Random Commanders Thoughts

With four games left, things I will be watching closely ...

1) Whether or not Jim Haslett can yet again smoke, mirror and jut-jaw his way into getting his defense, in meaningless games, to do JUST enough to let him keep his job.

2) How the passing game works, or doesn't, with Colt and/or Kirk at the helm.

3) Whether or not Gruden shows signs of getting his team, despite everyone being frustrated and playing out the string, headed in a more professional direction (for the love of [insert favorite deity or karmic equivalent here] stop with the procedure penalties!).

4) Whatever else our burgundy and gold obsession throws at us.

How many times during the game are we going to hear about the trade?

That, or you guys may get blessed with the whole "hands up", shenanigans.

Either way I'll be lucky enough to see some figure skating, or llama racing I've been meaning to catch up on.

I hope Gruden succeeds here.

I hope we end up 8-8 next year, and make the playoffs in 2016.

I hope we start sending some players to the pro-bowl.

I hope we begin to win regularly in the division.

I hope the games after Thanksgiving become meaningful again.

I hope Gruden becomes a HOF coach from Washington.

I didn't realize how emotionally tied I was to RG3, but it's becoming clear that I thought he was our hope for the next 10 years. But, Gruden is a guy with a plan, and RG3's strengths don't meld with that plan.

I'll mourn the day RG3 leaves the team, but I will understand.

I hope RGIII goes to another team that plays the Skins and crushes the Skins every time.

I hope Gruden is held accountable for lying during the interview process.

otherwise....I'm beyond caring after 20 years of this ****. as some other esteemed BGO notables who are exploring other areas of their lives...I'll still track the team...but with less avidity and interest.

You hope that?

dang, man. that's pretty bitter.

It's not Hasletts job to keep, if I'm not mistaken he's no longer under contract after the end of this season. I wonder if that also added to the reason that he was retained through this season.... Rumors swirled that he was handcuffed, Gruden and Co. basically said you've got a season to prove yourself.. and he failed.

I hope RG3 finds his mojo here or somewhere else. If McCoy shows he can do this, we should all rejoice. I know we can lock him up at a bargain basement price and get some stability at the position. That's a good thing all around. If McCoy flops like Cousins did last season we are back to where we started and Griffin won't be going anywhere.

Geez. I understand your frustration....everyone's frustrated. But posts like this make you sound like a RG3 fan, not a Skins fan.

And another thing to consider, if, and it's a very big if RG3 is even traded, you'll likely root for him on the bench next season.

It's in everyone's best interests to see him succeed, and I'm sure they will give him every last chance to do so.

Gruden is an idiot if he believed this, and if he did, and gave Has a season to prove it he is an even bigger idiot. Why would he give Has a chance knowing what he has done since he has been here? I did not understand why we kept him when Gruden was hired, at this point Gruden has wasted a year on defense. Poof gone.

Since it seems like Griffin will be gone, I wish him well and hope he succeeds wherever he lands. He is a great person, and in 2012 the man gave everything he could to this team and these fans. For him to be treated the way he has this season is absurd. I do not think Gruden ever had any intentions of keeping him. I root for the Redskins, it doesn't mean I cannot wish the best for a player this franchise has ruined.

not bitter.

think of it as the equal and opposite reaction.

still respect your die hard loyalty. Just taking a break from an organization that doesn't respect itself.

I don't know.... Gruden didn't exactly play us regularly so he had to go by what he can see on film and what people told him. EVERYTHING we hear from the NFL community about Haslett, for some reason or another, is completely positive. Honestly as much crap as we give Gruden for retaining Haslett, I'm sure people in the NFL world are telling him the same thing they are saying to the media....

got to follow the thinking man.

this team is dysfunctional. the HC is in over his head. there are way too many problems to fix and nothing in the history of this org over the last 20 yrs suggests they are equipped to succeed.

I believe that in the right circumstances Griffin can succeed. not in Ashburn, however. I'd like to see him move on, rededicate himself and realize all his potential. realizing that potential inevitably means beating the Skins. since I don't think this team is structured and led to succeed...it makes perfect sense to me. we move thru the same tap dance eveeeeeery year: just a few tweaks, we have core talent, we're not that far away. well....it's all a sham. we don't have the talent, we need more than a few tweaks, we are far away - especially when viewed from the perspective of organizational strength, unity, vision and leadership.

except on the balance sheet - this has been a failing enterprise for 20 years now. Redskin fans are the most tolerant, hopeful...self-flagellating fans/consumers in the universe! I see no path forward to a return to the standard....1980s Redskins. some of these players are high quality. they deserve better. they deserve to taste the fruits of victory at the highest level. they need to go elsewhere.

That is where if we had a good GM, the move would have been made before Gruden got there so he could start fresh, and get us going in the right direction, now we are one more year behind.....

Ohh well I keep rooting for the sons of bitchesssssssssss no matter what we do.......

So it's not on Gruden, it's on Allen?

A valid point. On those lines, some of the best QB's to play the game carried a clipboard for a few seasons before they became starters, QB's that came from pro style systems.

I don't know who it is on, but it seems that if Gruden questioned Haz, he would lean on Allen's intel on him. I don't understand how Has was still even here for it to matter..... That part is on Allen. It's all ****ed up OD ;)

I totally agree. That's probably the best way to help him develop into a great QB. If he hits the books as hard as he hits the field or weight room then he can be successful. They have a ton invested in him and he's a fan favorite. They'll give him plenty of chances.

WE AGREE... Haha. I would imagine it wasnt just Allen saying Haz was worth a look.
