well...the whole ranking concept in this context is kinda silly. the backs who make the final 53 are there for the scheme and particular skills the coaches want to leverage. we have a dynamite group now w/morris, helu, royster(?) and thompson. young is a great blocker and decent pass catcher. paul laid down some good blocks last night when he played FB. all bring a set of skills that fit the different playcalling contexts Kyle has in mind. heck, jamison looked really smooth last night with good power - and he's probably not going to make the 53 man roster.
 
I'm so sick of hearing "remember Osaka." These two redskins teams are so many light years apart in terms of coaching, personnel, and just good old fashioned mojo, that the phrase simply loses all meaning.

This offense dominated the NFL, and all we should take away from this preseason is that they are picking up right where they left off, and WITHOUT their best offensive weapon. Hail!

It also just screams that the people using it don't have a clue.

Osaka was a case of a coach running up a score in preseason using his starters much longer than the other team and running his real offense. That coach was later quoted as saying, after losing to that same team a few weeks later in regular season, "That wasn't what they ran in preseason."

This year is a case of 2nd, 3rd, and 4th string guys, many of which wont even be on the roster, running up the score on teams because they're physically more talented than those teams and because this year's redskins team has a culture of playing well and playing hard.

Trying to take something away from this preseason based on score is dumb, don't get me wrong. But comparing it to Osaka is even dumber.

While I agree with fansince that these rankings, by excluding the components of coaching, scheme, system pretty much lose a lot of validity, this one I have to refer to just for s**ts and giggles.

End of first half Chris Thompson returns a punt for a TD skins go up 17-0... Pat white.."Robert Griffin II's backup" throws a pick six redskins win 30-12. Thanks NFL.com.. you have 32 teams to cover, that's your only job. 30 offensive points, multiple turnovers= ten second highlight clip. I know its the preseason but wtf.

Oh yeah thanks for blacking out the ****ing game so I couldn't watch it on the service I ****ing paid for. Still blacked out today until after 24hrs goes by. NFL.com can eat this bag of dicks you refer to.
 
Sounds like the same highlight reel they showed today on NFL AM. Maybe it's just me, but it seemed every other winning team had a lot more "positive" plays shown. Other words, you knew which team won by the editing.

Obviously I don't know what our record will be, if we'll win the NFC east, go to the playoffs, win the superbowl, if griffin will get hurt, etc.

But i really like the way the team has been constructed. I haven't seen the redskins built this way in my entire life.
 
I am so fed up with people telling me preseason is meaningless when discussing how the redskins played this year.

Yes - in every measurable metric preseason is meaningless. Score, win/losses, yards, sacks, interceptions, touchdowns, points, etc. That's why you can run little queries over the history of the NFL and come back with statistics saying it's meaningless.

It's not meaningless in the immeasurable ways. Like how your guys do in one-on-one battles. Like whether your 3rd string executes the same vanilla play with the same overall smoothness and dominance as your first string did. Like whether your #8 and #9 receivers are competing for a job and looking damn good while doing it instead of looking like bread truck drivers collecting a paycheck. Like whether dude you picked up in 6th round as a d lineman is capable of picking up the guy that lined up across from him and pushing him straight into the QB play after play. Like whether a guy coming off a serious injury from the previous season is ready to play 60 minutes of football on a regular basis.

There's plenty of meaning to take away from preseason, you just have to know where to find it and look for it.
 
That was one of my favorite moments. I was watching and thinking "Did you just do what I thought I saw you do Jackson? Dayum!"
