The problem is, to run read option as any significant proportion of your offense, you have to have, not just an athletic QB, but one with a sense of self-preservation and one who can make great near-instant decisions consistently. I love the reckless Griffin we saw in 2012, but that guy can't survive that style of play. I also think the injuries have damaged his psyche - he frequently appears frozen looking unsure what to do. I think he's stuck knowing what his gifts and instincts say to do, but fearing injury (rightfully so) if he follows his instincts. And I have not seen a ton of evidence he can be a starter using another style of play.
I hope he turns a corner this season. But what I think we'll see is more struggles, more challenges staying healthy, and the Redskins moving on - and that's assuming they aren't already trying to work a deal to unload him.
