Right, but I think in the thread here my main point was missed - OK coaches gamble on players at times - but what they don't usually do and good GMs don't when there is a two-headed decision tree - is SPEND BIG MONEY ON THE PROBLEM CHILDREN.

They protect themselves by limiting these players to one year deals or provide for team options, etc.

From that list by Primus Porcus, a number of those guys were on big multiyear deals.

You’ve pointed out Hill a bunch of times. Reid had already given him a 3 year $57M deal, which was top of market money for a receiver at the time. They moved on from him due to cap concerns more than anything else

And word comes now that the Chiefs are going to cut Jawaan Taylor with a June 1 designation and replace him with #1 draft pick Jason Simmons.

I only want to see Washington do the same with Daron Payne, who is due a larger payout near $27M for 2026, and this is a player we are just treading water with.

He has never shown in any year other than ONE that he is even in the vicinity of being a above average performer and that of course came in a contract year.

But we don't tend to move on quickly from these types of players as I see other teams do.

It was true under Bruce and then under Ron Rivera, they just never wanted to admit they made a mistake.

Take the $16M in salary savings and eat the remaining dead cap monies in 2026 and let's move on from him.

Jason Simmons is Josh Simmons. Josh Simmons was a top 10 talent in the 2025 draft who fell to the last pick in the 1st round due to both injury and character/maturity issues. The latter manifested as he went MIA from the team for 4 weeks before returning.

Regarding Payne, I don't want him back but look at the FA list. The one guy on it who is still in their prime window who would be a clear upgrade is John Franklin-Myers and he is a different type of player than from what Payne is

He's more like Johnny Newton, smaller DT/DE at 288 lbs. He's also older, he'll turn 30 by week 3. I'd rather stick with Payne

Jessy Martin, co-host of the Bleeding Burgundy Podcast along with our friend John Tayman ( Bang) is dealing with a both difficult and expensive personal situation involving his 17 year old daughter. His daughter Lilly recently broke her back in 3 places while recreating out of state in West Virginia. Adding to the difficulties is that Jessy is currently out of work due to a work related accident and receiving only partial pay while on Workman’s Comp. Medical insurance is in effect but Lillly, being out of state and therefore out of network, compounds the situation. As a single father Jessy could use some generous helping hands.

You do mean all of the posters carrying on screaming that Forbes was a stupid decision, and the posters were right, correct?

I will never forget the team releasing video of Ron Rivera bragging about getting Forbes like he was some kind of future HOFer steal in the 1st round.

You never want someone in control of your draft selections whose prime impetus is showing everyone in the NFL how smart he is. I would love to know if Forbes was actually the best player listed on the teams big board. I suspect he wasn't the scouting department's choice and that it was just Rivera doing Rivera things.

There was a very loud group of people, who have certain feelings about Adam Peters, that jumped on the Forbes bandwagon for part of this past season that it was also a major mistake that we let him go, and said AP was clearly not a good GM for moving on.

I don’t think it makes him a bad GM, because Forbes clearly sucked for us. But it was an unnecessary mistake.
