The new team name should be The Washington Wallendas.

They literally have to walk a tightrope to be in any game.

And Heinicke is who he is. If he was more,we'd have seen it by now.

At 1-4 with Wentz at quarterback this team didn’t evidence any ability to to have a competitive season.

The fact we are 7-5-1 after 13 games I think is a surprise to just about everyone.

In discussing Heinicke I go back to what Alex Smith did in 2020, lead from the front, make a couple of key plays over 60 minutes to keep the wins coming and the competitive level high.

I didn’t have any expectation Smith would go on to be the quarterback beyond that season but he was the best option at the time because the team responded to him.

I don’t have any expectation Taylor will be the starter here in 2023. But he is the best option given the circumstances of where we are in 2022.

Wentz to me is comparable to Jeff George.

He gets on the field and slings the ball around, creating some nice plays but coming up with the counterbalancing negative killer plays as well. His football IQ is questionable

Like George he throws into double coverage and is an absolute statue in the pocket.

And most importantly he doesn’t win.

I have such little faith in him that if Taylor had gone down a week ago I would have been happy to bring Baker Mayfield in for a four game audition.

Even more of a reason to have it in our mind we need to handle business a week from now. They're bullied and bruised. It's time to come out and put the hammer down.

True but you can't deny the production.

But my point remains, he is playing because there is no other choice.

Lance had less than a 50% completion ratio and was averaging 97 yards a game passing when he got injured.

Yeah, its a small sample size and sure it would have gotten better. But if it hadn't gotten better you know what? He'd still be starting.

It is the way of the NFL. It's possible for coaches to change the depth chart at QB for performance but it doesn't happen nearly as often as it probably should.

It’s not that hard to understand. If Rivera were to bench Heinicke and Howell goes out there and throws 3 picks and we lose like we did in Game 1 against the Eagles or Cowboys then he would face a chorus of criticism from all sides but most importantly the locker room.

If the veteran players on the team who see these guys throw regularly are solidly behind Taylor starting in 2022 and you never heard any calls for Sam when Wentz got hurt, it’s because they felt Howell isn’t ready.

For every one rookie that steps in and has a good game there are five that don't?

At 6-1-1 over the past eight games and in the middle of a late-season playoff hunt you don't start a rookie unless you have no choice.

Detroit won but other than that it was a good day for Washington. I know San Fran won but they are going to win that division Bock Purdy at QB or not so I don’t see them being a threat.

Panthers did us a major solid and you actually have to wonder if they won’t overtake TB at the top of that division.

It’s just baffling to me that a 7th round rookie can produce a better pass offense in one half than Heinicke and Co can in a whole game.

With the talent here at WR, they shouldn’t struggle as hard as they do,especially with the way they can run the ball.

San Fran is rolling hard and are downright scary right now. Playing them twice on their field? Oof.

I guess I will have to be happy with hoping for a win vs the hapless NYG and keeping a close eye on the dangerous Detroit Lions.

Washington's pass protection is crap. Heinicke, for all his limitations, can survive and modestly produce while withstanding a constant withering pass rush. Wentz could not. We don't know if Howell can.

But even then the team needs to rely heavily on the run, which is why whomever plays under center will not be putting up big numbers.

San Francisco’s offensive line is much better than Washington’s.

Rouillier was the most consistent player for us and he is out for the year.

The other factor again is Shanahan.

He refuses to go into a shell because of the quarterback change.

He is going to remain aggressive and pick out the plays each quarterback can make to score points.

Here Scott Turner does not utilize Taylor’s mobility to create plays on the edge.

Shanahan would never have Taylor throwing from the pocket 25 times a game.

In short, Shanahan coaches players and Turner coaches a system. Vastly different things.
