Halls commentary on the D has me very, very excited.

I hate when I get excited at this time of year though. History has made me her bitch in that regard.
 
On the radio couple of days ago Scot did an interview and one of the topics got into red chip, blue chip players. He feels we need to get about 10 more red chips in the fold to be 'competitive' and the blue chips will come along and develop through the draft.

He considers Kirk to be a blue chip........now can we get excited about that?

Of course the conversation evolved into why they didn't sign Kirk long term... Scot feels it will get done and acknowledges that if Kirk has a good year the price will go up but with the cap increasing and the acumen of the guys putting together these contracts along with the ownership willing to do what it takes to win he doesn't see a problem with it.
 
You can't do it all in one or two offseasons, not with from the position of talent deficit that Scot faced when he took this job.

We didn't have a first round pick in 2013 or 2014 and our 2012 first round pick ended up riding the bench. Bruce's last draft wasn't bad, but Trent Murphy was what the draft-niks said he was, a guy who fit in to the NFL as a 4-3 defensive end.

Now, with Scot as GM Trent is being moved to that position in 2016.

The defense will be better. I wanted some additional attention to the DL, but you can't argue with the effort to defend the pass.

Josh Norman and Greg Toler are veterans who come from winning organizations. Kendall Fuller was projected to be a #1 pick before being injured his last year in college.

Perhaps the defense's greatest weakness - defending tight ends in the middle of the field - was addressed with the Cravens pick.

If he can become a cover linebacker in the mold of Monte Coleman that would be a huge step up for this unit.

Guys like Jason Witten and Brent Celek have abused the Redskins in the NFC East for years.

This I don't get.
We won the division, earning a home playoff game last year. Is that not already competitive ? Do people believe it was a fluke ?
Our roster is already better than it was when it won the division, so how can we be so many players away from "competitive" ?
If you substitute a more extreme term like "Super Bowl Champs", or "Dynasty", it would make sense to be so many players away from that. But simply "competitive" ? Makes me wonder what the definition of "competitive" is here ??
And 10 red chips ? That's equal to practically an entire offense or entire defense. Probably would make sense, if we're talking Special Teams. That unit could definitely use nearly 10 "sub-units"

Everything I've read so far is pointing towards Breeland as legit. With him & Norman we should be able to generate more int's easily.

Actually, the only soft spot I'm reading on is the interior of the O-line. Still waaaaaay early to panic & overall I'm liking what's being reported.

It was Scot doing the talking and yes his apparent goal is championship caliber competitiveness.

Just remember this was a training camp off the cuff interview and not some formal state of the roster declaration.

If the new guys start developing into solid reds and or blues we're heading in the right direction.

10 out of 53 ain't all that much when you consider that Gibbs figured on almost 30% roster turnover each season to keep things rolling.

The audio archives are on the station's website (espn980) maybe listen and put you're own take on what was said.
 
Scott McLovin's pick for breakout player this season? The guy he thinks has improved the most during camp? It's a little surprising......

There's a video of him on the twitter account of @jpughnbc4 glowing about MJ yesterday. McLovin says he's really standing out.

God, I hope so. If Gruden will commit to the running game and giving carries to Jones (or Thompson, idgaf) consistently, we can be much better than last year. Jones looked good at times last year and hopefully the coaches can help with his fumbling problems.
 
Given that Scot made no effort to re-sign Morris, and didn't draft a RB until the 7th round I would HOPE he thinks Jones will play better this year.

I hope he does too, because if Jones wasn't part of the problem last year ... it was something else.
 
What problem?

I look at last year as a complete over-achievement of a year, and wildly successful considering beginning of the year expectations.

I'm not looking at this team with problems heading into the season. And I say that without making any comparison to the other NFC east teams who I can say have "problems".
 
If Jones has improved as much as Scot says, then that's great.

I'd also love to see Keith Marshall light it up. A few media guys have spoken positively about his camp so far.

This is probably the thing I want to watch most this offseason. McLovin at work.

Here's hoping that if he believes either the O-line or D-line still needs work, that he'll be able to have the same type of results he had managing our secondary last year.

Redskins first-round WR Josh Doctson (Achilles') is now in a walking boot.

The team insists Doctson hasn't suffered a setback, and they only put him in the boot for rest purposes. When reporters asked Doctson about the boot, Doctson said the team told him not to talk about his injury. The 22nd pick in the draft has been out since May. He appears weeks away from a return.
