that way based on the available angles--I was struck by how little the Browns protested. Johnson, Hue Jackson, the bench in general, all appeared to simply roll with it. Pryor looked pissed, but he was the only one I saw, and it looked like he was being shushed by his teammates on the sideline.

Makes ya wonder a bit. Hue Jackson never really struck me as a shrinking violet.

Basically, all of the available TV angles we've seen of the inside of the scrum suck - and perhaps we should admit that the ref had the best perspective on the recovery.

Oh my God, I can't believe you brought that up. That specific moment of that specific game sticks in my craw as the single-worst screw-over the Redskins have ever suffered at the hands of the officials. To this day when I think of that call I get tight in the chest.

Frankly, if we are going to recognize getting some bad calls our way I'd have to nominate both of the PI calls that Jackson drew. Given that one of them came after an equally sh**ty holding call against Scheff, I'd just chalk it all up to all-around lousy officiating, and enjoy the win.

Ugh, me too. Not sure why that one stands out so much, but oh boy does it. That may have been the most mad at a ref I can remember being.

I'm pretty sure that's the game I threw a red marker at wall about; so in that house we had a nice red splotch on the wall over the sofa.

Looks like Duke reached in and grabbed it out. not like a bounce and its back in his hands as sites are decribing it. NFC championship game detriot fumbles the ball the scramble for the ball dexter manley, charles mann or Wilbur marshall has the ball in the endzone while the refs are searching the pile for the ball. Skins ball at the 40 or wherever they recovered.

Gotta admit, it was kind of Three Stooges-type comical, to watch a pile of Redskins fighting over a ball that didn't exist in the pile.

More a testament of how far the NFL will go to cover up the obvious mistake by the 1st female ref. I don't care that she is a referee, just that she was bad most of the day, and the NFL came up with some Hilary Clinton style BS to suggest we are wrong for suggesting it was a poor call.

Not that I'm interested.
But it would be weird for our 2 inside LB's to consist of Sua and Sio.

Replay needs to be recast so that it is a rolling procedure and the ref in the booth looks at each play as it is called and executed.

The huge volume of inconsistent on-field calls demand that we move to a more automatic system, rather than taking the time to have a coach challenge by throwing a flag and then having the on-line official review the call down on the field.

If we aren't going to make replay a more consistent part of getting things right then we might as well end replay all together and just let the refs call the game and accept the mistakes.

This. The Browns knew what was up. Nobody acted surprised.

This 3.9 grade for Reyes who played football for UConn, is almost like saying that he wouldn't even start at UConn right now.

And 11 minutes later? Kendall Reyes cut per Mike Jones.

I love Scot, but maybe a second opinion on offseason FAs might help moving forward.

We should probably also lower the volume on the "Fire Barry" chants from 8 to 6, and instead start to question some of this talent that's being brought in.
