Random Commanders Thoughts

I think it's hard to fully assess which OL players *are able* to thrive at a given position when you've played musical chairs for 2 seasons. We know we have some versatility as a result, but what we don't know with some of these guys (like Coleman) is what their ceiling is at a given position.
 
We begged for years to invest in the offensive line under Rivera, who destroyed a good OL with no real plan to fix it. When Peters does, we still complain. We have stud bookend tackles for the first time since Williams-Moses, and probably better than Samuels-Jansen before them. I'm not going to mess with it.

But we do need to see if Coleman can be a guard or not. Paul was awful against Phillys backups. He needs to be replaced.

Yeah I still don't understand the pushback I read all over the internet at the Tunsil trade. Washington fans are obsessed with the OL from the Hogs days. They always want us to pick OL early in the draft or so it seems. So these opinions were weird to me.

I was okay with Tunsil (though surprised as I thought Coleman actually had a very good rookie season.) The Connerly pick was the one I questioned. I figured Coleman had shown enough at tackle that he would get his shot.

I don't either if Tunsil is re-upped (should be a forgone conclusion) and plays well for the next 4 or so years at LT and stays healthy.
 
Tunsil should be resigned. LT with no serious injury problems in his history to indicate he won't play out a 3-4 year extension.

On the other hand, I want to see Payne OFF this roster in the offseason. Enough feeding at the trough for a guy that has lived off ONE season of first round level performance.

He already bit us once on the hope his 11.5 sack season would be a precursor of the future, if we bite a second time on him we are the fools.
 
He made a couple of visible penalties on special teams earlier in the season as well.

Seems like a player that gets the 'yips' out on the field. Never really seems comfortable and focused.
 
Anyone know when teams can expand their roster? Is after the Super Bowl or oce your season is completed?

Tough for a guy like that to reach an equilibrium without getting chances. When your first chance to make a play in a game is probably also your last…possibly for weeks…yeah that can get in your head. You’ve played football since you were a kid and were always a focal point of every program you were in. Then you hit the NFL, maybe you aren’t special anymore at the highest level, but to get only MAYBE one opportunity a game on average? That’s no way to see what a guy’s made of, and it makes every little routine route and target the fucking Super Bowl for that guy. Every single touch all of a sudden feels like it happens under a spotlight and you never naturally get to depressurize and just…play. Confidence is a real thing for these young guys. Withholding opportunities and then expecting a guy to be perfect every time he (rarely) gets a look his way, it’ll mess with a dude’s head.

I’m not even high on Sinnott, either. I’m not making excuses for him. It’s just not a sustainable way to bring young players along. It sucks ass.

Look - I hear what you are saying. I'm not saying Sinnott is some kind of head case, but you either take advantage of the opportunities you are given or you don't. That's true whether you get a boatload of opportunities or a handful. He hasn't. The 'why' of that is for Sinnott and his coaches to talk about. But the NFL is a bottom line business and the bottom line on Sinnott is that he appears to have been overdrafted and lacking the talent to be a playmaker for this team. To me, granted just a fan's eye, he looks slow, unathletic, and lacking in confidence. That makes him at best a future NFL journeyman.

That may be harsh, but we are 2 seasons in. One more season and he's at the NFL career average playing time. He's running out of time.
 
It sure sounds like they are going "explosive" offensive players as their #1 need....then yawn, pass rusher. We need both along with a boatload more defenders!

Btw - I need to listen to the whole presser, but when asked about the TE group I wasn't crazy about Peter's comments. He basically theorized one of the 3 TEs under contract could step up and fill Ertz's shoes and talked about all the 'progress' Sinnott had made. He even sounded like he thought Ertz might come back.

Sounded a bit delusional to me. But I need to listen to the whole presser.
