You're quite welcome Hog, I do this quite often for the very reasons you mention-my own emotional response to something like this can distort the actual factors involved in an analysis so I go to other teams fan forums where the posters aren't as close to the situation and can sometimes give me a perspective I hadn't thought of. One thing I'll be doing while I dig around is try to find posts by fans of teams with as little interest as possible in this trade-maybe the Saints, Colts and maybe a couple more AFC teams who aren't QB shopping. I'll let you guys know what kind of vibes I'm getting out there.

Asking for more action, yeah, I was too. I guess we got some. :yikes:

You know I was thinking this morning that my being a Redskin fan now has little to do with whether they win at all and is mainly about the friends that I watch the games with at the sports bar as well as my internet friends.

Yeah, they have a plan but will it work? We saw the result when Norv tried to recreate the triplets in DC. Sometimes coaches have success with a particular combination of players and then spend the rest of their career trying in vain to recreate that magic. Maybe Shanny believes that McNabb Is Elway and that he can make any running back successful with “his system.” But in the end let’s not forget that for the last 3 years this guy was a .500 coach at Denver. Maybe he will be successful here and maybe not.

But in any case, I’m not going to get to worked up about it. In the end, I will still go see the games and the beer (good), food (crappy) and friends (really good) at the sports bar will still be the same.

I am allowing myself the luxury of projecting a little bit, so ...I believe our starting LT is going to be named Okung, our LG Dockery, our C Rabach, our RG Williams and our RT _________.

Heyer, to me, is a RT backup at best, and hope that is the one position at which we have a glaring need to fill in the next four months.

Then you and I are in the same place except that I am calling the LT spot Okung/Bulaga at the moment as I am not completely unconvinced that Detroit wants Okung.

It is that RT spot that has me worried. Heyer isn't it unless these coaches can get something out of him that Buges couldn't. I don't think Williams can play out there anymore and I don't see Hicks has more than a good backup swingman.

In all honesty, before yesterday I was hoping the team was going to go LT in the first round and RT in the second.

Im honestly still hoping for something along those lines. I would be happy if we could trade back a couple of spots and pick up either a 2nd or a 3rd round pick and just got OTs.
 
I have thought of this many times during the day today.

I may eat these words, so I will temper them somewhat.

I really do not like the trade, but I will go into this season with an open mind and the hope of success.

Dear lord.......I just hope for McNabb's success.

I feel dirty.
 
I can't see this trade bearing the immediate fruit that some believe is out there--

We're not, counter to what John Clayton (no disrespect intended) believes, immediately in the playoff hunt and/or going to win the division just by making this change behind center

As many in this thread have stated, the OL is a major, major question mark. Taking that as granted, while this team has, borrowing a line from my main team-player DeAngelo Hall, "dropped the dead weight", we are anything but proven.

The unit--if it can be called that--remaining from last year is making a fundamental transition on defense from the 4-3 to the 3-4 and is full of unknowns from the top of the roster (here's looking at you Bidwell at 0) to the bottom (does Andre Carter, at 99, still have it and/or was last year an illusion?).

Even the man I believe is our most "proven" asset in Brian Orakpo has a one-year track record.

Our best linebacker in London Fletcher is undersized for the 3-4.

So what do we have left that's proven? A waning Portis, Rabach, L Johnson, Moss(?)--

And we're adding to the mix a 34 year old quarterback who has the rare distinction (or wait a second, really, not so rare, I'm looking at you Todd Collins and Mark Brunell) of playing behind an offensive line that he's only slightly older than--

The jury may be out pending the draft, OTAs, camp, etc. -- but on its face, it doesn't strike me that we're all of the sudden a 10 win team.

Then again, no single addition on this team has yet had that effect and I'm not sure that there's anyone out there that will.

Time will tell.
 
I guess the thing that has wigged me out about this whole trade is that I was under the apparently misguided assumption that we would once again build through the draft, that our days of the splashy, headline grabbing free agents were over.

But when you step back and take off the maroon and black glasses, it was a good trade. We got him for cheap. I just can't help but wonder if we couldn't have found our right tackle with that second rounder.

And I still contend that McNabb is a choke artist, and I seriously doubt he'll lead us to the promised land.

Even if he does somehow, he'll throw it in the dirt on third and eight

If what we're talking about here is whether or not as a matter of general principle you would trade a potential 2nd round rookie right tackle for an established Pro Bowl QB with anywhere from 2-5 years of possible high-level play left ... on a team that hasn't had legitimate big time quarterbacking in a generation and hasn't won anything in that time ... dunno about anyone else but I'm making that trade and looking over my shoulder for Alan Funt.*

Plus, when Campbell gets traded (which I am assuming he will) and the Redskins get a 3rd or even potentially that 2nd back, I suspect they'll use it on a big ugly. If for no other reason than to keep Sarge's head from exploding. Which would benefit us all. :)



* That's for you youngsters to Google.
 
Wow. Henry looking more prescient with his Brunell/McNabb comparison. McNabb hasn't been that bad, but still...

So now we get Okung, which I'm definately happy about going OL over QB and maybe pick up Tebow somewhere doewn the line since they seem to like him, although I'd still like more linemen.

Maybe in a couple of years I'll put my name back on the list. In the meantime I'll spend that $1500 on the big screen

McNabb has been considerably better than Brunell. Unfortunately, the team around him is considerably worse, and at the end of the day we get the same results. A bad team with an old QB and fewer draft picks.

I wish I was eating crow now. I really do.

Why is it fans can see this stuff but people that get paid millions can't?
