More on Clark’s value: He quickly recognized a zone read look and called it out before the play happened. The defense stopped the play. As I’ve said before, there’s just a big difference with him back deep and anyone else when it comes to communicating. Thomas was praised after one play for his pre-snap communication.

Maybe that's the guy under his wing, which would be cool. If healthy, a young dude who will be around for at least the next four years.

Some Redskins news here and there...

TE Ted Bolser will be a longshot to make the roster and may not be good enough for the practice squad.

Kirk Cousins continues to be the positive minded warrior who understands his role with the team. However, he hopes to get a starting gig somewhere in the years to come.

Keenan Robinson could have the inside track at starting next to Perry Riley at ILB, but will undoubtedly be pushed by Trent Murphy.

Some believe that Adam Gettis has a better chance of making the roster over Josh LeRibeus, but his size (or lack thereof) is a big negative.

Alfred Morris is expected to get a few more touches as a receiver out of the backfield in 2014, but his role will be very much the same as in the past two years.

Jordan Bernstine was recently cleared to resume practicing and playing, but the Redskins will probably pass on resigning him.

Linebackers coach Brian Baker wants to see his players causing many more fumbles in 2014.

A few weeks ago, Niles Paul was not a lock to make the roster. A few weeks later, a lousy seventh round TE selection has Paul as a lock to make the team.

If lousy TE selection Niles Paul, can make such a turnaround, maybe there's hope for lousy TE selection Bolser.
Especially considering Bolser was actually a TE when we drafted him, so he has an advantage in that aspect over Paul, who was not even a TE when we selected him

—Last year the Redskins had 14 drives of 50 yards or longer that did not result in a score. Of those drives, five ended with interceptions, four with fumbles, two on downs, two on missed field goals and the first-half clock ran out on the other one. The futile drives came in 10 different games at the Redskins went 1-9 in those games.

—On the other side of the ball, the Redskins managed to stop nine drives of 50-plus yards before the other team scored. They ended one by forcing a punt, ended two with fumbles, two on downs, watched as opponents missed three field goals, and one eded when the game clock expired. Washington won three games last year and two of them came in games where the managed to stop long drives.

Keim stuff, may be of interest to some looking for something, anything other than 'name change'

I remember some high hopes coming out of this draft, Jenkins the monster, 'big hands' Hank, speeeeeedy Aldrick, mellow Helu handing the ball to the ref after the score, Niles 'shannon' paul.....

The Washington Redskins' 12-member draft class in 2011 was supposed to yield a number of key players. With those players entering the final year of their original contracts, it has not lived up to expectations -- or hopes. As of now, only one player will enter the season as a guaranteed starter and by this time next year it could well be that only a couple players remain from this group. Injuries didn't help as five of these players have missed an entire season or a substantial part of a year. Here's a look at how they stand:

Chris Russell, our quite often over-the-top local ESPN980 'insider' is feeling strong about sack totals this upcoming season.

Many have and will scoff at his notions but it's a fun read anyhow.

Who knows, maybe his optimism is not totally misguided, some of it actually makes sense.

So how can the Redskins get better? They need 50 sacks to be the defense that can truly make an impact and alter games.............

So how do the Redskins get to this ridiculous (for them) number? Well that's easier said than done, but I have some legitimate reasons for hope.

1. Brian Orakpo in another contract year (presumably).
2. A healthy Ryan Kerrigan
3. Jason Hatcher and Chris Baker added as full-time starters to the defensive line.
4. Trent Murphy and Brandon Jenkins developing into rotational depth.
5. Brian Baker and Kirk Olivadotti..............

Redskins fans have been disappointed in Orakpo, and I understand all of the arguments but here's something to keep in mind. Ryan Kerrigan and Orakpo (at full strength) have only been on the field together for essentially one full season of games, because of Orakpo missing most of 2012 and Kerrigan being hampered by his knee last year.

That sounds like excuses and maybe it is, but in order for players to fully perform, health and a tag-team partner to feed off of is a needed reality. Robert Quinn is great, but would he be as good if he didn't have Chris Long? Greg Hardy is a terrific pass rusher, but how much does Charles Johnson help him? You get my point...............

Sometimes a QB hurry, pressure and/or hit just as effective as the actual 'sack'.

Also, you best establish that you can stop the run if you expect the blitz to work.

Good read though...lots of other stuff in there too.

Just the addition of Hatcher alone (assuming his knee issues are no more serious than needing a scope/cleanout) is going to make a big difference as a third threat relieving pressure on Orakpo, Kerrigan, or both. And we also added some serious pash rush threats in the draft.

I think the pressure we'll see on opposing QBs this year is going to open some eyes.

And we also added some serious pash rush threats in the draft.

I think the pressure we'll see on opposing QBs this year is going to open some eyes.

I just hope we see some blitz packages on 3rd and long instead of rushing 3 like we saw too many times last year. We are going to get beat on blitzes from time to time...good QB's can do that. But for ****'s sake, bad QB's look like Payton Manning when you only rush 3!

I thought I had buried the memory deep in my psyche of Brian Orakpo dropping back in coverage as we rushed 3 on a critical 3rd and long late in the game!
