Prayers Needed Please - UPDATED with good news!
Hi guys, I don't normally post this type of stuff on a message board, but I know this is a smaller community and I know the people here are good and truly do care.
One of my good friends collapsed and went into cardiac arrest last Thursday night while on a walk with another friend. Our friend who was with her was able to flag down a passing car for help. They administered CPR until the paramedics arrived and transported her to the hospital.
Doctors have been unable to determine the cause, but they have ruled out a heart attack, brain aneursym, and illicit drugs. Right now they are thinking it could have been an arrhythmia.
Regardless, she was without air for at least 4 minutes and now has aspirational phneumonia from vomitting during her convulsions. Following her intubation at the hospital, she was placed in a drug-induced coma to minimize further damage to the brain.
The doctors have since been trying to get her off the ventilator, but the pneumonia and fact that she has a very weak heart (she has a congenital heart problem that required open heart surgery as a young child) is greatly hindering this process. Right now they have placed her in a deeper coma to allow her to rest for a few days before they make a last ditch extubation attempt whereupon the doctors can check whether she has any brain function.
Unfortunately things look quite bleak at the moment and we are all devastated at the likelihood of losing her. Of course the doctors are staying upbeat on the prognosis as this is regular protocol until all options have been investigated...but I know deep down if this extubation attempt doesn't work the doctors are going to start talking "reality" to her husband and rest of her family.
Anyway, if you are so compelled, would you please keep my friend in your prayers? She is such a wonderful, vibrant, young 29 y/o woman and this is just so unbelievably unfair; all we want is to just have her back with us. This is just so devastating and I don't want her husband or family having to make the agonizing decision of pulling her off life support in the near future. So if you can, please keep her, her husband, and her family in your prayers.
