Post your 'end of the Rivera era' vibe...

Despite my frustration with Del Rio he definitely deserves kudos for stepping up when Ron was undergoing cancer treatment.

Since the interwebz is forever (sort of), here is the thread announcing his hire.

Happy my only response in that thread was a drive-by Happy Thanksgiving one.

(Quite a few friendly and missed former participants in there.) 🥲

Yeah, that was the thing I noticed. So many names we no longer hear from.

Also, I didn’t post that to prove anyone wrong. I just wanted to see what the general sentiment was when he was hired. All of us have reached the same point with Ron, regardless of where we started.

I didn't read the whole thread, just the first couple pages but it hardly seemed like a love fest to me...

Some have passed on. A few wore out their welcome. Some seem to come only for the contests. Some just inexplicably stopped posting, or got pissed off and didn't return. Forum participation has dropped dramatically over the years all over the web. Folks don't want the family-owned italian place or the neighborhood pub, they want a drive through meal in a bag. The megasites rule nowadays even if the discussion is a lot less enlightening.

It is what it is.

I think if we all made a bigger effort to invite individuals here ourselves and convince them this is a place worth being a part of, it could make a difference.

I have tried that on several occasions to no success. I’ve probably sent 15 PM’s to great/good posters on that other forum (before I was shown the door). There were about 3 days that showed promise (when it was down) but that didn’t last.

Well, I was right on point in that thread. :p

For me, now that the last vestiges of the Snyder Era have been swept away, I feel a bit like Frodo after casting the ring into Mount Doom.

It's over. It's done. Middle Earth has been saved. But I don't know what that means for me.

Ron is a stand up guy. But being in charge of basically the entire operations was way too much for him to handle especially after Covid hit then he gets Cancer and then his moms death. By the end he was more then spent from the last 4 years

Rivera is a slightly below average coach who benefited off a strong roster put together by someone else, and managed to parlay a solitary SB appearance and a no-nonsense persona into a career that lasted far longer than it deserved. He is Jeff Fisher without the moustache. Vrabel, for a contrasting example, is a good coach who was screwed by an incompetent GM (see AJ Brown trade).
You don't give a guy who has only had 3 winning seasons in 10 years as a coach even more responsibilities. But then again, only an idiot would put the guy in charge of the Niners collapse as head of personnel, and then replace him with the only GM with an even worse track record who destroyed the Bucs.
Rivera as a person deserved better than all the drama the franchise put him through, but the team and its fans deserved a much better coach.

Remember at the time Ron Rivera was being considered in 2020, the team had reached out to Urban Meyer and he had discussions with the organization, although nothing substantive came out of it.

After what Meyer did in Jacksonville, we actually could have done worse than Rivera.
