Random Commanders Thoughts

I can't get that down on Heinicke. Just like I couldn't on Wentz.

Our QBs and our OL are being asked to do things not in their wheelhouse.

Not that I think Heinicke is the best QB here since Theismann, he isn't, but he may have more heart than any QB since Theismann and I hate that Turner is wasting that.

I'm not all that enamored of Scott Turner, and I'm convinced 2022 Ron Rivera is not the guy to lead this team forward, but one thing I am sure of at this point is that TH4 is exactly who many of us thought he was. Great character, great story, oozes "moxie" and all that good stuff, but at the end of the day a backup quarterback in the NFL. Nothing I've seen since he took back over--by that I mean decision-making and execution--has indicated to me there's an upward trajectory.

My thoughts haven’t changed about Taylor either, but I think I think better of him than you do. From what I’ve seen Heinicke is a starter, but he’s a bottom third starter or a really high end backup. Now, you can win with a bottom 1/3 starter, but you need to scheme within those limitations and build a roster that negates or minimizes his weaknesses.
The latter is what we haven’t done. Heinicke needs a good pocket because he can’t see over linemen. He needs a mobile pocket. He needs a lot which is why you don’t want to settle for a bottom 1/3 QB.
But we haven’t done Heinicke many favors scheme wise.

I think we're on the same page, brother. I've been calling him a high-end backup for a while.

Indy fired Frank Reich. There’s Scott’s replacement.
Do it!

That would be really good. It probably wouldn’t happen until after the season though, and who really knows what happens then.

There will be no bold moves until Rivera is sent packing. That's why sending Rivera packing is my #1 priority.

If Snyder is really selling the team then there should be no bold moves until the team is sold. Why saddle the new ownership group with a team they may not want? I guess you could negotiate a new staff bringing in the likely owners to consult on the decision, but I think Rivera ought to be untouchable until the team is sold... unless we've been sold a Brooklyn Bridge.

I am talking about putting Sam Howell in there … that’s not a crazy bold move. Unless you are Ron Rivera who apparently thinks we are a playoff team…

Sorry. My mind was on replacing Rivera.

I'm probably with you on seeing what Howell can do. I actually wanted him in ahead of Taylor when we were 2-4 because I thought the season was toast. Funny how quick toast can get buttered and then recharred.

It might be just me but I’d let Howell sit for at least one more week.

Hey, Paul- was that your question that Rick Snider answered on his YouTube channel? Or are there two Canadian Hogs?

Hey Chris,

Yes, that was my question...lol.

I love listening to Rick. That was my first time getting my question in.

Regardless 2023 is going to be a transition year and likely we won't know what we have in terms of a leadership group and braintrust in full 'action' until 2024.

This situation is a bit different though than other recent sales in that Rivera holds ALL of the power in regards to football operations on paper, including hiring his own GM and others.

So, Ron likely would not accept a coach only role in 2023 if that was offered to him by new management.

I just don't see anyway a new ownership group let's him operate with no oversight and complete freedom of movement after spending what they will have and having a high pick and some important decisions to make including picking up Wentz's $28M salary for the upcoming season.

If it were me and I won the bidding a precondition would be not bringing back that salary because I wouldn't want to pay it.

Wentz at $28M is perhaps the worst value for dollar contract for a quarterback in the NFL.

His quarterback rating is 3 points lower than Taylor's, for all that think Taylor is only a backup (which I agree with).

Wentz will continue his NFL career but he looks like a Blaine Gabbert to me, a journeyman backup at 29/30.

Agreed, it all depends upon when the sale happens and what changes can be effectuated quickly to get a management team in place to handle free agency and the draft.

This could end up like 1999 when the ownership change comes too late to replace Norv Turner but Cerrato took over the front office.

Hopefully, we don't end up with boobs like Cerrato involved in the transition and God knows Norv had enough opportunities to win here. I don't know of many other coaches that get 7 years to try and get it right and then look as if they deserved more time :LOL:

I want them all gone - front office and Jason Wright included. Cleansing fire.
