Shanahan always had this knack for finding RBs in the later rounds who could come in and have a dynamic year or two - maybe three.

It's not out of the scope of reality to have a line that cab do both, and we can actually run a non zone running game with Morris. It's the line, not the back
 
I'm surprised that any of us in this august group of veteran NFL watchers thinks Alfred Morris is operating at anywhere near 100% right now. The burst, wiggle and power are all, to me, conspicuously degraded over the AM we've seen the past two years. The man is not healthy.

It's also not an either/or deal ... it's just just that AM is slowed, he's also suffering the same fate so many other Redskins backs have faced over the past 20 years. Due to our starting QB's absence, and the substandard OL, he's facing stacked defenses that simply have no reason to respect the passing game. Alfred at close to 100% would still be having a tough time facing what he's faced the past few weeks. A couple bombs to DJax don't loosen defenses enough to allow him to face 6 or 7 guys--not when defenses know we can't protect the passer long enough to let those deep balls develop with any consistency.

In my mind it's far too early to think about writing off Morris, or making the assumption that he cannot thrive in an offense with a legit starting quarterback and working on two good wheels.
 
I don't have a concern about Morris other than fumbling. The teams that we've faced are stopping the run and have made Cousins beat them with his arm...Playing Seattle and the Texans won't help the averages behind a shaky Oline...Helu comes in on most passing downs and has put up better numbers but nothing earth shattering.

Absolutely right. I had intended to list the substandard OL along with Morris' health and lack of RG3 as reasons mitigating against over-concern about Morris' production this year.

It's always risky to post while on hold on the phone ...

Polumbus has had an 'off-year' according to the coach. That's a bit of an understatement. It would best be attributed to his career in DC. But, they're finally willing to admit that he isn't even that great a run blocker anymore.

How quickly every single one of us has forgotten the Jason Candle (sic) years and how we pretty much agreed that a great QB makes an O-Line look better (hint... Candle made our line look worse than it was).

No one is afraid of K-Cous and any pressure turns him into Picklesaurus (Damn... wished I had thought of Picklesaurus Rex when OG #8 was still roaming the sidelines) and everyone is trying to stop The Butler (who is likely not 100% healthy). Polumbus was never any good. Chester is only off with a warning because he isn't as bad.

Let's not forget that Cousins didn't get hit all that much back there. His problem was nerves but not the line. Robert needs to remember that when he comes back Monday
 
I don't think any of us have forgotten how a great QB makes an OL better, Nick. Hell, we had Exhibit A here down the stretch in 2012.
 
Do you trust this FO at this juncture to trade Morris for a pick and actually come up with an impact performer?

I am not advocating a trade but based on how slowly some of these recent picks have been to even nail down top backup jobs is concerning.

Moses and Long are buried on the inactive list while Murphy, now starting with Orakpo out, was hardly given a vote of confidence by Gruden.

When I hear or see reporters or football people talk about a guy's intelligence and effort but not his athletic ability I usually think of a fifth or sixth round pick, not a second rounder.
 
You're talking about three rookies, BT. I wonder how many rookies are full-time starters around the NFL this year and producing? How long do you generally give a draft class before making judgments? Particularly on teams with rookie head coaches and starting 2nd and 3rd string QB's?

I'm not up for trading Morris, as I've said. And truth be told I'm not real long on confidence in Bruce Allen as The General Manager after one offseason, but to suggest that lack of trust in the FO is a reason to object to any moves strikes me as a little reactionary.
 
You think he's dead on about what? That we should dismiss/discount any moves the current FO makes, even with all the variables in play?
 
When it comes to OL rookies,at least for us older fans, I think we don't realize just how special the situation was here in the early 80's.

I was thinking about this on the drive to work this morning....

You had Grimm,May and an UDFA in Jacoby all starting from basically day one on the Oline.

How often in NFL history does that happen? And we're pissin' and moanin' because Long and Moses didn't start from day one?

Also, how big a difference is there between Buges and Foerster in coaching ability? Do they even make equipment that can measure that wide of a gap?

I'm as frustrated as anyone and I'm tired of watching the Skins get pushed around in the trenches every Sunday but I also have to remind myself not to let a past miracle of history skew what's going on today.
 
Gruden had previously indicated that he would determine by Thursday’s practice whether Griffin would be active for the first time since dislocating his left ankle Sept. 14 against the Jacksonville Jaguars. The coach demurred at his news conference Thursday afternoon, saying he wouldn’t announce whether Griffin would be active for Monday night’s game until the deadline to submit the game-day is roster about an hour before kickoff.

maybe. somehow....I'm thinking ALF would do just fine behind an o-line that can manage a 3-4 yard push upfield on running plays. I don't think he's as one dimensional as you paint him to be. agree on pass catching.....thought that may be just a practice issue.

my only concern with ALF is his dang fumbling!
 
Sorry to not get the weekly BBQ blog out there this week. Life times three happened and I refuse to put together a discombobulated set of verbiage just for the sake of doing so.

If I had to give a set of overall grades, it would be mostly a "C" with McCoy earning a bit higher.
