We're on the cusp of blowing it all up, sending Ron and Company on their way, and beginning a new era.

Rivera did not make all of our wildest dreams come true.

Rivera did not make all of our wildest dreams come true.
At first he delivered some steadiness. From there grew hope. But he could never build on success. A top ten defense found itself bottom ten the next year. A disciplined team found itself penalty plagued. A great win against a good team was followed by let down games. Ulitimately, Rivera's history here is best described as one step forward, two steps back.

It's hard not to fault him. I do think he was hamstrung by Snyder and Snyder's budget, but he was the coach and defacto GM. He put together the front office he wanted and the coaching staff he wanted. He let good people get away. He didn't replace them with better people. So much of what he did was colored by laziness. Even finding Jamison Crowder as a punt returner hardly felt like they were turning over every stone to find someone. More importantly, like the line, linebackers, and return game failed not because of injury but because they were never addressed.

We knew punt and kickoff returns would be a weakness going into 2023 because we were bad at it the two years previous. So, what do they do? They neither draft nor sign anyone to upgrade that role. The most exciting prospect was a UDFA prospect. It's like they thought we would be better by magic. I will say they tried to address the o-line. They signed Willie, they signed Gates, they tried Charles and Paul. So, they did try. They were just wrong. In many ways, that's preferable then their negligence of the return game and of our weakness at linebacker.

It's funny. I've heard chatter about how linebackers are less important these days, but when you turn on a 49ers game or if you watched yesteday's games, everyone kept bragging and focusing on how good their linebackers were. And amazingly, the flat wasn't always open. The running backs couldn't always gain the edge. So, I say the narrative that linebacker can be ignored is stupid.

And that's the problem. They ignored what they knew were weaknesses. They ignored what they said were weaknesses. And they weren't good enough schemers to get away with it.

Rivera (rightfully so) likely had A TON of inner turmoil over the last 4 years within his personal life. To be honest, I can't even blame him if he 'lost his fastball' after Cancer, let alone the other things like losing his mom. Add to that, the nonsense he had to deal with inside the building, including a forced name change, an ownership change (his second in 10 years btw), a disgruntled and impatient fanbase, and having a guy like Jason Wright take every opportunity to endear himself to the fans, and just muff the punt every time.

That all said, he was the guy. He was the big dog in a coach centric system, so it all is going to pass through him. He literally has a career record of 102-102-2 right now. He's had 3 winning seasons in 13 years as a HC, and none of them were here.... It all lined up for a less than successful process, and the results clearly show that.

Today feels like the last day you are in the hospital after a serious illness and have been cleared by the doctor to resume your life as you once knew it ;)

Note to Josh Harris: besides all of the personnel decisions and business operations changes that need to be made, can we spend perhaps 30 minutes coming up with a better name for this team and a revamped logo and uniform?

From the stenciled 'W' on the side of the helmet to those lousy black and gold alternate jerseys/pants that look like they were designed by Walmart, Washington has without a doubt one of the 4-5 worst looks in the NFL.

If you absolutely have to keep the name then please come up with a logo for the Washington Commanders not just a faceless 'W'.

I might suggest the insignia for the Army's military district of Washington which features the Washington Monument with a sword and red, white and blue background.

I don’t mind the W logo but I hate the uniforms, the crayon colors, and those damned yoga pants. Plus, I would love a name I could use other than Washington when referring to the team. I have not ever used the C word in spoken or written conversation.
