I think you answered your own question about 'what all those supposed trade partners thought of Trent' - and it has little to do with his talent level. In a draft with a bunch of 1st round quality OTs, why would any team not draft one and pay them peanuts, if a 1st round starter is sitting there for the taking?

It's a numbers game plain and simple. To a large extent, we just got unlucky with several of those tackles falling and being there for the teams that had to have one.

I still suspect Williams will be traded at some point. I agree this should have been resolved long ago, and I also see him playing if something can't be worked out with a trade partner. He really has no choice unless he's ready to retire.

You andI are mostly on the same page with this, I think in the minority too, about making him play if we cannot find adequate compensation, so I won't belabor this.

I just want to say, I think his talent and the possible headache play as much a part in this as the amount of tackles available.


With that said, it looks like we should probably be giving Penn another year...if for nothing else, quality depth at the T position on either side of the line.
 
We might be completely on the same page. I don't think he's helped himself by any stretch.
 
I know this is not Redskins related other than LeFluer is a former coach here, but I cannot believe how predictable the media is...

I think the Packers are brilliant to draft Jordan Love when they did. I'm not sure he could come into the league and play right away, but given the chance to sit behind a future hall of famer like Rodgers gives him the best opportunity to succeed...the kid has talent. LeFluer is getting beaten up by many. I think it was a good pick. They just need to address WR over the next couple of rounds. Should be easy to do with the depth in this year's draft at WR.
 
Have you listened to any of his interviews? He's ... errr.... not exactly Mensa material :) I don't get the 'Love'. His Utah State career is not particularly impressive. He was terrible his freshman season, improved significantly as a sophomore (but still pretty pedestrian #'s), and had a very up and down junior year throwing almost as many picks as TDs, completing less than 62% of his throws, not much on the ground, and passing yds have never been anything special.

He's a good athlete. He was a big-time track athlete and that shows. But I see nothing in terms of his leadership ability or #'s that suggests he is going to be an NFL starter.

Of course you never know. To be honest, the main reason I chimed in here is because you've been absolutely savage at times in your assessment of Haskins college performance - but this guy? You verbalized what I've heard a lot of pundits say, that this is a smart move because he can sit behind Rodgers and 'learn'. But there are two problems with that idea. The first one being, Rodgers will be highly pissed at this move. He's kind of a prick to begin with, so Love will be lucky if Rodgers ever learns his first name, much less getting tutelage or pointers from him. In fact, wouldn't surprise me at all if Rodgers did anything he could to undermine the kid - because he's kind of a prick to begin with :) And the 2nd problem is, Love didn't shine at the college level or show himself to be a cerebral QB who can handle complex offenses or major pressure. I don't think those two things set the stage for the next great Green Bay QB to emerge. Oh - and he was busted for weed possession back in December which may not matter anymore in the NFL, but it doesn't point to great judgment/intelligence.

I think he'll be just another athletic QB who throws a nice ball but can't master the nuances of NFL QBing or ever become consistent enough to be an NFL starter.

Trent Williams will never play another game as a Washington Redskin. Even if we are stupid enough to try and let him.

He will be traded sometime between now, and training camp. As he should be.
 
The smartest thing we can do is to let EVERYONE know that we are prepared to make him play for us. That's the only way we get any kind of decent return for him.
 
Well, you know my position. Getting rid of him is all the decent compensation required. :thewave:
 
Word is Cleveland can be scratched from the suitor list due to their 1st round pick. Our best case scenario now is the Vikes OT Reif and pick. By jettisoning Reif they generate cap space they can sign Trent with. A 4th plus Reefer and boom goes the dynamite

 
I wonder if Tunsil's new extension will have any effect on Trent.

Trautman fell all the way down the third round a couple of picks before the Redskins were selecting at the top of the 4th.

I was hoping the Redskins would be a bit aggressive there and jump up and take a guy that was predicted to go in Round 2.

Instead it was the damn Saints moving up yet again.

Between the Saints and Patriots they took all the TEs off the board in Round 3.

I guess Rivera and Smith don’t value the TE position as much as other teams do in terms of being a focal point of the offense.
 
There are still several TEs in the same neighborhood as Trautman (mostly because the Pats took guys rated lower than the ones still on the board).

I wanted Trautman, but that's the problem with entering a draft with 7 picks instead of 10 or more. Unless you want to trade future picks (and replicate the issue next year), you can't move up without leaving yourself only a handful of picks. You also have to have a willing partner - not just willing to trade down, but willing to trade down for what YOU can offer.
 
Rappaport reported yesterday that a trade with MN for TW was in place but that TW shot it down = he wouldn't sign. This guy has no gameplan. The irony is that he is shooting himself in the foot. It's obvious, if he does have a gameplan, it's to be released outright so he controls who, when, how much. I'd rather the Skins sit on him and squeeze. Do whtever it takes to reduce the money he gets. Make him eat that 12 mil he receives this season.
 
Trent Williams claims he didn’t nix the trade but Keim says his sources support Rapoport.

Minnesota had enhanced its offer and was shocked by Williams’ about face.

This guy is a head case people.

He’s this year’s version of Antonio Brown circa 2018 in Pittsburgh.
