Our Run game....whats really going on.

Brob as ive heard some analyst say is a great power runner and early in the year we were running more power running and later we started doing more zone block running, which BRob is not great at. Our other backs are better at Zone Blocking running game.
 
I found the Take Command podcast from Tues. with Hoffman/Paulsen pretty illuminating. They addressed the issues with both the run game and run D.

Detroit's defense has a ton of injuries. They couldn't stop anything that we were doing.

Everybody has written Brian Robinson off. Pre-draft, you all wanted to take a running back in round one. This fan base has 110 percent written off Brian Robinson Jr. You know what I say to that? You're a bunch of idiots. You know what we needed to do? We needed to do what the hell we did, and that's improve this offensive line.

Peters didn't think there was enough value to unseat Robinson from his No. 1 spot on the running back depth chart. But if he cannot raise performance levels next season, that won't be the case in 2026.

I've never read anyone really slamming Robinson. Many (like myself) just feel Washington needs an upgrade at RB.

Robinson is an ok RB. He usually won't hurt you, but he's not explosive, doesn't see holes very well, and it seems in big games/moments, Robinson comes up small.

He doesn't scare defenses. Washington, I feel, needs someone who does so defenses can't mostly key on Jayden Daniels.

I don't know, sometimes the holes just weren't there, especially in the second half of the season. Some examples are in the first couple of pages in this thread. As soon as he got the ball, an OL is being pushed back into him.That seemed to happen more and more as the season wore on. Not saying it was all the OL fault.
I am interested to see how he looks this year, with what should be improved OL play. This is certainly a make or break year for him.

I mean... they didn't have a lot of picks, so I wouldn't read much into them not drafting RB sooner... so of course they want him to be the guy, but if you gave them truth serum, how many would say that they actually believe that he's the guy?
 
I think B-Rob is basically another Alfred Morris, with the right O-line and scheme he can be productive, but he doesn't have the attributes of a special RB. That doesn't mean that he won't end up with better statistics this season if the O-line is improved and other elements of the offense help open things up for the running game, but I am holding firm on the opinion that until I see otherwise, if B-Rob is your #1 RB you need a very capable compliment at the #2 and I think relying on Eckler at this stage of his career is asking a lot.

I don't know enough about the RB they drafted to have an opinion on when/where he can fit into the running game right out of the gate but I will say I have continued to like what I've seen from C-Rod every time he gets a chance. He might also be another example of a player who isn't spectacular at any single thing a RB1 should be able to do, but he does seem to have the upperhand on field vision over B-Rob.
 
The honest truth is that Brian Robinson is a bottom third of the league starter, in part because he has to be 100% to be effective and almost no one in the NFL goes through a 17 game season without getting dinged up.

As for the other rushers there is nothing special about McNichols or Rodriguez. They are standard between the tackles backup runners who can come in and help in a pinch but don't have the explosiveness or versatility to become regular contributors.

We know what Ekeler can do and hopefully adding Lane and considering others for the return duties will keep him upright in 2025.

Croskey-Merritt intrigues me because he is the antithesis of all the other backs on the team. He has a true change of pace skill set.

As a #7 round pick, one can only hope he has the same shock to his play that Pacheco brought to the Chiefs several years ago.
 
I think Robinson is mediocre to below average in pretty much every category. He's not awful, but he's a JAG. Mediocre speed, below average vision, mediocre agility, below average burst. He's a guy who will get you some yards as long as you put a top notch OL in front of him. Otherwise, he's not going to do a whole lot and he's certainly not going to scare anyone.

The only reason our running game was even remotely respected last season, and the reason that teams didn't just constantly drop a bunch of guys into coverage, was because of Daniels. Without the threat of Daniels I think Robinson would have looked even worse last year. Having him as our #1 back again is concerning. (Though let's be honest, he's not our #1 back, JD is).
 
Looking at my crystal ball for the upcoming season, I see BRob doing well the first half of the season and then Croskey-Merritt taking over for the second half. My crystal ball has no clue on how well Croskey-Merritt will perform other than he'll hold his own.
