Boy, Snyder was one cheap bastard when it came to anything that was out of the eye of the camera.

He would spend money on one or two free agents each year for a long time but that was about it. The rest of the money went in his pocket.
 
such a stupid thing to be excited to hear about, but i'm 100% here for it.
 
Every time I saw a photo of Redskins Park, it felt like being stuck in a Time Machine. It just looked so old and outdated. 20 years ago, that may have worked. You can say it’s history and nostalgia and you can harken back to winning. But these days, players are coming from colleges with state of the art facilities then going to an NFL team with equipment that looks like it’s from a fitness museum. They probably even still use overhead projectors (exaggerating, but probably only a little). Practice facilities, training rooms, weight rooms, video rooms, all of it needs to be state of the art these days.
 
Harris has to redo everything. I don't think anyone outside of the management group realizes how little Snyder did those last 10 years in ownership.

He probably realized by 2018 or 2019 that he was going to end up selling and everything that was either on the table or contemplated in re the team was shelved.

This is truly an expansion team both on the field and off the field.

The Commanders facilities remind me of the days when the New York Giants were playing games at the Yale Bowl in Connecticut :cheer2:

There was a quote sometime before the season from Harris where he said something about spending a lot of time talking to plumbers. Or about plumbing. Or something like it.

The message was crystal clear: Even the most basic infrastructure, plumbing and electrical, could not be trusted and had to be redone. They dumped a bunch of money into the stadium as fast as they could, but they only had something like 6 weeks before the season started, and had to work around preseason games.

While I'm sure he had an idea before he bought the team how bad the facility and the stadium were, I doubt he understood the full magnitude until they got into the season and saw it first hand.
 
Yep, nothing like spalling concrete and exposed rebar to indicate that perhaps the construction job was rushed a bit :rolleyes:

The district screwed JKC first by stalling his ability to build a stadium in the district.

Then JKC rushed to get the new stadium open before he died. And I don’t think he did.

Then Snyder let the thing sit there and rot for 25 years without even changing a lightbulb.

That place is cursed.
 
Plus, Maryland doesn't really want the Commanders there. Yes, PG county wants the team for revenue purposes, but the state government is all in on the Ravens and they use them as the face of the state on marketing brochures and any commercial tie-ins, etc.
 
Well, I was at a business conference where we had some folks from the Maryland Govt present and I recall the 'materials' they brought included photos of the Naval Academy, Chesapeake Watershed and images of the Ravens/Orioles in Baltimore.

You wouldn't even have known there was another sports franchise in the state.

Now, perhaps with the change in ownership some recalculations have been made, but the Ravens have had that 25 years to separate themselves in the state and gather support.

Just eyeballing support for the Commanders in terms of fan base my guess is the tilt has gone from MD 60%/VA 40% when I was in high school to a flip of that number today.

I wonder if asking all of those fans to continue to drive long distances to a proposed new stadium is the answer, unless a closer in location can be found.

Perhaps the National Harbor tract?
 
Oxon Farms makes the most sense to me. Always has. But I don’t live there so I no longer care really.
 
I personally want the new stadium in VA because that's where I live and that would be more convenient for me.

However, I think the two leading candidates are either right where it is or the RFK site. The House passed the bill to lease the land back to the District for redevelopment on Feb 28th. I haven't seen where it has passed the Senate yet, but it's expected to.

Then it's up to the DC Government to figure out if they want to have it happen. There is a woman in VA, Louise something or other, who almost single handedly killed what she termed the "Glenn Dome." There are members of the DC City Counsel who are of similar thinking to Louise.

This all is going to take a while to figure out.

Until then, Harris has to spend the 25 years worth of money Dan didn't spend repairing and upgrading the atrocity that is the old stadium.

And he has to do something with the team facility, which is old and small. The problem is, according to Keim, there just isn't room in the facility to put all the modern amenities which players and coaches want. The footprint doesn't allow it. So there is only so much they can do with what they've got before either building out something brand new there, or somewhere else.

However, new carpet is a good start I guess.

So they are not about safety now? I’m so confused. I thought changing the kickoff rules was dumb in the first place. The only one I liked was the fair catch. But they supposedly have stats about concussions on kickoff and had to change the rule to protect the players. Now they are going back to having more returns.
 
The proposal aims to increase kickoff returns and reduce injury by eliminating the running start of the kickoff team and by incentivizing kickers to drop kicks into a landing zone, which extends from the goal line to the 20-yard line.
 
But if the kicking team has to run downfield to tackle the return man, they are still running downfield colliding with other players, which can cause injury. I mean, it’s football and that’s the game everyone signs up to play. I’m just confused by the league saying a rule change is for player safety, but then add in a rule that de-incentivizes players playing it safe.
 
To me it makes a kick return more like a punt return but without gunners. It for sure will not be safer than no kick returns, which is what currently exists.
