Random Commanders Thoughts

Training camp begins but Josh Doctson is on the PUP list. Perry Riley and Carrier are also on the PUP list.

Fwiw, Ian Rapaport is reporting that Doctson's stay on the PUP list should be very short and that it's mostly procedural.

From the dot com

The Redskins announced on Thursday that they have placed linebacker Junior Galette on the Reserve/Non-Football Injury list. They also placed first-round wide receiver Josh Doctson, along with tight end Derek Carrier, linebacker Perry Riley Jr., left guard Shawn Lauvao and wide receiver Reggie Diggs to the Active/Physically unable to Perform list.

I won't characterize the start to the 2016 campaign a disastrous one, but it's certainly not been encouraging. Losing Galette was a brutal hit, and for those of you not paying attention, Doctson was placed on the PUP list yesterday - for an Achilles strain (that's scary).

The only silver lining I'll give is that we didn't have either guy on the field last year when we won the division. We're losing two players we never really had.

But yes, that sucks.

Word continues to be that Doctson is close to seeing action, and the team is just being uber cautious. Given what Achilles injuries have done around here the last couple years, it's understandable. My guess is if they were counting on Josh to fill a major hole in the offense out of the gate, he'd have been out there at least in a limited role yesterday. Given they have a solid WR corps, I think they're just keeping their powder dry.

Now, if this continues into next week, and we hit Wed or Thurs and they're still being vague about when he's back, then yeah, I'll start burning incense.

What I read was that his treatment until yesterday involved no active rehab (running, cutting, etc) and that that rehab started yesterday.

Tandler is doing some snapshots of camp, kinda fun

–Back returning punts are Rashad Ross, Chris Thompson, Will Blackmon, Jamison Crowder, and, yes, Pierre Garçon. They are trying challenging situations, holding a football in one hand while fielding the punt with the other and standing with their backs to the punter and not being able to turn around and locate the ball until the coaches yells go.

Hope this is meaningful
Matt Jones is quick. He popped a quick draft up the middle and make it into the open without being touched (no-pads warning here).

and one just for Win4 :)
A LeRibeus shotgun snap just rolled past Colt McCoy. Aborted play, eight-yard loss.

There's a bunch more at Live Redskins practice report?Day 2 | Rich Tandler's Real Redskins and I predict a group man crush on Cravens

I'm really curious about our defensive scheme this year. I keep hearing about position flexibility with players like Cravens

Redskins need to pounce on a veteran center that becomes available during the preseason cuts. We simply can't go into another season with an ungifted amateur in Josh LeRibeus trying to fill this spot if there are injuries.

Or they can rely on Austin Reiter to step up because they trust the young man?

I don't know about Reiter.

If Reiter was a legit candidate to backup Kory and eventually take over from him down the road, then why did the staff spend so much time working Spencer Long at center in the offseason?

Also, the team after cutting him renamed him to the practice squad but left him out there for quite some time before activating him towards the tail end of the season.

LeRibeus was mediocre enough at center in place of Kory you might think the team would consider activating a true center to the roster during the year and perhaps giving him a shot.

It's not like we didn't have a chance to improve our o-line and d-line during the draft, but somehow we did. :sour:

I'm pretty sure we drafted 3 online men last year, including an incredible talent in tackle, and a dline man this year. Did you forget?

We could call back Albright, feed him bacon cake until he gains 50lbs and it'd still be better scenario than Lerib. Swear that dude reminds me of Warren from 'Something About Mary'.

Im sure Callahan has enough confidence in Long backing up Licht. Otherwise he woulda had McLuvs do his thing, atleast for this season anyway.

Video of Both DJax and Garcon owning Norman at the beginning of camp.
Not that it matters much, in the month of July.

Redskins fans are freaking out over this video of DeSean Jackson beating Josh Norman | FOX Sports

(none of this is directed at you Fear - more the page title)

Ehhh... it was a 10 yard pick up without any tackling. If Redskins fans are really freaking out about THAT, we need to all get an IV of Valium.

BTW, it's not like DeSean is a scrub either. Norman was probably defending against the deep ball and DJax made a nice cut.

Whatever.
