Assuming it actually is Commanders ... shouldn't be a surprise it was so obviously leaked ahead of time. Pretty standard PR to get a story you know is going to generate headlines out there ahead of time to give people time to get used to it and allow at least some of the hyperventilating and instant mockery out of the way.

Still hoping the actual look of the logo/uniforms will be a little better than what we've seen so far. The name is meh enough--a great look would help.
 
I distinctly remember them saying we are keeping the burgundy and gold. That would outright get rid of the top right one, and lessen the chances of a black uniform outside of color rush
 
You give them too much credit. They forgot to blur out the logo on some photos. Doubt seriously it was the grand plan - we just can't do anything without dicking it up, lol...
 
I disagree. RIch Eisen said weeks ago on his national show he was "hearing Commanders." Joey "Empty Head, Motor Mouth" Theismann? If HE got it ahead of time I don't think it was an accident.

Not saying the team gets "credit" for leaking, just saying it's pretty SOP.
 
I still go back to what Boone said previously: You spent two years on this and this was the best you could come up with?

You could've given that assignment to fifth graders and they could've come up with better......
 
This I agree with. Certainly as to the supposed logo/unis that are circulating out there now ... bleh.
 
I guess my question would be, what does it say about this front office and PR team if they leaked 'Commanders' to gauge response, it was heavily and decidedly panned with very little support, and you went with it anyway?

It says 'nothing has changed'. They don't give one rat's ass what the remains of the fanbase thinks or wants.

I'm not going to give them any benefit of the doubt, sorry. Just where I'm at.
 
Today is the last day I will rail on them over the name though. It's dumb and unimaginative and I can't believe it's the best they could do. But there's no sense howling at the moon or pissing into the wind (wolves reference intentional) indefinitely.
 
They wouldn't have leaked it to gauge response--by that point in the process it they already had the patents, copyrights, etc., done. Leaking at that point wouldn't be a trial balloon but a pressure valve.

Sort of reinforces my point though - they knew it was going to get a bad response and were trying to mitigate it. Why stubbornly go forward with something you know will be unpopular (particularly to a fanbase hanging on by a thread)? You took 2 years - if you sense you're heading for another portapotty photo op disaster, do something about it. Instead, they stubbornly stick to the plan because it's too much trouble to get it right (or they are incapable of getting it right). Again, my last day of railing on it. It's done.
 
Well, as I suggested on the podcast, this was kind of a no-win situation for the franchise. Any name not "Redskins" was going to displease a whole lot of people. Not going to go through all the names I preferred over what it looks like we're getting in two minutes again. Just saying it makes sense to me that if it's Commanders after all, they leaked it to try to get some of the first wave of hate out of the way.

True Mark - but there were many name options more popular and with more support than Commanders. How hard is it just not to overthink it? Apparently, impossibly hard.

No watching the Today show, but say the name announcement. Don't hate the name per se, especially if it was starting from scratch. Not sure how it relates to the history of the team though.
