Random Commanders Thoughts

Compton gets the start at RT Monday night.

Hope he takes it and runs with it.

A large group of fans (myself included) wanted to see what these young bucks got... looks like quite a few are going to be tested on Monday night.. Time for Compton, Compton, Murphy and Breeland to earn their keep.

Let's not forget that Cousins didn't get hit all that much back there. His problem was nerves but not the line. Robert needs to remember that when he comes back Monday

I hope and pray he's not playing Monday. I want Robert back under center as much as anybody, but I'd rather tank the game then rush him back.

I think Gruden will make him wait. Just my sense of it. I have mixed feelings. I want Robert back in there, but I agree we need to take the long view. This season is probably over already and we need to play for the future.

The timeline has changed 3 times.... So its hard to say. I dont know where i am on it. I dont want Griff coming back early. He NEEDS to be 100% physically as well as more then 100% mentally. There cannot be any hesitation. Do v i want to see him come out and shock the world on monday night but not at the expense of the future and his development. This season sucks.... Hard to watch games mixed with injury and frustration, but we cant risk it.

Why not start him? He will end up injured again at some point in the season. We beat them on Monday night, it precipitates their November/December demise and gives us a shot at a run down the stretch.

Playing for the future includes determining if this kid is our future. I stayed out of the Kirk Cousins thread about Robert, but I tend to agree with the pariahs here... McD5 and El. I'm done making excuses for Robert like so many others. If he's approved to be healthy, give him the ball and let us see if 2012 was coaching, scheme and pre-2nd knee injury athleticism or not.

I tend to side with the opinion that he can't read defenses or make quick enough decisions in this offense. Hopefully he can get healthy and prove me wrong but I don't think there are many d coordinators out there losing sleep like there was in 2012.

My issue with Griffin starting if he's cleared medically is rust. I really just want to see a win Monday night regardless of who plays QB. I would really like to see McCoy get a shot if Griffin isn't ready. I trust Gruden on this one.

I understand the concern of rust with Griffin, but you do realize McCoy just threw his first pass in like 2 years. You don't get much rustier than that. But I do agree with you on trusting Gruden. He knows the real situation and it's his neck on the line if it doesn't work.

I'm assuming McCoy can play better in the pocket...if that goes south we have options...

I love what I'm hearing about Trent Murphy. Ryan Clark believes he's a big upgrade over Orakpo, and that he has insane skills.

Let's see if he doesn't emerge as an absolute beast, with Monday night being his coming-out party.

Also just reported is that Perry Riley will be the starter again, replacing Compton. I don't agree with that decision, and am sure that Witten is thrilled by the news. Riley makes Rambo look good in pass coverage.

Yeah my best guess is Gruden is keeping the turd D on their toes by not letting the press know who starts. Nothing more than Robert isn't quite ready physically yet, but VERY close.

Wouldn't be surprised if coach may be purposefully sitting him a game or 2 either. Just to avoid last seasons "all in" shanaganigans of starting too soon. Letting Robert know he's not calling timetables anymore.

Washington Redskins. By all accounts Compton has done a nice job filling in for Riley, particularly in pass coverage.

Per Pro Football Focus, quarterbacks have a 70.3 passer rating when throwing at Compton while they have a 138.3 rating throwing at Riley.

There should be a warning here for both sample size (two games for Compton, five for Riley) and strength of competition (Riley faced such QB’s as Nick Foles, Eli Manning, and Russell Wilson while Compton played Carson Palmer and Charlie Whitehurst). Still, the difference in the numbers is stark.

There have been mutterings that Compton could be nickel/passing down addition with Riley part of the front line fast package similar to what Murph was doing before Rak was out. We'll see.

Just curious....where was he quoted as saying that?

I can't disagree...The running game is inconsistent at best. I cant say which blocking scheme or formation that seems to work better than another. I keep thinking it's going to come together in the next game. I'm still waiting...

I'm with you on playing him. Used to think save him, then I think about football players playing hurt vs. injured. Didn't McNabb or Owens play on a broken ankle? come on Griffen is a football player with exceptional recovery abilities. Play him if he's hurt, sit him if he's injured. That's what football players do.

I agree. I don't see Robert playing this week. I know he's our best chance of winning, but at the same time, if he really gets hurt coming back too soon, then what has been wasted?

That said, McCoy has still been throwing balls, just not with the 1st teamers. It's not like he just rides the clipboard & nothing else. He still has to practice. And even though Robert has been out for a while & Dallas already knew that (& probably aren't expecting him to play anymore than we are), they have very little to work with in terms of knowing what to fully expect from McCoy. Rusty? Maybe. How about well rested?

This is a trap game for Dallas & we need to make them pay for thinking they can beat us because we suck. Heart > talent.
