PFT: Donovan McNabb is headed to the Washington Redskins

He's completed less than 60% of his passes and has more INT than TD's

...and is on pace to throw for more yards than any QB in Redskins history, with very few weapons and a shaky OL.

All I'm saying is, I'd like to see what McNabby can do in DC with a bonafide #1 & a solid OL.

Well, considering he's on pace to throw for 4,157 yards, which would be a career mark for him by almost 250 yards, I'd say its not THAT bad.

McNabb is currently 7th in passing yards in the league this year, 27th in completion percentage, 25th in qb rating.

Imagine if he had even average accuracy for the position.

While blasting him for his accuracy, you also have to blast his receivers for dropping passes this season. I've seen more this year than in any previous season I can remember.

And don't give me any crap about an "uncatchable ball," because if it hits your hands, you should friggin' catch it.

My problem with his accuracy has little to do with dropped balls, although less drops would of course increase his completion percentage. Also, from memory, Jason suffered from just as many last year as Donovan this year imo.

My problem with his accuracy is this: I am constantly surprised at this lack of passing skills. He fails to regularly deliver the ball to receivers in stride, failing to put them in the best position to suceed after the catch. Especially in the short to medium throws. High, low, too hard, behind them, etc.

A true #1 would be nice but wouldn't change that problem. Maybe finding receivers from Cirque de Solei, instead of the NCAA, would.

where do you fall on the end-zone pass to Davis last Sunday? Donovan passed to wrong shoulder or Davis turned the wrong way?

I haven't broken down the game film yet, but I don't specifically blame Donovan for that one.

lol @ the if it touches your hands its your fault if its a drop. any good QB isnt gonna rocket a hundred mile an hour fastball at your hands from 10 yards away, Ive seen at least 6 drops by cooley that were completely on Mcnabb not showing any touch at all. also if you throw the ball even slightly behind a guy or too high and hes well covered it becomes very difficult to catch. how many times have we seen him throw the ball late and let the db recover? He has never been an accurate passer or a smart one. His receivers get the blame a lot but I think he was at least as big a part of the issue as they were.

I am willing to give him some slack because the Oline has been brutal but he was bad early on with Portis helping a lot in the blocking game.

thats funny..I remember Elway's receivers having to practice with a special throwing machine because he threw it so hard.

Favre's receivers used to show off their mangled hands - he BROKE their FINGERS throwing so hard.

Yes. If you can get your hands on it, you should catch the ball. That goes for all levels of football, but *especially* the NFL level. Its a pretty common mantra in football, I'm surprised someone of your skill level and vast experience has never heard it.

On slants and anything mid range you gotta put some heat on it, but on some passes you need touch. Mcnabb has been brutal on seams, screens, short outs pretty much anything where he cant just rocket it in there.

One thing both favre and elway did pretty well was throw short screens with touch on them. Levens made a living catching screens from favre and so did Bobby humphrey from Elway.

Edit: For the record, I agree with your assertion that McNabb throws a rocket on a 5 yard dump off showing no touch on the ball. I have seen it all season long, but there have been a lot of drops by the receivers that were not a result of rocket passes 5-8 yards down the field.

One of the things I was most frustrated last year was with the LACK of fade routes in the red zone. We barely ran any.

I'm not saying McNabb isn't partially to blame for some of the drops, and he's never been an especially accurate passer. However I also agree with Elephant, in that a lot of the drops (in fact most of the drops) have not come on fade routes or 5-8 yard routes.
